  1. Normally we are the bullies. Last night we got a taste of our own medicine. Battered.

When we face them again we need to be better tooled up.

    Steel combs.

( or if they don’t sell them any more, sharp pencils)

  2. The lack of fight in the first half was disappointing.

    Hopefully that won’t happen again.

It was like the players were overawed from the start. Apart from Armstrong, who was asleep, but probably would have been overawed if he had woken up (we’ll never know).

Frustrating night for Paddy Roberts, who was marked out of the game. They clearly saw him as a potential threat and had three players on him every time he had the ball.

Take him to the Gallowgate on a pub crawl today. Make sure he understands what you mean by a “great” team when you point to pictures on the wall.

Fair play to PSG. The last team to spend £250m of other people’s money trying to win the Champions League couldn’t even make it out of the group stage. Or even into it some years……

  5. Cultsbhoy says Hail Hail to Hector and Brendan on

Any criticism of our Bhoys last night is imo very harsh. I’m disappointed by BR 12 yr olds reference.

Given the massive gulf in player quality I thought we did well at points although we seldom made any ground in the final third.

PSG are extremely talented and streetwise.

You could tell Ralston and Tierney are fans as at one point when all hope had gone they really started to tear in to their opponents..impressive for such young guys and shows real character.

I though Roberts showed up well.

My had a few good moments but I would have taken him off rather than Armstrong and would have brought on McGreggor rather than Rogic. Also would never have replaced Griffiths.

Re our centre back deficit..it bit us on the bum last night but it’s difficult to think of a centre back we can afford that would have made the difference. One thing for sure it confirmed my long held belief that we are looking for 2 centre halves.

The pitch invader idiot should be held responsible for any fine the club gets. What a total bell end.

  6. What an anti-climax!

The eventual result was always possible and it did reflect the relative performances.

I was surprised to see N’tcham and Armstrong together thought Rogic for either would have been better.

Can understand the deployment at RB and CH but irrespective of the combination we are short of quality at the back.

Had Boyata and Siminovic been playing regularly from the start of the season our defending would have been much better and more organised but still not fully what we need even within our financial restraints.

PSG were excellent and ‘forced’ us into ball chasing rather than space closing making their job much easier.

Brendan is a fine fine manager and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone and his desire to play modern football must be the way. His need, perhaps, is to refine it somewhat to more suit his resources?

I have no issues with the bit of a dig he gave to the players because he balanced it with praise and of course he has been the players champion since he came through the front doors. He complements all the players by playing them the way he does, by challenging them to perform without fear and use ALL the skills they have.

Congrats to the crowd, well most of them anyway, for all the encouragement they gave the Bhoys. Noticed some of the singing and chanting eminated from the south West corner…. maybe a nascent White Brigade??? However….so called fans leaving with 15 minutes to go just rips up my knitting. Best go and not come back imo.

    As for the moron……no words.

So what have we learned that we didn’t know before? Not a lot.

    But….

We know Celtic will perform much better than we did last night so anything (almost) is within our grasp!

  7. Morning all, looking for info. Anybody know where the Sevco game on the 23rd can be watched in Kuala Lumpur -Malayasia, brother and cousin flying out today would be grateful for any help. Hail Hail Hebcelt

  8. Tim Malone Will Tell on

The obvious thing that struck me was that PSG have tremendous quality all over the pitch – even their keeper looked exceptional.

When we have played ‘class teams’ previously, they generally have two or three excellent players with others who are merely ‘very good’.

PSG seem to have taken club football to another level – but its done purely by spending obscene Qatari money.

Last night was a bit like facing Brazil from 1970 – PSG are that far ahead.

The one consolation is that we are unlikely to face another team quite as formidable as that – but I do hope that PSG field their reserve side when we get to Paris.

  9. theBHOYfromU.N.C.L.E on

Commented last night ‘over it already’ before I went to bed………………….only to be confronted by that inescapable feeling of dread and realisation that a heavy defeat brings.

But no shame………………PSG have talents outwith our gift and good luck to them,me……….would I be happy to see Celtic funded like they are,pay obscene transfer fees and wages?………………NO.

We go with what we have.

