  1. Minimum we still need is a GK (I’ve got a feeling Barkas could yet come good – I feel his issue is confidence not ability – Bain on the other hand…. hmmm)

Two CBs, a RB (maybe a cb who can play at RB?) Hopefully Starfelt is on the way.

    A Centre mid.

    All experienced.

I sense Ange is peeved. Hopefully he will have the wherewithal to put it up to the board. I think he does. His conversation with Dom McKay this evening should be pretty simple- ‘get me a viable squad!!!’

Or deliberate, the actions, or lack of, this board has to be questioned.

  3. Based on tonight’s performances, my team for Tuesday would be:

    Barkas

    O’Connor

    Welsh

    Urhoghide

    Taylor

    Soro (if fit)

    McGregor

    Turnbull

    Abada

    Ajeti

    Edouard

    Subs:

    Bain

    Ralston

    Hjelde

    Montgomery

    Shaw

    Robertson

    Rogic

    Forrest (if fit)

    Henderson

    Up to high doh already

  4. Got mixed feelings about the team – excited to see new signings, youth players and experienced players back together but watching v PNE was same old NL tactics/formation. Is AG really in charge or is it JK?

  5. Opposition are looking at that and thinking we pass the ball ok in midfield but we offer no attacking threat and are highly vulnerable at the back.

  6. I will back Ange 100% but he really has been thrown in at the deep end. Yes we are getting players in, but about a month too late. this board have not helped as they should have.

  7. Pre-season games are shite and are all about fitness bla bla bla. But that game told me:

We need an experienced centreback, rightback and leftback asap

Barkas can dive and pass, who knew

Forrest, johnson the Japanese and Israeli boy along side anita and another will make a significant difference.

  8. despite the urgency of the situation – the board has let celtic down. Full backs and center back are thee critical positions (regardless of Ajer sold or not). Yet , we appear to have been negotiating in this positions for 2-3 weeks. Ange said it takes time due to covid – it shouldn’t take weeks to agree a fee , agree a salary and get medical.

Clearly champs league money is not a priority – OR they think the Danes are worse than us!

As for Ange, his downfall high be the instance on playing total football – good luck on Scottish pitches and with Scottish referees!

  9. far too many passes , players running about like headless chickens , defence is rank rotten.

  10. IniquitousIV on

    Gist of post game interview.

“Ange, what did you make of that game today?”

“We started off poorly and sort of fell away.”

Anybody else think he sounded discouraged, and looked flummoxed?

  11. Ange looked a bit down, hope he gets time. The media and others will be looking for signs hes not happy

  12. glendalystonsils on

Why should we be confident about Tuesday? The Danes will be significantly better than PNE .

We seriously lack quality and experience . A few gifted but inexperienced players can thrive when surrounded by experienced teammates but we have not got the balance to succeed at the moment and that was obvious today .

The Japanese boy and Starfelt need to be joined by another CB and 2 full backs of similar quality asap.

  13. Dont play

    Eduoard

    N’tcham

    Ajer

    Christie

    Griffiths

    Boli

    Rogic

    ever again

    Ajeti

    Edouard

We’ve been woefully unprepared in previous qualifiers but this in unbelievable.

I’d definitely go with the mid to from six you have. Forget that Eddie’s going, we need to give ourselves a chance on Tuesday.

Barkas, yes. Actually that was probably his best game today.

    Welsh is a cert.

Urhoghide is very raw and will give away lots of fouls. He might have some good attributes but he will need a fair bit of coaching.

Montgomery looks like he’ll be a far better left back than Taylor but I’d go for Taylor’s experience on Tuesday (forget that he can’t pass and loses possession).

Right back, Holy shit have we ever been so devoid of options.

Some dreadful trying to play out at back from Bain and Boli.

Turnbull very good as was Mcgregor. Like the promise of young Murray. Looking forward to being there on Tuesday. The 9000 need to be like the 300 Spartans.

