  1. As we all know, the defence at the moment is the MAIN problem.

I can’t remember the last time the opposition were suspect to offside. Would it be worth trying a high line for defence?

When did O’ halloran get sent off?

83rd minute for a bad foul i.e he did fek all.

  3. Cheers Vogue…………

I’ve green tinted specs with the optional emerald frames…………….but an awful lot happens that prevents a hun-upset in most of thur games……….

    We were never paranoid enough!

  4. A lot of focus has been on Lenny

Who has stated he doesn’t doing tactics and coaching

    So

Why is there limited focus on Kennedy and Strachan, who are responsible for the team coaching

What a major drop in that area for a team, that had a previous structure and playing system, whereby we were hard to breakdown

Did Damien Duff hold the coaching structure together last season

This season it appears to have fallen off a cliff 🤔

  5. I’d imagine the views on managerial succession are largely cohesive across the broad vistas of Celtica………………….

Making it happen in an appropriate manner might be more taxing,

    .

  6. NorrieM

As manager I’d be asking Kennedy and Strachan the same question. But if I was Lenny I wouldn’t cos I’ve already admitted I know feck all about tactics in the first place.

  7. In fact….is there not a video out there where Lenny asks Kennedy what happened there and Kennedy basically ignores the question

“A lot of focus has been on Lenny

Who has stated he doesn’t doing tactics and coaching”

This is an Urban Myth- he said no such thing.

Here’s something I wrote on Sentinel Celts about this

    —————————————————–

In recent discussions on here, Neil Lennon has attracted some adverse criticism for trying to express a view that the importance of tactics is often over-emphasised by the fans and how he delegates some aspects of tactical and team shape implementation to his deputy coaches. He was even described as a football dinosaur for this view.

So I thought I would look to another successful coach to see if his attitudes towards tactics in coaching was more reverential than Neil’s. I picked on Jurgen Klopp but I am quite willing to have a look at what others are saying about the topic, in any future follow up.

So, I just watched the Football Focus mini-documentary on Klopp’s journey as a coach. Right at the start, Klopp said something like “You cannot win matches without some tactics……(he points at his head indicating the word “knowledge” but he does not speak it)……..but far more important is emotion”

In a separate article I read Pepijn Linders, his assistant, stating “Jurgen creates a family. We always say: 30 per cent tactic, 70 per cent teambuilding,”

German football writer, Ali Hesse, says “What Klopp likes is when things get out of control, because at that point it is all about emotion, about passion, and at that point it comes down to how much you want it. This is when Klopp’s teams are at their best. Klopp creates the situation in the game where it is no longer about tactics, but about getting stuck in and making tackles,”

He has received criticism from some for overworking his players, causing injuries but Andy Massey. head of Medical Services at Liverpool, said ““Jurgen’s philosophy is very much that we’ve got to run further, run faster, run quicker than every other team because if we can do that then the skill will take over.

So we’ve got to put the players in a position where they can do that. When Jurgen first came into the club, we tried to put that in there, but the boys weren’t up to that physical level yet to meet the demands.

At one stage, we had 13 hamstring injuries but now, with the benefit of two pre-seasons, we’re seeing the boys work so much harder and they look like they’re more protected.”

I can’t help but wonder How sentences like these would be parsed and interpreted had they come from Neil Lennon, our coach/ football dinosaur?

Klopp himself has a view on that.

When talking about going back on his word and buying Alisson for big money after denouncing the Man U Pogba transfer fee as obscene, he said:-

“That’s the problem these days. Whatever bulls**t you say, nobody will forget it. On the other side, it is still kind of true. I couldn’t imagine the world would change like that from two-and-a-half years ago.

“One hundred million was a crazy amount of money. Since then the world has changed completely and we have signed the most-expensive goalkeeper and all that stuff.

“We don’t care what the world around us is thinking, like Man United didn’t care about what I said. It’s only an opinion in that moment.

“Did I change my opinion? Yes. That’s true. But it’s better to change your opinion than never have one.

“Whatever people say about that and bring it up again and again, I have had worse days in my life and worse things. I am fine with that. We have the players we wanted. I am fine with that.”

  9. Dozens of votes in already, thank you. Please all feel free to join in – 1 email with 3 names to me at CQNPOTY@GMAIL.COM. Results out at 10pm on Christmas Eve and I’ll re-post them at 2.30pm(ish) on St Stephen’s Day, half an hour before we play Hamilton.

  10. 31003

There was a clip of the two coaches durig a match where we were losing (forget which one) where Lenny said something (nobody knows what) and Kennedy kind of shrugged.

It ags been interpreted as an example of caoching rivalry and jealousy, imgining that Lenny asked for advice and John refused to give it or pretended not to have an answer.

    It was fanciful nonsense.

It is just as likely that Neil asked John “Do te think that’s oor jobs fone, now then?” and John’s shrug Says “Your Guess is as good as mine”

It’s amazing how the Urban Myth builds up among the Body Language experts Community

  11. Neil Lennon has never said he knows nothing or doesn’t give tactical instruction.

This is simply not true. He did say less emphasis though giving players more space to be footballers.

If you ever watched Neil play for us- you’ll know he reads the game very well as did most of our fotballers then.

I think the error may be expecting players to to read the game and ajust like players used to (and were allowed to)

Modern players, it appears like repetitive drills and told where to be all the time. IMHO

  12. MARTIM1980

    Very good post.

    Rodgers, Pep, Jose and Klopp.

Continually shout and direct players during a game.

  13. 32 emails now in and only 3 votes separating the leading 3 and 9 different players already receiving votes. I mean, how exciting can this be? ;-)

    Thanks for answering

I’m kinda playing devil’s advocate there, but, seriously,

our defence, recently, has been woeful.

