The interest in Sammi and our decision to offer him a reduced deal intimates to me that we would like him to go and we are encouraging him to take it. Ledley I reckon Lenny would like to keep and he would like to stay but we have not offered him an improved deal. Probably because we cant due to where the wage ceiling is set

I do believe that we are very pragmatic about first team selection and that it is heavily influenced by putting players in the shop window along with maintaining their price tag.

Which is fine by me if we deliver in transfer windows. If we don’t deliver this January coupled with the WC in June I will be surprised if we qaulify for the CL next summer.

This window is a big one for us.

I never read any quotes from anyone that makes me feel hopeful about this transfer window being anything different.

  2. Some folk want change for changes sake. Tony Watt has now fallen foul of two managers in two different leagues. Tony does seem to have talent and these two managers have not denied that. He does lack application and the willingness to listen. You can add Billy Stark to the same list of managers who think exactly the same.

The reason why the players touted by others cannot get a game is that they are not good enough. I would give Pukki more game time though. I don’t see the point in giving him 60 minutes when the guy needs game time. What is the point in putting on Stokes to float around the left hand side of the box.

I know we won’t but I hope we bring in a first team players or two to make things a wee bit more exciting. These 1-0 mechanistic performances serve a purpose but god they are turgid. Maybe when we get a few more wins there will be some more momentum that will bring some interest back. Fan apathy – how to solve answers on a post card to Peter Lawwel.

  3. Jimmci ….. Well said buddy… Absolutely sick of the constant moans and groans….

stringer bell- I take your point mate, but those making comments on here are not professional journalists orbroadcasters (wellI don’t think they are!)

If my son came to me and told me he wanted to be a polisman or a journalist. I would be ashamed about my parenting ability.

I was there that day and I believe it was a guy that I knew who scored the winner for Thistle.

For me today’s experience was worse.

Dont address me again, you will be gone in a couple of weeks.

Enjoy mixing with the big bhoys

  7. Tony obviously has a problem of some sort, be it attitude, lack of application, I don’t know.

Give him to Jim McGuinness for a period and see what he can do with him, the bhoy has the potential to be a star, I would rather it’s in the hoops than another clubs top.

  8. Up the Dubs.

Welcome fella. This sacred place has become a poor imitation of its former self. Lots on here with agendas that they need fed on a weekly basis. Their need to be right far outweighs any balance on the state of the club. It’s now becoming hard wired into their own personalities. Win – not good enough. Clean sheets – not good enough. Unbeaten Run – not good enough. Neil has obviously deployed a tactic to go unbeaten to give the team a stretch target in a one horse league. Seems sensible to me but of course I could concoct a theory that it’s all about his ego.

  10. ryecatcher –

Yes we were all that age once, but WE weren’t given the opportunity to play for a club like Celtic and be paid handsomely for our troubles.

I know for a fact that Tony Watt has not generally looked after himself and is a very poor trainer.

He has been given a great opportunity which many of us would have loved, but he has abused that opportunity and as I have said, it is to Neil Lennon’s credit that he has stood by him.

  11. Celtic were poor today.

Thistle made a game of it.

Why no Paradise Windafall today? Not enough profit to be had because of the crowd?

If so then that’s poor stuff from CelticFC.

I hope PL and the board have a plan to replace the GB with regards to creating an atmosphere, because CP today was morgue like.

  12. Pauloantony…………I can imagine Mrs Browne saying this with a few F words thrown in for good measure. I like the humour.

  13. ryecatcher, I want to see Celtic field the bsst team it can week in week out in order to build for next seasons champions league. Fielding youngsters needs to be done in a progressive and incremental manner so as not to damage their development.

Putting a youngster into the current team would not help them if they performed poorly. Fans would be on their backs and they would then be on the who bought this work in progress mode.

  14. Internet hardman alert tonight lads.

What is it with buses and hardmen in the West of Scotland?

Will scroll past this poor inadequate from now on.

    Laterzzzzz

  15. We’ve all seen what Tony Watt is capable of, he is a terrific young talent with everything in his locker, pace, an eye for goal and one helluva of a shot in his boots. It will be a great shame if he is let slip through the net.

Maybe your son would be more capable of taking a wider view of law enforcement and journalism that you are.

The world has many fine journalists and polis.

  17. Tom,

I hear what you say but looking at his 2 goals last week, against at least SPFL opposition, then surely we need to nurture this talent very quickly?

