    Great to see Griffiths getting a start, pity we didn’t also start Scepovic.

     

     

    Hopefully we get the game tied up and let young Tierney get a run out at some point, excellent left sided player.

    No aggression intended. This is my relaxed face – :>/

     

     

    Johansen is Ronnie’s pick because he favours a 4-2-3-1 ‘pressing’ side that relies on the opposition defence making mistakes that can be seized upon – Johansen is his man to do that.

     

     

    The problem is, not all sides are Ross County/St Mirren. Some defences needs to be prised apart more skillfully, and Ronnie’s system isn’t going to work on them.

     

     

    We’ve seen that time and again with Legia, Maribor, and the two other decent sides in the Scottish premiership.

     

     

    Commons is not as good behind one striker as he is behind two (we saw that under Lennon as well as Deila), and he certainly won’t bomb about like Johansen.

     

     

    My point is we had a much more effective system under Lenny – the 4-4-2 diamond – in which we conceded fewer goals, scored more, and won more games. Football can be bafflingly simple at times.

     

     

    Look at today’s team – Griffiths gets the start some have been calling for, but does Ronny play him up front alongside Johansen? No. He’s out on the right, in the ‘modern’ 4-2-3-1. It’s the formation that won’t die.

     

     

    But it’s Ross County, so, barring a doomsday event, it’ll go unnoticed.
