  1. There was a general strike going on in northern Italy with most industries closed at the time of the final against Feyenoord. I guess that the match programme was never printed.

From 2010 FOOTBALL PROGRAMME CENTRE:Re EC Final 1970 match programme.his programme

There was a single sheet programme produced for the 1970 EC final in Italy by Tutti sport but it wasn’t sold at the match because Amsterdam was listed as Celtic’s opponent instead of Feyenoord/ Rotterdam.

**My reply yesterday @4.26 stated there was a programme issued, because of a photo showing both line ups for the game.

  3. Bhoyjoebelfast on

….alongside other EC match programmes,so I assumed this was the programme that was indeed issued.

Wingers : Jota, Maeda, Abada, Kyogo, Jamesie, would all feature before MIkey imo.

He is a very talented bhoy but needs to learn that the game is about more than trying to beat four players and have a shot. Needs to learn about the defensive side of the game and when to make the pass to a better placed team mate.

A loan to St Mirren or someone of that ilk might be the making of him.

  5. Mikey Johnstone is a selfish player who needs a reality check.

Send him out on loan where he might appreciate what he needs to do to become a Celtic starter HH

Mikey Johnstone is a selfish player who needs a reality check.

    …………………….

I am not sure about Mikey Johnston being ” a selfish player ” or not, from what I seen from him in recent years, is that he just isnt good enough to become a player who can be relied on to deliver when given a place…even from the subs bench.

Maybe I am too HARSH on him……but for HOW LONG has he been a so called ” PROMISING Youngster” under different Celtic Managers ?

    HH.

  7. Mikey Johnston is in the final year of his contract (whopping 5 year one from 2018 – Rodgers must have rated him)

As such, he isn’t worth much in a sale this season. From Celtic’s point of view, we keep him as back up and let him go at the end of the season so he can get a good signing on fee to pay back his loyalty

From his point of view, he might want to go now if his fitness is good. At 23, his next contract is crucial

Mikey Johnston more lives than a cat, had more than enough opportunities to shine.

  9. Tom McLaughlin on

Why is everyone picking on Mikey Johnston today? Ok he hasn’t been a success in a Celtic jersey, but is that a crime?

  10. A rumour behind Mikey is the Ronny Deila has made an offer at Standard Liege.

Now I could have a full heid of hair but…….

  11. MJ,the same debate every year.Personally,I wish the boy had as much bottle as he has self confidence. No doubt has skill, but seldom do we get an end product from it.Should have bulked up a bit as he is very lightweight. When he got his couple of chances to shine, and what better chance for a diehard Tim,against that mob,his bottle crashed,at Ibrox, and Hampden.Especially at Hampden when Eddy put him clean through with not a Hun in site.I think there were a more than a few knowing he would make an arse of it,which he did.

He HAS had chances, just does not take them.Wishy washy displays.

Needs to move on,for his own sake.

  12. garygillespieshamstring on

    Tom,

I’m not “picking on” MIkey Johnston.

I am merely commenting upon his place in the pecking order as a result of suggestions that he might go out on loan.

My view is that going out on loan might be the best thing for him in his development as a player as he has aspects of his game that will hold him back from making an impact as Celtic player.

At 23, he is not a youngster. Jinky was 22 when he starred in Lisbon. Guys like George mccluskey, Aitken, Paul McStay, Charlie Nicholas, Mike Conroy, DavidMoyes and Alan Sneddon etc we’re all first team regulars at an earlier age.

My gut feeling is that, with a few exceptions, if you have come through the Celtic youth system and not become a first team regular when you are approaching 24 you are unlikely to make it.

Not picking on him, just making an observation.

I did not realise that the comments about Mikey Johnston were prompted by speculation about a loan bid from another club.

Apologies to you and everyone else who commented.

  14. I am a big fan of MJ but there is no denying that he has yet to bring his reserve and training ground form into the first team.

I have no reason or information to attribute selfishness, lack of application or any detrimental defect to the personality of a boy I don’t know personally.

But, as someone who admires his talent- I am happy to see him leave Celtic to get a chance to play regular senior football. There are plenty of clubs who will be delighted to have him. I can see no evidence that he is about to overtake a hierarchy ahead of him that reads- 1) Jota, 2) Maeda or Abada and 4) Forrest. He will soon have Rocco Vata competing for his occasional bench slots.

MJ can leave with my best wishes and a fervent hope his talent thrives in a different setting. So much so that I hope we end up wanting him back. He has not let Celtic down by being unprofessional but, for whatever reason, he has failed to make the grade under managers willing to give him a chance.

So, I agree MJ should leave.

But, in common with a few others, but not all of us, he leaves with my best wishes- just don’t score against Celtic if you stay up here in Scotland!

    Tom,

    Thanks but no problem.

It is folk having different opinions that makes for good Celtic chat on the blog.

I prefer that to all the political stuff, but I also appreciate that some guys enjoy that.

Round about now somebody usually posts that it just no fair and Mikey Johnston’s never been given a chance in the first team, and how he needs a ‘run’

*** SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2022-23 ***

Hi, I’ve just signed up the CQN Sentinels Pool and wondered how I pay the fee(s) to enter the competition?

    Cheers in advance.

  18. bournesouprecipe on

Young Celts that didn’t really kick on , Jamie Smith, John Halpin, Owen Archdeacon, Brian McLaughlin, Stevie (Baggio) Fulton

  19. Anyway, moving on from Mikey, what’s happened to young Bosun.I watched him against the Huns and he was awesome.Like a young VVD.Brushing them aside taking the ball past them, setting up attacks with lovely passes.Confidence oozing out of him.He looks a bit overawed when playing in the big team.Nervous and a bit reticent to try anything.

I hope that’s all it is,because he looked like he had everything.

Should be training with the first team permanently to build his confidence up.

I think we have a real talent there.Anyone else seen him more regularly?.

  20. For me Mikey is a good football player ,but he can overdo the drippiling part and his final pass isn’t his best ,but Ange seems to hold on the likes of Welsh ,Mikey etc ,hoping they can look at Ralston how he has turned out ,with a manager encouraging him to do better

My best/worst memory of Keevins was at the start of season 2005/06 when we lost 0-5 to Artmedia Bratislava in the first-leg of a CL qualifier, followed by a 4-4 draw away to Motherwell in our opening league fixture.

After the Fir Park game, Keevins declared on Radio Clyde that “the League is over”. Even Derek Johnstone laughed at him, saying, “You can’t say that after one game.”

Celtic went on to win the title, 17 points in front of Hearts in 2nd and Rangers 18 points behind Celtic in 3rd.

Also, before the start of that season, Shunsuke Nakamura agreed to join Celtic, but wouldn’t arrive until a few weeks into the season due to contractual reasons. After Celtic narrowly failed to overcome the 5-goal deficit at home to Artmedia, Keevins said, “There is no chance of Nakamura coming to Celtic now that they are out of Europe at the first hurdle.”

  22. Under no circumstances would I want Welsh to leave, I think he has the makings of a top Defender,

I like Mikey but he has run out of road at Celtic, think it would be better for him to try his luck elsewhere.