Much as it would be nice to have that luxury, we can’t do it while we only have kids and makeweights to replace them with .

    Maybe in time .

  16. Go tell the Spartim on

Think we’re all discouraged I think he’s realised pretty quickly we are rubbish at the back, Welsh (at this stage ) and Taylor are squad players, the rest are too young or not good enough, drastically need good defenders and now, too late for Tuesday and the tie, but of course members of the board will still enjoy their little jolly to Denmark

Midweek I struggled to sleep….a combination of heat and watching celtic…..tonight I’m on citrizene and alcohol….I may add a couple of co-codomol to make sure ……deary me……the old adage of players becoming better when not there ….forrest is messi and Scott Brown is kalvin philips…..I can even handle a pre season defeat if there is a glimmer …….Barkas didn’t look completely useless in fact he did fine…. I would kill for a couple of PNE hard journeymen who actually win tackles ….but the league of nations 11 no strength weaklings are breaking this old dogs heart !!!

  19. glendalystonsils on

I think our best and perhaps only hope is to keep the tie alive until the return leg . Another week to get new guys bedded in and a week fitter . Clutching at straws though .

    Rogic

I agree, not only because there is no future in it, but in my opinion there is no present in it either.

If the boy from Japan hadn’t signed, I would be worrying about Ange’s staying power.

The sooner the European qualifiers are out of the way, the better – we can then swallow the disappointment and get on domestically, which will be an uphill task.

There is neither shape, make, nor, form, to our squad – we are not adding to a core squad, we are trying to build the core. How long will that take?

Well it appears that we are still in the ‘try out’ stage – i.e. try all the players you’ve got and see who could ‘live’ in a restructured squad. We will probably be in the ‘try out’ stage until the end of August and then probably pad things out with some loans.

Dom & Ange have been handed a chalice – maybe not poisoned, but certainly past its ‘sell by date’ Astonishing really!!!

  22. I think in all honesty we forget CL this year.

Ralston doesnt loom assured for me.

We need player who can feckin jump & challenge.

Forwards may work out but long way to go.

    BTW

not convinced we will be brushed aside this season ( SG & SFA)

    Compared to last.

  23. with defenders that can’t head the ball, tackle and are without any positional sense and add Kennedy and Strachan as coaches , recipe for disaster.

  24. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Sevco successfully rebrand a shortcoming in their medical procedures ….

There is no bandwagon that shower won’t jump on to generate publicity.

  25. Trying to build the core. Nail on the head.

It would be OK taking this if it was the 90s but jeeso, how we’ve fallen.

I am genuinely encouraged by some prospects but they are actually our first team options right now.

  26. There was some positives today

    Barkas No 1

Lee O’Connor in 30 mins looked much better than Tony Ralston

For me Murray & Hjelde, looked far more comfortable in the middle than what Urghohide did

Montgomery or Hjelde, look far far better on left of defence than either Taylor or Bolingoli

I think young Scott Robertson looks very decent, and will be a squad player

Rogic & Edouard got game time, and we seen Abada

Now, when will we see Ange tactics ?

I’m convinced we are still watching the Lenny, Kennedy & Strachan set up

PS, can we try 2 up front, instead of leaving our centre forward isolated

  27. glendalystonsils on

Take Calmac , Turnbull and (perhaps) Barkas out of today’s starting 11 and what you have is a Celtic second team , what we used to call Celtic reserves .

    Crivvens .

  28. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Lots of misplaced optimism around, for no other reason than after 12 months of misery we need to believe it’s about to get better. Today was a reminder of how much damage Lawwell and Lennon have inflicted during thag time. The team is young, inexperienced, weak and new. No time to gel. They two muppets have set us back years. But keep kidding yourself on if it helps.

  29. Call_of_Juarez on

We are always badly undercooked for the CL

qualis but today has got me wondering if we will be good enough for 2nd place in the league. Desperate times.

  30. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Let’s build that statue to Lawwell. What a legacy from the man. Worth every last penny.
