I agree, although he ran the midfield, it was not European or top 6 opposition. But….. heading in the right direction.

Apart from the smashing pass through for the first goal, I thought he had a really good game. Thought his game management was generally good, a couple of stray passes but well up the park where space is much tighter. Linked well with the two centre backs, controlled play generally in front of those two. He just needs game time!!

Just what we needed during this incessant schedule. An easy 3-0 win against 10 men where we don’t have to go hell for leather fir 90 mins. Getting to the semi is already progress from last year,

McCarthy looks like he’s learning to play Ange’s way, he certainly looks like an intelligent footballer who’s listening
He was playing a different role in a very rigid structure under Roy Hodgson, there’s no way he would have been expected to play passes like the one he did for the first goal at palace.

Games against this level of opposition, and Dundee, St Mirren earlier in the season are good to win, but tell us nothing about our chances of performing and winning against better quality.
Let’s keep that in mind. I’m encouraged that we are introducing young players, if their ability can match their hunger, it will stand us in good stead.
I enjoyed the first- half tonight – we are still very much WIP.

AZ Alkmaar lose again, 3-1 to FC Twente. With 1 win and 4 losses, they sit firmly second last in the Eredivisie, 17th out of 18 teams.

I think that rather than not giving GG a shot tonight, it was more case of trying Jota through the middle. It seemed to work, we stretched the defense more with his movement from CF, it’s a good option to have, a different one to a more traditional more static CF like Ajeti

It was a good outing for Mc Carthy.He needs game time.Not brilliant but OK.Midfield a bit dysfunctional,Rogic not anywhere near his best,Turnbull,same,Mc Carthy needing games.Abada,I think,better as a striker,not great at beating men on the wing,can fairly put them away.Something about CCV that I love.
Not overly impressed,but a few got a run out,and nothing at stake after the 3rd.Can take on board about Gio,but how can he get game time if he won’t bring him on.Big game on Sunday.Unt playing defensively won’t be easy to beat.

Good draw – I can smell an all green final. Hibs are a better bet to overturn the Ibrox team than us…..at the moment.
