PeterLatchfordsBelly having watched the clip on X (link posted earlier), the referee’s whistle was blown exactly as the clock at the top of the screen ticked over onto 95:00. So technically it was within the allotted time, but the penalty kick should have been the final kick off the ball (rebound notwithstanding). There should have been no subsequent play.
Furthermore, whoever the pundit was immediately stated “that’s never a penalty!”. But I did think that the second QP defender impeded the rangers player (who 100% played for the pen) from jumping for the ball… albeit he wouldn’t have connected due to the first defender’s header. If it had been a Celtic player attacking I suspect we’d have wanted the decision and would have accused the ref of cheating had it not been forthcoming.

On Saturday 29 October, Queen’s Park beat Vale of Leven 2-1 in a fine game in Alexandria. Willie Anderson put Queen’s ahead with a slick goal in seven minutes and Tom Brock added a second two minutes later. Vale pulled one back through David Friel five minutes from time.
Queen’s Park were away from home again on the following Saturday. Their opponents were Rangers and the match attracted 5,000 spectators to Kinning Park. Queen’s Park fell behind in 25 minutes to a Corbett goal but two second half goals, one from a Johnny Kay header and the other from David Allan, gave the visitors a 2-1 victory. The Queen’s Park team was A R Rowan; A Watson and A H Holm; J J Gow and J W Holm; M J E Fraser, W Anderson, G Angus, G Ker, J L Kay, and D S Allan.

I don’t normally defend match officials in any way but….
In a league game it is important to play all the due added time as any goal(s) either way might affect GD and league place at end of season. Referees have considerable leeway with regard time management and in a cup game with one team 5 ahead, the outcome of the match will not be altered by playing 3 or 4 added minutes and do calling time dead on 90 mins is reasonable. Also, from my point of view, it meant no risk of injuries in that 3 or 4 mins to key players with no real gain in terms of the result.

Great Celtic times indeed.
25 years ago this week we lost to Inverness Caley at home in the cup.
Since then we have won 18 leagues and they have won 7. We have won 11 Scottish Cups to their 6 and 12 Lesgue Cups to their 7. A total of 41 Trophies to their 20.
Prior to that we had won just 4 trophies in 12 years since 1988. They won 25 in that period.

For those interested in other Celtic good news the Puskas team beat Ferencvaros tonight in Hungary.
Given the latter are potentially going to have a higher coefficient than us it is in our interests for them not to win the league there so we are more likely seeded in the play off draw in August.
