  1. I too was at the PSG game in 95. We were completely outplayed but everyone I was with was optimistic that we could reach those heights one day.

Now? The top of the club game in Europe is barred to clubs like ours…

  2. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Tim Green – spare me. If you don’t want to compel people to take responsibility for their own actions then fair enough

ONE GUY damaged Celtic badly tonight.

The action was his and his alone, so should be the consequences.

    Hail hail

We were in awe of them and it showed especially first half. We improved after ht but were still chasing shadows. They are better than I realised. World class in every position.

Will do them in Paris! :)

  4. Madmitch

And your game is seen through the opposite end of the telescope from mine. We slipped and trod on the ball because we were chasing and harrying and trying to break with the ball. Broony and N’tcham were far better in the first half than either Ralston or Tierney who were both getting a roasting from their direct opponent.

Your reasoning is that we were outplayed because we were poor. Mine is that we got outplayed because their players were better. I have seen teams who were beaten before the off and whose heads and expectations went down when goalss 2 and 3 go in.

I saw none of that tonight. Paddy Roberts ran into groups of 2 and 3 because he was brave on the ball and wanted it, unfortunately PSG are intelligent and sniff out threats and then snuff them out. They crowded him out by their effort and their skill. And on the occasions where Paddy got by the first man, they either had another waiting to slow him or to cynically chop him down but no threat was allowed to develop.

In the 2nd half Tierney and Sinclair continued to try to be offensive but, in the first half, so many threatening crosses were getting in from their side.

I am proud of the efforts of all our celts- not one short changed me with poor attitude or effort. even Stuart Armstrong was just off-form, not “swinging the lead” or “defeated before the game” or “disinterested’ oe any other pseudo-psychological explanation. They were just outplayed. And it will happen again in, at least, one of the 3 remaining ties vs Barca & PSG.

But I still remain strangely confident, despite this huge and historic level of defeat, that we will deprive either Bayern or PSG of some of the remaining 9 points on offer in those ties. That’s what will keep me watching.

  5. Totally agree about Celtic suing pitch invaders. Imagine he’d connected with Mbappe?

The club’s reputation will be damaged, and Radio Shortbread were salivating at the prospect of us playing a game behind closed doors. That is no longer a distant prospect.

Sadly, we have morons in our support. We will now all have to pay for the little ned’s stupidity.

  6. GARY67

Was refreshing to watch world class players work hard at both ends of pitch.

I had a chat on here with SOUTH OF TUNIS who posted about criticism Verratti got from Italian press after games against Spain and Israel.I suggested it was hard for him as he was playing with guys of a lesser quality than his club mates and the Italians static play hampered his ability.

PSG’s movement tonight allowed him to flourish.Rabiot was brilliant tonight.

Our midfield struggled tonight due to the press denying space and our own poor off the ball movement.

It’s always easier to pass when you have options but we never afforded our players that luxury.

A sobering lesson for our young team.

I wondered if that increase in value could be explained by what

    ” M6BHOY on 12TH SEPTEMBER 2017 10:05 PM ”

    suggests .

What has been proved recently is that Celtic keep their cards close to their chest .

Exactly where they should be .

Compare and contrast the histrionics, diving and petulance of Neymar with the passing, movement, intelligence and workrate of Cavani.

The wee Brazilian scrotum might get all the plaudits and the obscenely big bucks but Cavani tonight was a proper footballer who went about his job with no fuss. No greeting and bitching to the ref, diving or disrespecting opponents.

Football is going in the wrong direction when its megastars are the Neymars rather than the Edison Cavanis.

  9. Their keeper also looked very good, commanding crosses and good shot stopper

    Owned his box

And Mbappe, apologies for that Trumpet

  10. Tim Malone Will Tell on

We can admire PSG all we like – but if someone said to me that I had a blank cheque book, I think I could have a fair stab at assembling a team that could win the CL.

This isn’t football as we know it – the Qatari’s own PSG and they are as corrupt as they come.

Its time that the likes of ourselves, Ajax, Benfica etc. got off our knees and told UEFA to stuff it – there has to be a better competition than the CL in its current state. It’s a sad day when some bunch of mercenaries show up at CP and hump us – and people just seem to shrug their shoulders and defer to a better team. This is just garbage – we should be looking at access to some fair competition rather than a means to stick £30m in the bank each year to allow us to hump Partick Thistle, Hamilton, Sevco etc. What’s the point?

  11. I fear we may pay a heavy price for the numpty who ran on the pitch. I was surprised he got so far up the park unchallenged before making his half arsed attempt at kicking Mbappe. He truly embarrassed the hoops. Hh

  12. TGBS

Was saying to the bhoys in BV before the game that Cavani was my big fear. Sadly he proved me correct. Rabiot was sensational though. What a player.

