    Drowning his sorrows…wow….hun mirror?

Last I looked…we were still champions elect…but don’t let that mean anything

  2. GFTB

Last year we had a series of home games. That’s reversed this time out.

They’re not dropping points at the same rate.

We need to win the next ten and then go and do them at ibrox. That’s the reality.

  3. MACJAY 1 FOR NEIL LENNON @ 21:41

Agree on the transfer fee scenario, but doesn’t that add weight to the apparent disparity in the standard of coaching?

To be honest there is a feeling of inevitability that we are now back in the tug of war with the occupants of Ibrox.

The disappointment for me is in the realisation that when the first serious challenge for nine years materialises, we may be found wanting.

Funnily enough there was no “wailing and gnashing of teeth” in our group, or, those immediately around us today – just disappointment and resignation that the best team had won.

Every squad has a ‘shelf-life’, the core of ours, i.e. Forrest, Brown, Calmac, Griffiths, Ajer, Rogic, Bitton, Simunovic & Ntcham, may have, as a group, reached their ‘sell by date’ quite literally. Frimpong, Taylor, Jullien, Christie, Johnston, Eduard, Elhamed may be longer term future. I don’t envisage them all going at the same time, but perhaps the process will start at the end of the season.

Management is something I’d like to ‘chew over’, suffice to say that we look slightly tired compared to the Liverpool Youth set-up now transplanted in Ibrox.

  4. The positives to me are that it might Just might compel the board to act, if not we’re in trouble.

The other positive is they’re form is really pushing us on, im really pleased with our form and points tally, yet exasperated with elements of our play, particularly, physically and at throw ins for and against, its horrific.

I watch all our Sunday games with my dad who has a 45 yr career in managing junior teams and coaching at professional level. It’s so obvious the area’s we can improve but no work seems to be getting done in these areas, so frustrating. I’ve also been involved in football all my life, i literally grew up in dressing rooms from 5 yr old onwards, then played junior and had a son who went through all ages of pro youth and had a 10 yr career in professional football, i know what I’m talking about and can see when a rival is improving, they’re points tally and displays have been impressive all season. That’s why i was on here in the summer wanting more from our board. That’s why i was on here telling posters that Morgan Bollingoli, Bayo, Arzani etc, weren’t good enough. i kept hearing we had this great squad and challenged it every time i seen it. I said it would be the same faces who would try and get us to 9 but even I’ve been surprised how little number of players our manager uses.

You then come on here for an Honest debate about how we’re progressing yet some want to have a dig make snide remarks. It’s so childish, im not a hun, I’ve been assaulted and abused all my life for being what they perceive to be the ultimate enemy a proud unrepentant fenian.

This can be won, of course it can but what would help is if we all demanded our board invest fully, within they’re capabilities. My priorities would be a centre forward, a more physical defensive midfielder, another right sided midfielder and a better left back than we have on our books at present.

The ball is back in your court Peter, your poor choices and management on the playing side has created this need.

  5. An Dun 11.36pm

They have improved …but so have we, I actually think Morelos is a very decent striker (apart from his cheating) but the Refs have treated him with kid gloves all season .. he hasnt changed, he is still kicking out and persistent fouling in every game… take him out of their team against the other teams and you have bog standard SPL players trying their best …

I keep posting this .. we see a different Celtic team in January once the first part off season is gone … again I never want to see a Hun team winning but I think they are keeping us focused (garbage today) but we have January to May to go …. in my opinion they will falter … it’s what they do… not many of them know how to get over the line .. FACT

The old adage, “Past performance is no guarantee of future results,” holds true in football as well as investing. 3 of our next 6 away games are on artificial turf at Killie, Hamilton and Livi, plus Motherwell and Aberdeen. Survive all that unscathed and we can start to feel more optimistic. The question is, “Will Odsonne emerge unscathed?” If he doesn’t, then absent a more than adequate replacement who can start immediately (when has that ever happened?), then I think we are Donald Ducked.

  7. Sid…I’ve never called u hun…but….are you a Peter Lawwell WetDream… lol…I would punt a few…just to freshen things up…but at our core we are a young inexperienced team

Past performance is no guarantee of future results

Should that not also go with the game in hand for the Huns v Ross County ???

Or is that only for Celtic :-)

  9. SID

Very good post. I empathized with it, as I feel the same way about the screamingly obvious areas where we show zero improvement game to game, season to season. I got my SFA coaching badges nearly 40 years ago, and the basics drummed into us then are not being followed by Celtic.

One case in point – in the last couple of days, I watched Leicester- Liverpool and Wolves- Man City. Not once, in 3 hours of football, did I see any team lose possession from their own throw in. Yet we do it repeatedly. In the recent past, we have seen Lustig and Tierney, Hayes and Frimpong, looking pleadingly at their own players, imploring somebody to move. Yet we stand like Subbuteo men, or in Forrest’s case, turn our back. It is maddeningly frustrating. We never see wingers go to the byline at throw ins to stretch the defense and obviate offsides. We have zero variation in corners. I could go on, but you see the point.

