I’m never one to offer a knee jerk reaction, but this current team is simply not good enough by any stretch of the imagination. They are a very poor imitation of the Celtic I grew up watching. Perhaps indicative of current times but they will struggle to win the SPL this season unless they sort themselves out good time.

On the subject of the Green brigade may I just say, and expect pelters for saying it, but I remember in my day we had 80,000 members of the Green brigade. What the hell has happened to the Celtic support these days. For Christ’s sake get behind the team, all of you and perhaps we may improve. Are the Green brigade fans the only ones who support our team. Have a word Celtic fans, have a word!!

  2. Good to see Ashley’s Toon Army are bottom of the EPL.

He obviously specializes in second class outfits. XXL usually.

    Evening Exiled.

We will win the league. I predict by 10 points minimum. My charity bet remains on offer.

    Offski.

Our club is being fleeced by charlatans and mis-run by incompetents and I’m not far from the stage where I wouldn’t care that much if we didn’t retain our title. Indeed it could be argued that it would be a massive boost for the domestic game if we didn’t. Given the referendum result in Dundee, I wouldn’t be too sad if the Arabs won the league.

  4. I am always one to give a new manager and a new team time to bed in. In Ronny Deila’s case there was the additional element thathe talked a good game and the teams he was trying to emulate had more attractive and entertaining styles of football.

I feared that he was asking too much of our players in attempting to impose the style straightaway and he seems to have recognised that himself in what he said about evolving rather than revolutionising a style. Nevertheless, I remained concerned that all we managed was 15 minutes of high intensity followed by 75 minutes of peching and puffing. And the European results were disastrous. Still, it looked great when applied to United so we attempted to remain patient.

I was happy that some signs of compromising on purity had been evident e.g. Efe being told to “punt and get rid”, after he had made a disastrous pass back, and being applauded for sticking to that instruction. However, the compromising seems to have knocked all discernible style and shape out of the team.

Today was played at a strolling pace for most of its 90 minutes. The first half was back to Celtic being as ineffective as they had been against Legia. There was an improvement in the 2nd half but it was never a hi-energy game at any point. Of course, Motherwell scoring early ensured we were up against a deep back 4 supplemented by a defensive 5 in midfield. We were invited on to them and, apart from a soft penalty, they coped with the “onslaught” that the invitation brought.

Efe does not seem to be trusted by his team-mates. There may be reasons for this but it left Callum determined to do things on his own whereas Izzy had attacking support when he opened up the left side (well, after Tonev finished his Boerigter impersonation stint).

Nir Biton was the only pass and move footballer in that first half. Callum worked hard but decision making was poor. Scott Brown, without playing well, improved us but the 2nd half consisted of attempts to back heel the ball to team mates just as in the first we were reduced to several woeful long range shots.

Motherwell were poor today and we matched them.

I cannot say that tactics were responsible for our defeat as much as poor player effort was. But, unless the manager can get players to buy into his style and actually attempt to implement it, we will face a decision soon.

This is not yet working. We need to consider soon if it will ever work. The journey back starts on Wednesday against Hearts.

Henderson’s omission bemuses me. He was good and would have developed even further. Don’t understand that at all. He got sent off in pre-season didn’t he, perhaps that has something to do with it ?

  6. If Ronnie goes, the replacement will almost certainly be old school British football type.

We will win a one horse race comfortably via Stokes, Commons etc. We may defend our way to the CL.

We will continue to struggle to integrate new offensive players and our young players will not be good enough at the top level.

Are the forward players we sign really so bad? Or are your chances of success related to whether you are in the attack clique?

I remember Henrik going out if his way to get goals for Brattbakk.

I wonder if we have a team spirit – but only if you are in the ‘team’.

I’m prepared to give the new guy the whole season. Celtic were diminishing as we fell further behind. Innovation is required as we don’t have the dosh, some luck and time required too in my estimation.

Wakaso looks like a player and will hopefully deliver a cross ball. We have lacked that for some time. I’m all for the introduction of professional behaviours and whatever benefits the likes of sports science can bring.

Change needs time, luck and patience mate.

    ………

Everything you say there mate rings true.

    But,

I don’t think the manager has the know how to implement the things you say.

His team selections, tactics and substitutions are utterly baffling.

    He is not learning.

    One win in seven games?

As I said earlier, the fact the Hun is not in our midst has led to mass complacency and it is spreading rapidly through the support.

We have to beat Hearts on Wednesday. The game is monumental.

    Take care pal.

Get a grip pal, any Celtic supporter should ALWAYS want our team to win the league full stop.

    must either be

    Or

    lost for words

  10. I haven’t read back so my gut reaction to today may be miles away from the consensus on here.

I’ve advocated all along that Ronny should be given time.

I’m now deeply worried at just how long it’s going to take.

    One point.

He claimed that he liked playing wingers who got to the bye line and put crosses into the box.

We’ll see if that’s the case why does he insist on playing a left footed player (McGregor) on the right flank and a right footed player (Tonev) on the left?! He did the same with Berget.

Their natural instinct will always be to cut inside, always!!!

Time and time again play slowed down and we lost momentum because Tonev in the first half and McGregor in the second cut backwards to get the ball onto their preferred foot.

I’ll tell you something, if a Hun team was in that league, Ronny would be under a whole lot more pressure than he currently is. Thank God they died.

Hearts will give us a game on Wednesday be sure of that.

  11. Mowed the lawn before commenting on today’s dreadful display, trying hard for some perspective.

Firstly, the manager DOES need time to establish his regime.

The unfortunate thing is that it is altogether too difficult for this supporter to discern what his regime should look like.

Secondly, I don’t believe that RD has any idea what his his best eleven is. He makes too many unforced and unnecessary changes, game to game.

IMO he must maintain the spine of Craig Gordon, VVD and Denayer, Broonie and Commons and either of the two new centre forwards, ( too early to judge which one). That leaves the wide areas and Broonie’s partners to be found.

Young Calum McGregor is not a main man and should not be seen as one, starting every game. He is capable but not the game changer, I think RD thinks he is.

Izzy will be ok on the left side once he gets a regular wide man in front of him. Maybe that will be Wakaso, if so why was he not playing today. We already know that it is not Derk Bo, Tonev or Berget. ( they can all go anytime).

On the right, the sooner we get the sicknote trio of Matthews, Lustig and Forrest fit and ready the better. At the moment we only have Efe and young Calum, which is never going to be good enough, but at least they spend more time on the park than in the infirmary. The sicknote trio are of no use to Celtic in the treatment room.

Thirdly he must find the partners for Broonie. I favour Stefan Johansen over Kayal, Chic Muldini and Biton but would like to see young Liam Henderson get some game time. RD needs to decide who he wants and play them regularly.

I have no idea what Leigh Griffiths must have done to not get a shot before Stokes but it must be serious as Stokesy is second rate even for SPL.

Finally RD has a philosophy about how we, Celtic, our club, should play. He has to decide if he can maintain his tactical stance in light of the players at his disposal. Most of our games involve the opposition parking the bus.

Are his tactics and player choices good enough to overcome this basic tactic?

Today they were not. The quality of player on show was poor. The lack of creativity breathtaking. The paucity of shooting prowess astounding. It was difficult to keep watching.

Not a knee jerk reaction but some testing times ahead for Ronny. I really hope he is the real deal. Paradise will be lost if he is not.
