    The Onlooker 10.50pm

When Broony appeared to give Janes his man of the match champagne he only had his trackies top on, I immediately thought I wonder what young fan has his top this week

Broony is a brilliant Celtic Captain ☘️

    ………………………

Definitely, the Olde Kojo would surely be very happy with the Broonstigators consistent Good performances…. The wee man joked Broonie again, for MOTM.

    Jamesie was Electric.

  2. Strange one today. Brilliant display from JF. Jozo Simunovic a nightmare again although goalkeeper could have tried harder after that shocking pass back. Watch it again, arms down by side with no effort or attempt to make a save. We can’t blame the AstroTurf this week or the lose of two defenders in 30 minutes so what is the problem, not the symptoms?

Multimillion pound squad struggling week in week out against clubs with no international players to speak of faceing us up and fighting like their very lives depended on it. The spirit and belief seems to have deserted us but we must reignite the dynamics of this squad.

  3. Sinclair or Forrest.

No contest in a European context.

Wee Jamesie is doing it, he is absolutely kicking it.

    Brilliant Celtic.

Agreed and enjoyed every minute of it, just a bit taken aback at how much we have slipped in recent times. Granted a whole team out injured doesn’t help but the mojo has slipped for sure. I am in no doubt we will come good but just being honest in saying I am confused as to how so many players can lose their confidence and consistency at the same time.

Maybe we were just trying to lure the Zenit spies at the game into a false sense of security;-))

Watched the bbc highlights of todays game and as brilliant as wee Jamesy was, WTF was Jozo thinking of?

James Forrest is turning into the type of player we all hoped was hidden inside his hied when he was sitting on his arse slapping the ground every time he was tackled five years ago.

Superb footwork all day from the Prestwick speedster.

Bada Bing, big Kevin the hoopster went from a £50 K bid from Celtic to thirty grand a week.

Don’t think he would be too phased about no getting a hooped shirt. He paid his parents mortgage off and then moved them to a “big hoose”, but notthe big hoose………:_)

He’d have been a good signing if we’d bought him when he was a nipper and he’d had the benefit of Celtic coaching, but offering 50 grand to Dundee was insulting. I’m glad Dundee told us to poke it.

  11. I see a few posts stating that Peter Lawwell did a good job in laying out a clear message by omitting some people from his roll of approbation. Their view is that it was clear who he was aiming at because he did not mention them.

Well, I am afraid that a neutral punter, like Willie Miller in the Radio Scotland studios, showed a complete lack of understanding on who or what Peter was getting at.

That is the problem with a coded message. Anyone , who is not in the know as to the code, can interpret it as they see fit, as masterful or woeful. The problem with a hidden message is that it hides from understanding.

  12. As for criticism of Charly Musonda, I will go out on the same limb that I did for James Forrest these past 5 years. James was always a good player, albeit with some habits that needed to be coached out. Freedom from injury has helped him become the player he always could have been.

And Charly Musonda is very obviously a talented player who is still finding his feet with us. I feel sure that he is going to be a big star once he works out the rules for tackling up here and the runs of his team mates. I remain glad that we have him.

    The great leveller!!!

  14. BMCUW

We’ve had other lightweight players who have learned to adjust

Nakamura used to lose possession if a defender barged or pushed him before he had tamed the ball he received but, if he had brought the ball under control, he did not lose possession and defenders were scared to attempt a tackle because he would make them look foolish.

Tom Rogic took nearly 2 seasons t avoid losing possession regularly. he has now learned to protect the ball earlier and he is capable of being more physical.

I have little doubt that Charly will do likewise. He is an obvious talent.

  15. I thought the drop in performance levels pre winter break were down to fatigue. Get to the break and our ills would be cured or so I thought.

Performances post break have me doubting that prognosis.

Injuries, loss of form etc have been discussed. Loss of focus could be another factor.I wonder if the players have had half an eye on the next game against Zenit since the draw was made?

Hoping for a big improvement for that game, we need it to stand any chance of progressing into the next round.

  16. Delighted for James Forrest on his match winning performance. Must be a contender for POTY.

Player I’ve always defended in conversations with other Celtic fans as I did with McGeady and Maloney during their time. All very good players who made/are making great contributions to our team .

    Greetings from sunny Philippines

    Who broke the blog :-)

Caught up on Jamesy’ goals on YouTube – fantastic display

Reading back the frustration is clear and seems the robust tackling is on the dangerous side with Kieran still coming in for attention

    No protection

Scottish Cup teams set up differently and only take a mistake or ‘honest mistake’ and we are out!

    Was ever the case

I’m resigned to accepting that the overwhelming mass of Celtic fans have simply accepted that we are the whipping Bhoys and absolutely zero will change… even to the point where some actually revel in the victim role.

Willie Miller? Ok, you earn you’re pocket money pontificating to the country about football at our expense. You don’t know who’s on the seven person SFA Board. You think Regan, the former CEO, probably was. Peter Lawwell complimented four (shh, the majority). Who’s left?

    Celtic won again.