  10. I was at the game today and I was of the opinion that the huns deserved their win but that Clancy is a cheat of a referee. I thought Jullien had a very good game against that horrible individual Morelos, who should have been booked earlier in the first half and red carded well before the end. Why was that horrible little Kent allowed to make gestures in front of our fans, after he scored, and wasn’t even spoken to?

We were beaten by a mob who have absolutely no class from top to bottom. We lost a game of football today on the last game of the decade, but what a decade, but are still top of the league. I would take losing the last game of the season to them if we are still 2 points ahead at the end of it.

As a matter of interest here are the stats for today’s game which make interesting reading for those, including myself, who thought the huns deserved their win.

Betting on the Huns beating Ross County is like buying shares in IBM, Apple or Amazon. Your money is guaranteed. The adage means that the fact that you gained, say, 18 per cent three years running, doesn’t mean your return will be the same in the 4th year. (It might be greater)

I don’t mind debating with you, but you do know that you like to quibble?

  12. Dexter P. Bampot on

There are a lot of things about which we need to talk.

    1. Attitude and application.

The cup final provided us with enough warning signs that some things were missing- desire, tempo, momentum.

It was apparent after 10 minutes today that we were not coping with the opposition press and that, bar Brown, there was a lethargy about the team. However, there was time to change things (see below).

    2. Half-time

The mood at the ground was one of relief- that, like the cup final, they couldn’t beat us even when we were mince. This was ill placed arrogance as it tuned out.

However, concerningly in my view, the team emerged without any increased urgency. Minutes 45-50 were completely wasted when we should have been pressing and pushing. Ntcham was out passing the ball about amongst his fellow subs for 15 minutes when we could all see that he, at least, should be coming on. That was ominous. For, when they scored again, there’s was no movement from the bench. I didn’t see Lennon, Kennedy or Duff out to berate the players or even to encourage the players. Additionally there was no immediate move to have subs sent on or even warmed up.

Further, why was the midfield set up not changed much earlier? It was Brown (and to a limited extent McGregor) against 3.

    3. The bench

Why is Leigh getting on before Tam?

How bad does Bolingoli have to be before Johnny Hayes or Greg Taylor get on?

    4. AWOL players

JF was worse than bad. He was anonymous.

RC has gone badly off the boil- and this is nothing to do with the penalty (which Eddy should have taken after RC’s recent miss).

OE- admittedly he didn’t get much of the ball but there was far too much turning into traffic and a lack of shooting- particularly on one occasion in the second half.

JF in particular cannot be a guaranteed starter. He has been poor for quite a while.

Where is Shved?! Ukrainian player of the year and he can’t get on our bench?!

    5. Investment

Clearly, we need a LB. We also should punt Boli. A disaster.

We need a striker. OE cannot be expected to do it on his own.

If NL has given up on Rogic, we need another midfielder with creativity. We had absolutely no cleverness in midfield today.

It’s only HT in the league. We have to play them twice. Both teams will also drop points

However, HT offers a chance to adapt, change and be creative. We should not repeat the mistakes of today’s inaction at HT.

  13. I dearly hope that the players we target in january can play at pace,

we are so slow in our build up its depressing.

  14. Lots of incisive and accurate observations on here tonight. I would like to respond to them, but unfortunately I am aff oot.

Hopefully always enjoyable disagreements … written disagreements are garbage, I was with 3 very good Celtic fans today from all walks of life … unlucky for them I am the common dominator .. in fact they were all at CQN11 … but have no affiliation with the blog ,.. they think it’s full of ……….. face to face disagreements can pass in a matter of seconds … on a blog is different … I am one of the first on here to admit my opinion could be wrong but don’t mind decent disagreements ….

I stool think this Celtic team will do what this Celtic team do … we are now entering a new decade 2020… Neil Lennon has been in charge since February 2019… I think only Livingstone, Cluj (twice one dead rubber) and now Sevco (twice one dead rubber) …. 5 defeats February19–January20…….. statistics are boring at time’s … not sure what age you are but I don’t think in my 49yrs on the planet Celtic have only lost to 3 teams in 11mths while collecting a league title, a Scottish cup, winning a Europa league section with the most points ever in Celtic’s history, a league cup trophy and top of the league …. ah am sure stats can be turned any way you want

Aw right mucker. You seem to be getting your confidence from the fact the Huns haven’t went the distance, that is a fact my friend you are correct. Just like they’ve never won at Celtic Park before, ohh damn, can’t use that one anymore.

The reason they haven’t went the distance is the same reason they have got nowhere near 50 points for 19 games before, because their players have been dot cotton.