If I was manager/head coach with a dodgy defence I’d definitely try anything to put the brakes on the slide.

When we attack the whole team moves forward as a unit. So far so good.

When we lose the ball the whole team moves back as a unit, but back to far.

We are normally defending against a one attacker breakaway yet move back as a unit to the 18 yard line, basically inviting their entire team to move forward the way we do.

Defend at the halfway line when they get the ball then their lone striker has a whole half pitch ( if that makes sense) to firstly receive, control, then run with the ball. Then he has to beat our keeper. Put a Laxalt or similar, a defender with pace, central to defence when we are attacking to negate their pacy lone striker, and I think we’d let in less goals and have more forward momentum.

Corners aside, defend set pieces on the 18 yard line. You won’t get a Naismith barging our goalie at the least and their forward(s) will go offside more often than not

  15. MARTIM1980

I stand to be corrected, (as the man said in the orthopaedic shoes) but I’m SURE I seen a clip where Lenny says he’s not big on tactics. I could be wrong though

  16. Another assist for Martin Boyle tonight- We should be watching closely on Saturday at the debt dome.

If he plays well then we should sign him and play him on the 2nd.

And if PL and NL are not doing everything possible to sign Forster on the 1st Jan they are not doing their jobs right.

Dembele wasn’t playing again for Lyon tonight and I know there is not much chance but we should ask Lyon for a 5 month loan and waive the sell on fee.

If we get beat at Ibrox it’s finished, and the way we’re playing we have no chance, so something big that gives the place a lift is a must imo.

Anyway, nothing matters unless we beat Accies.

  17. Martim1980

    One other thing

Through this past rubbishy 2 months, have you seen the team set up (formation aside) change that made you think, “ ah good, this’ll work”?

  18. Frimpong is not a RB IMO.he is a winger and thought he had a good game.

John Hughes changed it a bit in the second half had Frimpong covered a lot more than the first half.

We are still slack at the back but i think MJ will help i like the way he takes players on.

Again i remember BR saying we have plenty wingers……….where are they

    Happy with the result…………3 points.👍

That’s a plea condition on behalf of the broadcasters, telly Convid . Not one meaningful word will be audible or interpreted. Pure theatre.

  20. If a manager gets sacked, it’s down to him,not his coaches,if he didn’t want Kennedy or Strachan, he should have said but it was a fait acompli…..

  21. SFTB

Very interesting interview from Klopp, however not withstanding a better quality of player that 30 % is still highly significant. They look far better coached and organised, night and day. Our throw ins a problem for over a year now was comical on Sunday. My dad was prompting me, watch how easy Hearts get out of being boxed in from throw ins deep in their defensive third. We struggled almost every time, Hearts had no problems with lesser players seriously our coaching is horrific. We are so soft as a team, we don’t even claim for anything, did you recognise the difference in noise from the Hearts bench and Celtic bench on Sunday? I noticed it for 120 minutes.

Three wins is most welcome and Soro and Turnbull fix one of our problems, we still have defensive and forward problems but more significantly, we have what I class our top players Edouard, McGregor, Christie, Julien all playing at a fraction of their capabilities.

It kinda feels like how a prisoner on death row might feel, the fatal blow is coming you just don’t have an official date yet.

  22. The players are good enough. They’ve proved it over the past few years. It can only be the formations or tactics. There’s only one person who should influence that

  23. Tonyrome- tried topping up the boiler pressure as I have done in years gone by, but whatever this fecker has done it’s not working.

    D :)

  24. What i have seen is players not winning their personal battles. Admittedly i believe the idea is they are not fixed to “classic” positions, moving into the holes in an attempt to not being heavily marked thereby it’s less “one on one” I do think we make adjustments to adapt to different teams and pitches, however, not sure some of our players adapt well. That’s just how I see it though. Any tactical balance or “comfort” in terms of momentum lost it seems when injuries hamper consistent selection.

  25. Is anybody else wondering where the Laxalt we seen in his first few games has gone. He looked brilliant and now looks no better than Taylor.

    Your chosen analogy is sickening.

  27. Threesie

So who is the coach-coaches, we keep hearing that Kennedy is crap cos we are losing goals and he is our defensive coach, as far as I know he is a coach, just a coach who is held in high esteem by the players, could be bollix, who knows, I also did like yersel coaching badges, didn’t get to your levels but I have half a brain when it comes to coaching, pity that the other half is mince but it is what it is, anyways, we are Pish [copy} FSC, there is no cohesion, none whatsoever, we are a team of individuals who don’t have a scooby what they are supposed to be doing, that is down to the head coach, he is in control of everything, from fitness, education, motivation, tactics etc etc, imo he is failing big time, we have gone from a team that was winning with ease to a team that we are all wondering and worrying if we will win, that is not the Celtic that I know, Lenny is the one in control of the team, end of.

Have as good a Christmas as they allow you to have

Really, sounds like your being a drama queen, a snowflake. I was speaking, metaphorically, figurative speech, I think a reader with sense would understand.

  29. TET

I agree with what you’re saying

The players have proved, in the pat, that they’re good enough.

If Lenny is leaving it to Kennedy and Strachan to do the coaching, tactics and fitness/training, he should be sacking them. If he is a good manager and nothing else that’s what he should do. The fact he isn’t and the fact he leaves everything else up to them tells me he’s not.

    Something has to give.

Presently our “tactics” on the whole aren’t working.

    CHANGE THEM

  30. For me, the result tonight was WHOLLY down to the players giving 100%

That works with a Ross County

That won’t work with a SEVCO

We need a game plan to go WITH that 100% commitment
