  1. I have never seen a harder hit penalty kick being saved by a goalkeeper’s hands.

And the ball was closer to the goal than it should have been when it was taken.

And it was going in, just inside the post.

And it was 0-0 at the time with not long left.

And it ensures we go into a wee break in good cheer.

    Some save big man.

    HH.

  2. So BBC Reporting Scotland shows new clu bs goals on main Scottish news, ccan’t even squeeze in one Celtic goal or save by FF….should I be surprised…erm…no.

McLean also managed to contrive to book 4 Celts; 4 fouls were deemed to have been committed by the Champions in the entire 90 minutes.

On the other hand he neglected to book Hamill for entering the field of play without permission following a treatment break. In the same vein he ignored Lasley catching the ball, having allowed Motherwell an advantage, following a foul.

“Undisclosed payments investigation unaffected by death of former Rangers director Adam”

says Michael Grant in the Herald today.

    Why on earth would it?

What a strange thing to write?

    Insensitive. And, strange.

  5. 4 bookings with 4 fouls?

That must be some sort of world record, no?

That’s brilliant news and now I can look forward to hearing future radio broadcast of Celtic matches. I used to get the games badly on medium wave and that is no longer the case – nothing. Glad you agree about BBC radio Scotland situation is indeed a strange one. Even the most local rural stations are available on the web.

  7. What a hurting Hun ref Steve McLean was today. His brother was at ibrox as a player and he was mostly there as a fan. He is another of the Dallas/Fleming fastracks with no ability like Euan Norris.

As was stated earlier Celtic had 4 fouls and 4 bookings. The days of Huns with whistles being in charge of Celtic games should be over. As long as John Fleming is selecting refs who reward dives with penalties then the game is corrupt. Celtic need to get out of this league.

Despite McLean Celtic still got the three points and kept 11 players on the park. What’s your next move hurting Flemimg……I hope your 2013 is even worse than 2012 .

Happy New Year to All !

  8. Ref was awful, and while we started really well (esp Sammi), we lost our way and it took a very poor penalty decision and shocking bookings to galvanise us, which has happened several times already this season. We seem to need some sense of injustice before we show any urgency and up the tempo. Agree with earlier comment that when Forrest not playing we rely solely on Commons for guile as our central midfield is much more graft than craft.

Special mention for Big Sammi. He takes real abuse from some fans – seems some folk only see his mistakes and not others eg Efe’s shocker of a pass to Victor which led directly to the penalty raised hardly a murmur around me, yet when Sammi ran half the park and his cross hit a defender and went out for a corner, folk around me gave him dogs abuse. Fair play to the big man, he always shows for the ball and is one of our most potent players….although that said, he always has the capacity to go from the sublime to the ridiculous in a singke movement! That said, frankly, I think some fans are very quick to turn on him. It reminds me of some fans’ treatment of McGeady – whipping boy!

    Rant over.

Did make me smile when heard Chicko interviewing the Mullet after the game tho!

  9. Back a wee while from the game and letting the events of today settle down in my head. Some thoughts I have:

Started with a real purpose and Sammi was in the mood for roasting that right back – which he did on several occasions. Even when they went to double up on him he had the beating of both of them. With a bit of luck and better finishing we could have been 3-0 after the first 15-20 minutes.

I liked Charlie in midfield and I thought him, Vic and Beram were trying to win the battle the scrappy way, which is how McCall tried to play – battle in the midfield and break.

I thought the two fullbacks were pretty anonymous today apart from Izzy who came to life after the penalty save. Efe was ok but still tries to take too many touches and fool his opponent too often. Kelvin had a great game today as epitomised by his cruncher against their right winger after Izzy got skinned. What a crack and I didn’t think he was going to be able to play on after that.

The penalty was a clear dive and then the diver dives again a couple of minutes later. 2nd yellow? If I was the ref, then yes. El Gran Muralla saves the bacon yet again with a save from a pen not even spotted right.

Charlie was terribly unlucky with his yellow card but Beram was late and it was dangerous – not saying the intent was there as I think it was accidental but could have been bad. Vic and Fraser’s bookings were deplorable.

Commons had a tough time of it today. I can only mind him hitting the byline once and he seemed to drift from middle to the right and then the hole with not too much joy. I think if we set up this way it leaves us 9/10 times for the ball to go down the left to Sammi and we become too predictable. But on a day like today when his touch was dynamite and he looks hungry he is our playmaker.

All in all a great 3 points. Hopefully we can play young Forrest or Dylan on the right side to give us a bit more balance in the future.

  10. Joe Filippis Haircut on

We can blame the referee for todays struggle to put Motherwell away but its more than that the current Celtic team struggle to sparkle and make hard work of so many games.I think it comes down to our group of players they are at times so timid they constantly pass the ball backwards I dont know if it is the coaching that makes them so cautious or we dont have enough creative players but something is missing as a supporter I dont know what it is but we should be doing better against Scottish teams when you take into account the budget we work on compared to other clubs and the quality of the players we have.I hope the winter break will refresh the players and we will return with a new confidence. Also a Happy new year to everyone on CQN and all Celtic supporters throughout the world.H.H.