The result was never in question, as far as I’m concerned.

Brendan Rodgers continues to answer all of the questions.

    Keep asking.

Mon see when the weather changes, and the pitches improve and our footballers return from injury.

Good luck to Olivia for tomorrow. Don’t think she’ll need it because she’s obviously an outstanding candidate, who will do nothing but enhance the campus at RGU.

  21. Good morning from a cold, windy North Staffs – light snow forecast for most of the day.

Few candles to light this morning – back later

  22. Watched the first half of the game back and it’s significant how much our heads went down when we lost the goal. From 2-0 up and cruising to a lack of ideas and creativity.

Thistle scores a goal and got a bit physical and we went into our shell.

Special mention for the dire first half performance from the BBC Scotland commentary team who when faced with a live broadcast find themselves struck dumb.

I can remember worse times as a Celtic supporter.

I didn`t enjoy yesterday`s performance but I feel some are not enjoying these times quite s as much as maybe they should.

You don`t know what you`ve got etc.

PS Radio Scotland ( I think ) was on on the bus on the way home. I got the impression that all the winning teams yesterday, particularly Craig Levein`s Hearts, were wonderful. Only one of the successful sides was poor, apparently. Not sure if I can blame the `pundits` over much, though as many of our fans were of the same opinion. We certainly were not very good yesterday but we still won and our goals were very good whereas the Jag`s were owing to bad mistakes by Simunovic.

  24. I dont read them, but Newsnow Celtic is now just always full of Clickbait sites slaughtering our players.Used to be great to go on and read reports from all over the world, now, its only the rags and junk, and thankfully a few good Celtic Blogs, like James Forrest.

Wee Charly will be a star for us.He has lightning quick feet, wonderful balance, and not as weak as some seem to think. When Paddy first arrived,he spent weeks playing with the development side to let him settle, then was brought in gradually to the 1st team.Charly has been thrown straight in.Some leeway from the fans required. In saying that,I would hope Brendan goes with Eboue on Thursday night.Broony will need help there.

  25. HOT SMOKED on 11TH FEBRUARY 2018 10:03 AM,

Believe me,I know what it was like in the bad times. These are great times to be a Celtic fan.

I go on about this passing at the back. This is something we have to get right.Playing the ball out from the back,is not,Keeper to defender,to defender, back to keeper,to defender,to midfielder, back to defender, back to keeper,Ad Nauseum.Surely the idea is to get the ball on the deck to the midfield, then onto the forwards as quickly as possible. The amount of time the ball is in our own half in games is bordering on the ridiculous.

We can be much better, and we do get flashes of how good we can be when we go forward.

  26. With regard to PL’s interview with Tom English one of the things that bothered Res12 guys was Celtic’s reluctance to approach UEFA as the Res requested and instead with deal with the issue domestically.

One possible answer has emerged from the documentation Celtic released last September which contains a letter of 25 May 2012, a letter Res12 guys don’t recall seeing although it tells us Celtic were active in trying to protect the integrity of the game.

    Note Well:

It’s not a defense of Celtic. It is an observation based on realising who was involved and if your core belief is its all part of a pretendy put up job then dont go to the link for it will change nothing.

On the other hand if you are prepared to be a bit more informed and put aside suspicions (that the Res12 guys themselves had because of reluctance to approach UEFA) then have a look at

  27. My dad commented yesterday after watching the game and the ‘tackles’ – ‘people are just so jealous of Celtic….’

KT will be seriously injured sooner rather than later. Every bad challenge should result in a posse of angry players surrounding the 2 perps – the one from the other team and the one with the whistle.

  28. JAMESGANG,

Sounds like a good idea. We have to do something. The MIBs are letting the opposition kick lumps out of him each and every domestic game. I was surprised yesterday. I didn’t think Thistle were that kind of team but there were certainly a couple who were more than happy to dish it out, especially the one with the pony tail. He should have seen an early bath.

Celtic have had zero rest for almost 2 years

  30. Some general observations:

Celtic play the ball out from the back for two reasons. Space and accuracy.

Space: it’s simply to draw teams out and tire them, for later in the game too. Accuracy. Some of our support have latched onto a weary mantra of get it forward, quicker. If Celtic do that they will potentially surrender possession, most of the SPFL teams are set out really well, good players too, with one or two overriding instructions from their coaches. Playing the ball forward quicker and faster will inevitably surrender possession.

For the second week we have played with 10. The young lad, Musonda, neither links nor works, at this moment in time. The commentator Michael Stewart referenced the point at half-time, along the lines that we have better current options for the berth. I’d add that’s perhaps a short term view, and our manager is looking ahead.

Enjoyment. The players just don’t seem to be enjoying the game just now.

A few comments about KT being singled out ? How many times did a team mate get involved ? I listened to the CQN podcast with John Fallon and Frank McCgarvey. Both mentioned Broony as the sole player who will get involved, start (a scrap) something. Both observed that in the Hearts game, when Brown attempted to kindle some passion, few if any of the others backed him.
