  1. I wonder if BR has underestimated Rosenborg here. Maybe given that they only beat Dundalk after ET. It seems, with hindsight, that to take on the Norwegian champions who are now half way through their season without a recognised striker (despite having Aitchison and Cifti available) is quite disrespectful.

Last night was shambolic. Broony continually passed the ball to Lustig. After the 5th time I was asking why as it led to nothing. Yet he continued to do this throughout the game. In Lustig’ s defense he had absolutely nothing to aim at. We looked absolutely clueless at corner kicks and throw ins.

It will be very interesting to see what BR does it Griff doesn’t make it next week.

0-0 is arguably a better result than 2-1? Really?

Had we won 2-1 last night, a scoreless draw over in Norway would mean we’re through.

As things stand at 0-0, the same outcome over there would mean Rosenborg having another 30 minutes of home advantage, not forgetting the advantage they already have in match-fitness,and, if it’s still scoreless after that, it’s the lottery of penalties.

So, I don’t see any argument that 2-1 wouldn’t have been a better result for us.

Unless the Zombies were right about draws at Celtic Park being glorious victories!

Come on mate, the idea that BR and his team would underestimate another team at this crucial stage of season seems a bit far fetched seeing how professional they are in their approach to the game of association football..

Celtic will win in Norway. Rosenborg missed their chance to take full control of this tie. Some of our away performances last season were better than our home performances, for various reasons.

Yeah, really. Away and do some learning and research on the dynamics or European football.

I think Griffs absence last night was actually damaging in more ways than the obvious ones.

We lacked a fulcrum for our attacks, and obviously missed his goalscoring abilities.

Imo the biggest miss was his dead ball abilities. We had seven corners, none of which threatened the Rosenborg goal. I had to listen to the game on Radio Shortbread, so don’t know how well positioned our free kicks were to have a go, but as we know the wee man is a danger from any position within 30 yards of goal.

Sinclair and Armstrong’s delivery from corners and free kicks, with a few exceptions, is bang average.

Hopefully Leigh is fit for next week. If he is, our chances of progressing further in to the tournament, are greatly increased.

    Desperate stuff this morning.

    Oh woe is me…..

    Brendan may have underestimated ?

    We need competitive friendlies ?

We played a team who are fitter and sharper, it’s a consequence of poor Scottish performances. It’s gonna continue.

Thanks for the choice of study topics, but I’d rather hear your argument that 0-0 is better than 2-1. Shouldn’t be difficult if you’ve studied both dynamics and European football.

Or maybe your aggressive reply is based on you realising you’re talking pish!

Boyata is our biggest threat in the box from corners, also missing.

Everything just seemed to align to make it an uncomfortable night for us.

Thankfully things change very quickly in football and I expect us to get it right next week.

  10. I do sincerely hope Celtic do get through but last night was a performance that I thought was not possible from a BR team at home.

Short memory Dessy.Last season we struggled badly in mid season at Celtic Park against such mighties as Hamilton,Thistle, etc.I think we had a run of 1 goal victories after huffing and puffing for 90 minutes.Sometimes 11 men defending well works. In the games I mentioned,in the last 15 we were hanging on.Nerves took over.

Wonder if Cifti will feature at the weekend.

    He should,along with young Jack.

  12. Competitive friendlies – I am sure last year we were criticising the club for chasing the £ and for taking part in the international champions cup or such.

    Cannae win really

  13. Deary me,they are all on today.Did Brendan underestimate Rosenborg?A 2-1 home win is better than a 0-0 home draw.

James Forrest,I agree the atmosphere around the club at the moment, stinks.

  14. Turkeybhoy

I cant remember the team make up for those games, but all teams win games 1.0 from time to time, you cant cruise every SPL game, ok my point was too general I accept that, must be my age, last night was a bit of a shock in that an organised average team were the most threatening at Celtic Park, injuries are going to hinder us in this part of the season if we do sign someone how fit will they be, a 3 week break for some and others prefering to play for Scotland than get rested after a heavy club season, did we look unfit, tired, lacking in stamina, was there a method of play that was going to create chances, Celtic played as if they were trying to get match fit, however it was an extremely important game that at present the team are not ready to compete in, I hope a week further down the line improves things as it did with Aberdeen who were in a worse position having drawn their home tie in the EL.

One thing that’s for sure after last night is that Tom Rogic won’t be playing up front again☘️

    ===========

He should have been switched to the right side to drive infield at their defence, Roberts style.

Forrest was driving inside but has no left peg so was very restricted.

Even when Forrest didnt cut inside and managed to hit the byline, with no strikers there was no one making the instinctive runs for the ball.

A good manager is always learning about his team. We have a good manager.

    The Timreaper.

    —-

I said arguably, the reason being how bad our away record is. Obviously every team would rather win than draw.

It comes down to the way both teams will approach the game psychologically. They will be paranoid about losing an away goal, more than they would be trailing 2-1. On the other hand we have a tragic away record, mostly down to not knowing whether to stick or twist from our normal playing style when holding a lead. See Beer Sheva and Malmo for details. Having the knowledge that any goal we score will hurt them badly will inspire confidence, it gives us an extra edge. It’s why top coaches all over Europe shut up shop when playing at home with 20 minutes to go when the tie is goalless. If Mourinho was our manager last night he would have put Bitton on after 70 minutes and killed the game.

  17. Outside of the “top” leagues CL qualification is a lottery. We have the same discussion here every summer. The reality is these games come to us before our season even begins giving teams like Rosenberg, Astana, Quarbag etc a punchers chance of knocking us out which for a club of our size is a disaster and I think that UEFA has is starting in an unfavorable position due to the poor reputation of our league. Sad but true, we need a big performance from our team next week on what is effectively still our close season. Can we do it, yes I think we can. I expect Brendan and Chris will have a clear game plan after last nights game☘️

  18. Thetimreaper

That’s all I was asking for, what your argument is!

However, you must admit it’s pretty tenuous. For example, you talk about the team knowing any goal will hurt them badly, thus inspiring confidence, but it would hurt them even more if it were putting us 2 goals ahead in the 2-1 scenario.

At 2-1, they would have to score or they’re out. As things stand, they don’t. Except in a shoot-out, of course.

Apologies for the needless reference to urine.

0-0 is a funny one when it comes to European matches. I think it will make them a wee bit more cautious. As I said it’s more psychological than anything else.
