See above. We need to break this notion that just being at Celtic entitles you to a wage of £x/week.

Even at their best, some of our players aren’t better than Molde’s so why should we be spending so much more than them on wages.

I found a forum post from 2011 that showed Molde’s top players were on £5k/week. Let’s say that’s risen a wee bit in the last 4 years to £6k/week. I’ve seen nothing from any of our top players vs there’s that suggests they should be on anything beyond £10k. Maybe £15k at a push.

Agreed – some demand parity with certain others just to sign in the first place. Larsson paid more in tax than McNamar was getting basic. At least they produced the goods.

What you get for your money is not the same now but the same principle applies, the clubs with bigger budgets will win more often than not.

Where they don’t there are other problems, starting with the most important man at the club – the manager. When a manager allows himself to be a yes man he is immediately undermined and it can’t work.

  2. Although I do think Ronny Deila is a complete dud as manager of Celtic, the sad truth is that the best possible manager Celtic could obtain would tear his/her hair trying to get Kris Commons to track back and do a defensive shift. No matter how important the game is, there are players at Celtic unwilling to put in the level of endeavour required for modern football. This is just as applicable to many players, coaches and fans in Scotland. The number of times people on here want a player to “…put their foot on the ball…”, I’m afraid such thinking is at least 25 years out of date. Today, that means being pressured or tackled within 2 seconds of receiving the ball. Players these days need to think and act much quicker than before, if they can’t the players aren’t good enough and if they continue to play and make the same mistakes, its the managers fault for not seeing or fixing.

The difference is this is Ronnys second Europa campaign and there are no signs of progress.

  4. Nyebevan and HT sorry not to respond to your posts from earlier this morning – got cut off. HT no will not be going to Dingwall with the mad KO time would entail a 2 night stay over in Dingwall/Inverness and the wounds are too fresh for that. If you are up enjoy. H H Hebcelt