  13. In 1995 they outplayed a good Celtic team with both Paul McStay and John Collins in the midfield.

    Admiration then and now.

Tonight, I watched guys play with a cohesion and confidence that was sublime.

Under pressure a defence normally tidies up. PSG played in defence with total cohesion, total confidence when defending in the second period. They were prepared to take risks in their own box as if it was in the centre circle.

They’ve adopted that Barcaesque style of winning the ball back high up the park. Sacking the quarterback trying to make the pass.

Speed of thought was impressive too.

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Italia bhoy / green Tim.

    It has started already.

Check out Westbrit’s match report on the BBC website.

I’d respectfully draw your attention to the enlarged font section.

You can almost feel the man’s glee.

Hail hail and good night all.

  15. PSGs passing and movement was at times unplayable. The number of passes involved in their offside goal was amazing.

  16. Just home.

Celtic probably gave PSG too much respect in the first half.

They have a quality team though. Their defence is top class.

They were obviously wanting to get that Barca game out of their system.

Excellent effort in the 2nd half by the Celts. The Crowd was awesome.

We have learned so much in that game. Sevco are going to feel the brunt of it.

The wee man called it correctly when he said we wouldn’t get by them with pace – Paddy was Great and I thought Tom made a difference when he came on.

A very special mention to Tony Ralston – it could not have been a harder CL debut, you played well young man.

I’m glad PSG wurnae shooting when they could have been from outside the box. I’d say they are easily the favourites to win it this year.

  17. Bedtime.

Even if we bought ‘a centre-back’ in the windae it would have prevented nothing.

Outclassed by a money rich outfit.

    Still Celtic.

  18. In spite of the score, I Had a great night watching the game at the Bad ASs Cafe. Really enjoyed meeting Magwai. And almore … just a real gent and great Celt. Really enjoyed the tour, and the home cooked meal was a treat! And the cutest pup… felt right at home. Thank you pal!!!

And as a bonus… I even managed to find my way back to my hotel! Woo hoo!

  19. Tim Malone Will Tell on

Neymar ireally s a classless piece of shit – my one real piece of enjoyment in the game was young Ralston laughing at him.

Obviously disappointing , Pete , but I`m not downcast in the slightest.

We`re at the top table gaining the financial windfall that comes with that.

We don`t have a team of mercenaries.

We do have a team with a fair number of locals.

Just one criterion for us now .

    Improvement. Maybe gradual .

    But improvement.

  21. Corkcelt

Pleasure to meet you tonight at last. Pity the match did not live up to our pre match high spirits. We were outclassed tonight. No excuses!

    ****

You’re missing the point. Yrs his actions alone and he should have to face the consequences. Totoally agree.

But to suggest the solution is for Celtic to bankrupt him and that that would carry no implications for the club is just daft. The issue is more complex than that.

  23. Ps … have I said I love Dublin.

Really looking forward to Belfast tomorrow, and Glasgow this weekend!!!

  24. Tim Malone Will Tell on

How much money are we paying for stewards who cant keep idiots off the pitch? Are they just a bunch of ball watchers?

  25. Macjay1,

    We are in fine fettle.

We have incredible youngsters coming through as well.

I was, like All of the Support, so proud to see Celtic go for it 2nd half. Never give up.

Celtic just got a lot stronger tonight – you really must Believe me when I say that. :)))

  26. MiT

If you do not love Dublin, you do not love life.

    Vibrant youthful city.

    See you Saturday sir.

  27. STARRY…

I was hypnotised by Rabiot’s performance.Didn’t put a foot wrong, oozed class and set the tempo.Complete footballer.

If I could pick one player from PSG to play for us he’d be the it.

    Pleasure to watch.

  28. Taken to school, an exceptional team who will get tested better than tonight, no escape goats, overwhelmed by superior players. We lost a couple of poor goals , but they could have scored more if required.Anderlecht was always the Cup Final, bring it on.

Re: Rabiot – as above – agree with every word – never heard of him before tonight – what a fantastic, calm and assured player – brilliant.

A word for Wee Paddy Joe – the wee man is brilliant. Before he ran out of steam he went past 2 of them every time he picked up the ball. All too often there was a third waiting for him and no Celtic player available for a pass – very frustrating. Wee man is class.

    Mate.

Ralston was the shining light. Up against a global superstar . Got stuck in second half.

Half time , I thought that Brendan should have perhaps put someone else on Neymark , but I got it wrong.

Tony responded to the challenge magnificently .