    Disciplinary updates

All the latest from UEFA competition disciplinary and match-fixing prevention cases.

    LIVEby UEFA

    Wednesday 13 September 2017 10.35CETUEFA

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Celtic FC and Paris Saint-Germain (0-5), played on 12 September in Scotland.

    Charges against Celtic FC:

    • Field invasion – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)

    Charges against Paris Saint-Germain:

    • Acts of damage (seats broken) – Art. 16 (2) DR

These cases will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 19 October.

  11. Dexter P. Bampot on

What we witnessed last night was the product of the financial doping and unfair television deals since the 1992.

We effectively have around 12-15 Harlem Globetrotter sides in Europe whilst the rest pick over the scraps.

The elite sides and millionaire players are just so far removed from the rest of the teams and the fans (including their own) that the whole thing is a bite turn off.

All the big sides cruised it last night and we weren’t the only victims of a tanking.

This elitism will only continue in the short term. The only way it will change and revert to something like the game as we knew it is either for the football authorities to take real action to level the playing field (they are hopelessly conflicted so this will not come to pass) or the financial house of cards comes crashing down.

Signing a defender may or may not have helped – at least it would have given us the option going 5-3-2. Griffiths worked hard, but really isolated and couldn’t do much against the back four passing it around.

  15. Too much being made of Brendan`s `under 12`s ` comment ( 0n here , I mean, totally predictable from the MSSM ).He used a straightforward simile to make the point that we were disjointed in the first half . For the rest of the interview, he complimented both Celtic and the outstanding PSG.

Likewise, virtually the whole stadium showed their disapproval with the deranged pitch invader. Why, then, decide to give `air-tiime` to some in the standing area who, apparently applauded the action.

    JJ

  16. No Celtic player would get onto the PSG bench let alone team, perhaps Dembele could be a squad player. They, and half a dozen other ‘super clubs’ are playing a different sport from the rest. A financially doped sport but when a corrupt, money mad organisation like UEFA are in control they’ll milk the cash cow for as long as they can get away with it.

Previously we could compete with anyone at CP and get a result, against these teams that is now a 1 or 2 in 10.

In saying that our squad is still some way to go to be among the challengers to be best of the rest. Too many of our squad are very good in domestic football, and in some cases international football, Gordon, Armstrong, Forrest, McGregor, Rogic, Griffiths etc, but not good enough to step up. Lustig now also falls in this category as his best days are behind him. Jury is out on Boyata, hasn’t played in CL and Sinclair, shows in flashes what he can do. We have great potential in youngsters, KT, Ralston, Ntcham, Jozo, Ajer and Paddy (who’ll go back to MC) but only Brown and Dembele are good enough, and the captain only has a couple of years max. at this level.

BR needs to stick with the youngsters and hope they develop into CL quality players and keep trying to find Dembeles, Wanyamas to enable the team to compete with the best again.

  18. PSG could have swapped their back 4,with their midfield, and you wouldn’t have noticed.I thing Brendan was annoyed that we stood off them too much, but they were that good we couldn’t get close to them, and the cardinal sin in European football, not keeping possession. We gave the ball away very cheaply, specially Armstrong and Ntcham.I thought the back 4 battled manfully, against players with unbelievable touch and movement.Next stop Anderlecht,a game in which we can win.

  21. Very disappointed with last night but I can only say the first half by PSG was as good football as I have seen in modern times.

I know that money talks but it was ever thus. Our own domination of Scottish football a case in point.

I think you just watch it and enjoy.

Re the idiot who came on, I agree Celtic should go after him for the no doubt forthcoming fine, whether we get anything or not a complete named and shamed situation might mitigate future idiocy.

Brendan is a great manager but as someone else posted he will not get everything right but am more than happy with where we are.

Broonie the only one last night that looked the part, but congrats to young Ralston, loved his desire and obvious love of the jersey

Not speculating on any underlying reasons in my post, but there comes a time when as a club we have to say, we are playing in this elite competiti, there are rules, we have to play by them or we don’t get in.

Actions are needed to curb the more exuberant of our supporters who cross the line.

Any extenuating circumstances will clearly need to be assessed in any future narrative.
