  1. Still on a high after watching a special night at Celtic Park.

Second word of the day, if I can…

    Pundit (n.)

“learned Hindu,” especially one versed in Sanskrit lore, from Hindi payndit “a learned man, master, teacher,” from Sanskrit payndita-s “a learned man, scholar,”

In it’s debatable whether our version(s) of the ancient word ‘payndit’ Andy Walker, Neil McCann, DJ etc have reached what Sanskrit lore had in mind in terms of ‘a learned man.’ Imo:)

  2. I liked this segment from Tom English`s article:

” We’ve seen Celtic do that to teams this season – to Kilmarnock and Motherwell and Rangers, easy prey on the domestic front.”

    Interesting things,definitions and synonyms.

It isn’t too many steps from pundit to bandit, then snaphance.

The latter is most apt for them.

  4. As I suggested previously, if we keep them to three and play well, everyone (more or less) will be happy.

Now scoring three ourselves makes “happy” not up to the job.

That was a quite magnificent performance by all of those inside CP, worthy of a ten year run in a West End theatre.

It’s good to be competing at this level and to have another great memory to add to our history.

I hear what you’re saying. But I don’t entirely agree. I want some bullies in my team. To win the physical victory against their opponent. Skill and pace help too!

Morning Bhoys great to be a hoops fan this morning the Bhoys did us proud last night. We will have many hard games yet in this section and yet we should believe we can finish third in the group.I think the job Brendan is doing is amazing long may it continue.H.H.

  7. My ears are still ringing and thumping from last night. That standing sections is immense on CL nights.

    My bhoy loved it.

Have to say after the succession of £1.5 m signings that didn’t cut the mustard such as Scepovic and Balde and people saying we needed to spend £5-6 milliion on a stiker we have found a gem at £500k.

I don’t think there was any failures alst night but we need to work on Rogic’s stamina. He was brilliant for 40 mins and then visibly faded.

All the players were brilliant but the supporters were magnificent.

Thought Toure and Sviatchneko put in a great effort. Brown was immense and Sinclair and Dembele superb.

Need to refocus now as our minds need to be on Dundee.

    Come into the light!

Even über-mineshafters are allowed to be happyclappers now and again,Kev. Remember,we all started out as happyclappers, otherwise we wouldn’t have stuck around long enough to have our hearts hardened!!

If you are so minded, please come along to The Blaine Valley at lunchtime on Saturday for the match. Nice quiet wee place, does a lovely coffee too. You’ll love it. I’ll tell you yer a halfwit, you can practice your insults too. In a nice way,of course. It’ll be fun.

  9. Got up yesterday morning a wee man 69 years of age. Got up this morning to discover I’m really only 39 and my height has gone from 5ft 7 to 6ft 7, proof if ever needed that following Celtic is really magical.

    That wee 7yo?

Sure as hell, that’s a memory for life.

You’ve got them from that age,so do I. It’s good to know that Celtic are still in that business, innit?

  11. Jamesgang

Find another verb/ adjective and Im not being PC, just not a description I would not be using, there is more to his game than just being physically strong and able to look after himself, you are correct football demands that you impose yourself on the game and win your individual contest with your opponent , the more of these players we have the more likely we will be successful.

  12. Best thing about last night for me was the bravery to play the way we did.

Our best results in the CL, with the notable exception of Juventus, have come when we’ve played defensively- man united, Barca for example.

I feared for us when i saw the shape we were playing. But that says more about how we have become accustomed to the accepted wisdom of modern football – that you have to concede possession and defend like hell when faced with better teams.

I’m embarrassed by the fear I have had. And I’m glad I’ve been shown up.

Brendan Rodgers is as gallus as they come. What a performance. What a game.

And finally, before I return to my exile from CQN (self imposed and much needed) I should say that it’s quite possible that Barca or city will beat us soundly again. We have nothing to lose in that respect. A very good German team stands between us and the UEFA cup. That’s where we will need to be at our very best.

I always love being a Celtic supporter but some days I love it more than others. This is one of those days!!

Big focus on Saturday now. Continue sending out the message to Scotland that we are going to sweep them all aside. Warbo might have convinced himself that sticking to his plan of attack minded football could beat us in the semi. I hope so. I don’t care what anyone says about them not losing as easily this time – only Celtic can stop Celtic from beating every team in Scotland handsomely. The gulf between Sinclair, toure, dembele, tierney, brown and rogic and the EPL all stars was shown not to be as wide as thought last night. Rodgers and Pep had a good tactical battle anc our man came out on top with a weaker hand. However hill, Halliday, waghorn and garner as compared to the hooped heroes and the contrast between the 52 year old rookie and oor brendy? You’d need google maps to measure that gulf.

    My Autumn jinx continues unabated.

In the pub last night, half an hour in,I said that we were in a mini-league,the two BM games were crucial.

Win the head-to-head,European football after Christmas.

Guy next to me checked his phone and told me BM had just gone one up. And I was schtuum…

  14. Brilliant performance.

Many mentioning Dembele, Rogic, Tierney et al and how there value has went “through the roof” (wonder why that thought association always makes me think of Ipox). I’m a realist but… I would rather they were on figures on the park giving their all for the hoops than a figures on the credit side of our balance sheet.

Well done Brendan and the Bhoys. Reputation certainly on the way back.

In football parlance,a bully is a compliment. Strange, and I get your point.