A season is a long time at Tony’s age.

Bring him back now in my humble opinion, unless there are registration issues which void this.

  18. Another turgid sideways passing game.

From the opposition ten men behind the ball and either the players or the manager have no tactical awareness on how to overcome this. Stokes is offside so many times now he doesn’t know when he is on. We need freshening up and getting rid of deadwood.

  19. Those who are pointing out that there is as much negativity & hostility to CELTIC on the new CQN as there is on Radio Clyde are merely stating the obvious.

If some of these never-satisfied critics actually are CELTIC men then they have a strange way of showing it.

    CELTIC are doing just great.

I thank everybody involved at CELTIC Park for the magnificent job they are doing.

  20. Thanks bud. Absolutely no agenda here. Can anyone really argue against a winning Celtic team?

  21. Evening all

Just in from game. Frozen but great smells coming from the kitchen so I’ll live.

Game stinking. Let’s not kid ourselves. Very little decent play and a Thistle a touch unlucky. Lousy atmosphere. But a win is a win .

Nice to meet Hamilton Tim, Minx1888 and Calton Tongue pre match.

  22. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo, Is there a wage ceiling and if so is Scott Brown standing on the roof or floating somewhere in the ether?

Ledely and Samaras are being offered less because the club want to manage the costs and think the best strategy is to offer less. Samaras has stated he would only go if it was to a club offering the chance to win medals. Celtic chose to offer less (reportedly) but the deal may have offered more security. Samaras has not been up to his early season form when he carried us through some games. I would wager contract uncertainty is behind this and Neil Lennon has further backed that up.

Ledley I would let go if we could find a better replacement. As John Hartson said when he signed for us, he lacks pace. We need pace in the middle of the park and having Scott Brown run around to cover like a burst pipe is not the type of pace I mean.

  23. Tony Watt has scored 3 goals this season in Belgium. His reputation seems built on 2 goals as a sub recently.

If you hid Tonys name and provided his career stats as our January striker this blog would be on meltdown !

It’s just another cheap shot to fire at our manager.

  24. ryecatcher –

If Tony continues to score goals in Belgium I will be delighted, because it might mean he will come back to us a much more mature and professional player, to add to his obvious talent.

There is a season-long contract for the loan deal and both clubs would need to agree to its cancellation.

  25. Hank ray

I pray it works out for us with Tony Watt as he has the tools to be a great footballer.

Hope he fulfills his potential at Celtic.

  26. Just back. Drookit and starving but happy, especially as it has sickened that MacLean who works for the BBC. He reported on the game, with hardly a mention of ourselves. We might have been poor, but to listen to MacLean, we never even had a shot on goal. I thought their goalie was the MOTM (mind you, that wasn’t too difficult).

  27. Up the dubs

Sadly have a look around you and see people discussing their desire to see our manager leave.

When did supporting a winning celtic side become a chore ?

    Post of the year…

Neil and his team are bound to hit a slump very so often, the question is do we continue to support the team and Neil Lennon through this until it changes or do we chuck it and get a new manager, as long as I have watched Celtic there have been times where the football was crap, this is nothing new, my question is can Neil and this group progess and grow, if not why not and where are the solutions.

Hailing Tony Watt as this years Messiah is not in my book a solution and that’s nothing against Tony of his skills.

Calling for the manager to go without naming a viable replacement is also not a solution.

It’s clear to any Celtic supporter that we are not playing well and a striker is the top priority for this window, I would also sign Yamada or a midfielder like him and I would call time on the fringe players who are not going to make, hey the same as every other recent window!!

    Starry..

  30. Goldstar . Why in the name of god do you give any credence to the likes of jim delahunt . No matter what school he wnt to .he is a soup taker of the highest order .unlike jacko leggo , jabb . etc were bigots from birth , delahunt , keevins . Walker should know better , but are accepting the bigot pound . Which in my book makes them worse . And should be treated for the brown nosers they are .

  32. Re Tony Watt

When was the last youngster who went off the rails able to turn himself into a real top league player?

Can’t think of any with us. Ravel Morrison potentially an evxample of this down south?

Alec Ferguson said he was never ever able to turn a player around who had a poor attitude. You could get at them for a while, but as soon as you took the whip away, they reverted to type.

I hope tony gets the finger out. He could be a player.