This season they managed that impressive tally we have also been impressive and they are effectively 1 point ahead, with game in hand at home against the worst defence in the league.

I agree with An Dun, we have very little room for error with tougher fixtures, no one is saying its not doable.

Several posters thought we’d win comfortable today, can you remember how many predicted the Huns would be mentally scarred and fall apart?

    Iniquitosiv

Exactly, It’s not as if we haven’t been getting punished for it, Boli threw a ball straight to a cluj player he had a shot deflected, corner, goal. Against Hearts and St Mirren, teams at the bottom, on throw ins both teams were considerably better than Celtic, how does that happen when we have better technical players. This must be picked up on video analysis yet, it continues to happen.

  17. hopefully come January we get proper reinforcements as we seriously need them as these players are not really interested

  18. Sid 12.29am

I was meant to be going to ma kip about 2hrs ago

Am always confident about beating any form of the Huns … but not naive enough to realise we can’t always win

My confidence in winning the league is based on the last few seasons … the Huns (like Livvy or Cluj) are more than capable of beating Celtic on any given day … one question

Are you confident that Neil Lennon’s Celtic will win this league ?

    I am

  19. Danso

    So do aye :-)

Neil Lennon was won far more as a manager than any of his rivals in the SPL

Not been the best day … but do some Celtic fans think they should win every game ???

    We don’t ….

I was going to give the blog a miss when the full time whistle went … but stuff that…. win, lose or draw … CQN is a wee release …

I try and take every poster as a Celtic fan because I know for a fact I couldn’t go on a Sevco blog …. but it’s difficult at time’s :-) and in real life I know many unhappy Tim’s but not as bad as some on this dear place ….

    Good night and god bless

    Neil Lennon CSC

  20. Morelos throat slitting gesture.

I’m in the main stand and watched him continuously make the gesture from when he removed his shin guards , to ambling off the field, to be restrained by a Sevco staffer, to eventually going up the tunnel.

    He is utterly reprehensible.

  21. GFTB

At this moment i would say Im not confident, about 50 50.

I’ll have a better idea when the window closes though, we’ll have a new menu to look at, that could be pivotal. The last few seasons doesn’t count, they’ve improved, not relevant to this season.

  22. DUSHANBE BHILLY BHOY on

DUSHANBE BHILLY BHOY , if your still on father wilson

    —–

    Correct.

    Fr. Des…..Great guy.

    I was at his funeral.

  23. When opposition teams attacks break down we are very poor in the transition to out attack. On a few occassions today Fraser Forster held on to the ball ( too long) whilst he checked out the options.

The option in these scenarios should always be ….

kick it or throw it long to Eddie.

You shouldn’t need to look up to find him , he will be in the same spot every time….5 yards in from left touchline crossing the halfway line waving for the ball to be given to him.

We missed this opportunity each time today and Eddie looked frustrated.

Some teams in Germany repeatedly practice transition scenarios with 10 players v 0 opposition.

This ensures that every player recognises the opportunity when it knocks, knows where he should be , what direction he should be running , and what space he should be running to.

Too often today we had player on ball being closed down because nobody was creating space. We have warm weather training, i hope our coaches have some plans.

  24. Our clubs abject failure to call out the continuity myth club will one day come back to bite us. On the football pitch and the touchline we were second best today. PL and DD must be feeling pleased with themselves tonight. Hh

  25. to the eternal shame of our club for reconising them always sevco they can lie but the truth will always out

  26. Not commented in a long long time on here

But I will say this neil Lennon was spot on with his post match comments we could have won that game on another day

1 they are not as good as they think they are

2 this is a mid season fixture no trophy today

3 when was the last time they won an important game v peterhead I think

4 elyanossi and el hamed will make a great difference

5 we will buy big in Jan now I’m sure

6 they are a threat see 1 also lol

  27. Wow – it had to come, a defeat @ home frae the new Rangers.

    I’ll keep it brief.

I’m in 401 and we see so much in the 2nd half usually. Please Every Celt Ban Bobbles on hats, it takes mair viewing away from the person in a row behind you.

All Vendors stop the Bobble hats for Petes sake.

Jeremie Frimpongs confidence went for a while because James Forrest decided to hide for the whole time I witnessed the game in the 2nd half. wee Jamesie going into places where there is nae way yer gettin the ba’ unless yer nutmeg King Ding a ling.

Right Winger – I mean a belter in January is a must, and January the 1st.

Why are we hoarding players that just urnae up to it?

Move them on even if it means taking a hit

That a young 19 Year old was left abandoned like that by an experienced player was shocking IMO.

There is nae way the experienced player can play @ Ibrox. We need warriors for there, the smarter the better.

Lenny you have to be ruthless man,

I won’t comment on the first half because my eyesight isnae good but hey I’ll gie it a go with performances.

  28. Never forget. This is a New Rangers. They are a good team that has been built up very well IMO.