I’m happy to have a bully up front. I would never be happy with a thug anywhere in our team though.

  16. Their obviously..

  17. DESSYBHOY

Brendan Rodgers said he bullied their back 4 (which he did) but then immediately said there is far more to his game than that (and there is).

It’s not a negative, it’s a positive; a euphemism for physically imposing yourself on a game and besting your opponent with your physical strength. Moussa Dembele did that last night to great effect.

  18. When Dembele chased the Man City player in left back territory, and slide tackled him with about 8 minutes to go, summed up the team effort, the standing ovation he got was emotional.

  19. VFR800A8

Yes I heard Brendan saying that, just explain how the lad plays, and he does look physically very strong.Need to go.

  20. What a game last night! Fabulous evening, stadium was rocking and a terrific performance by the Hoops! Credibility restored for us and for Scottish Football.

Back to back games against the Germans will decide whether we have European football after Christmas, play like that and we have a great chance!

Off to Arran for the weekend shortly, so will miss the hoot, have a great time all that will attend!

While always proud to be a Celtic fan , this morning made my heart beat again and we showed Europe again that Celtic park is a fortress

During the heated driveway productions of the last 4 years , we saw our team as a bunch of projects

We were told those days are gone , while some of us just said a little bit of quality is all we need

To see Sinclair and dembele chase the man city goalie was a joy to watch

To see Toure play the way he did was a joy to watch. Quality that could not have been brought to Celtic park under the heated driveway production

For the avoidance of doubt , this morning was not a Paul 67 / heated driveway production

    Onward and upwards

  22. Bumped into a few guys this morning who were at the game. They are all hoarse and limping – you’d think they’d played in the game rather than just watched it! :-)))

Extremely enjoyable game and an excellent result. Fantastic effort and performance all round.

    Bring on Dundee!!

  23. Mild Colonial Bhoy on

I was at Celtic’s first ever European game (V Valencia) – and from then until i left Scotland in 1983 i never missed a European match. There were some great nights but for overall atmosphere/crowd involvement i don’t think anything equals last night. Even watching 12000 miles away you could feel it. Maybe a cliche but it really was 12th man stuff. The noise at the start got everyone going and i am sure helped get us that first goal. And it was non stop. In that period when we were beginning to tire after their 3rd goal that rendition of “Grace” seemed to steady the ship and just before the end when the players were almost out on their feet to see the stands bouncing and belting out “Let the People Sing” was inspirational.

Aye. My 50th season and feeling nostalgic – I am sure my wee sister and I were just as excited as that wee girl was. And we still go. In 50 years I will be gone from here but yon wee ghirl will still be going and talking about the Man City game

    Jimbo67

  25. Imagine not being a Celtic fan – must be rubbish.

I thought Kolo Toure was unbelievable last night. Sounds funny given we conceded 3 goals but still.

Last night reminded me a little of Celtic’s swashbuckling display against Barca in the last 16 when we lost 3-2 at CP, except this time we got a result and the attacking play was even more scintillating.

  26. Brown shipped a very heavy deliberate foul tackle in the closing minutes last night and was noticeably limping as he left the field. Every other starter last night emptied the tank and we must have a very physically & mentally drained team this morning as we prepare for an early kick off Saturday game.

So far Brendan has to a large extent avoided “resting” players and has gone with his strongest available eleven regardless.

We have a strong squad, with the likes of Gamboa, Izzy, Jozo & Boyata at the back, plus Henderson, McGregor & Christie in midfield. Brendan will make the call and nobody will question his judgement. The only positive is that Saturday will be our last game for a fortnight. I normally hate International breaks but this time, I’ll be glad to see the likes of Brooney & Kolo get a bit of a rest.

Our next game is always the most important one but the 2 week gap after Saturday, makes it a must win ..

Said to my wee Bhoy last night – and often – always try to leave your opponent wishing he wasn’t playing against you.

No time, no space, physicality, out paced, out muscled, out fought.

That’s what the Bhoy was doing and I loved it!

  30. Outstanding display of total football from both teams last night, thoroughly enjoyed my evening and a few pints after with my friends, every Celtic fan to a man, every Celtic player to a man done they’re bit, no negatives ( although the usual suspects still nit picking) from last nights display, another learning experience that will only better this Celtic team, to the SMSM and the English, how daft do you all look now (and we know you come in here ) to disrespect your opponents and Scotlands champions was your downfall, the romans built a wall ages and ages ago they got it, you don’t come up here swinging your d..ks and think your going to walk all over us, many have tried and like you failed, your pompous arrogance fallows you around like a bad smell, the city fans at last nights game where dull and to be very honest need lessons on away support excitement, no doubt they will get a right dose of that and how it’s done when Celtic play they’re away game in Manchester, and win, lose, or draw, we will leave your city the way we found it, please accept my apologies for the last team from Glasgow that visited you City and trashed the place, and I hope you enjoyed your Celtic Park experience (it’s not parkhead that’s a media thing)

Andrew smithers’ piece in the Scotsman just about sums them up…..disgusting people. To say they are competent in journalism is akin to Dwayne Doberman being touted as the face of beauty.Takes me back when the doctor told an excited expectant mother’Its a baby boy Mrs.Hitler’.Six words the world would preferred not to remember.andrew smithers is not a journalist ……six words we should not forget.A brilliant night at Celtic Park and the media fail to give wholesome praise to a Celtic side who surely earned some recognition sums the shower up for what they are.
