Celtic will be playing at home first, the dates are staggered in the next round as well, so the ties won’t all be played on the same weeks.

Definitely off to bed now but doubt I will get much sleep. :))

    What a night.

  2. …….Was it because everybody was ganging up on him?

No, because he is such a dignified gentleman, he realised he was the cause of much consternation among the CQN Faithful. And with OUR best interests at heart, decided to gracefully say nothing at all. In a kinda Ogilviesque stylee.

    Aww bless.

Tests show Messi only carried off so he could watch the end of the Celtic game.

    lol lol lol

  4. Ntassoolla – it’s late and I’m tired but can you explain how the money jumps from 12 million to 27 million euros. What is the prize pot/market pool money you refer to?

A huge thanks to Neil Lennon and all the players

    Well done bhoys

    A galant effort

  6. Just logged on to say Pure Dead Brilliant by my team reaching the last 16.Noticed Izzy getting some stick about some remark he made about our friendly hun Edward. Not sticking up for him but I must say I am baffled why a hun would waste his time posting on a Celtic blog

  7. Ive calmed down a lttle and getting refective.

Tonight was up there with beating Leeds at Hampden.

My neighbours have all had a free ear wax cleaning.

I don’t think we should be grateful we made the last 16.

    We deserve it

Neil and his backroom team set their goals and tactics for every game to give us a chance to progress with the young team and resources at our disposal.

Remember we only lost to Barca in the Nou Camp as a result of a sickening late goal.

    So

Be bold and face the draw with confidence.

Personally I fancy ur chances against Psg or Man United.

As thy used to chant in the Palais at the Easterhouse Shuffle

    Bring them all on.

  8. Evening all

what a night, what club, what an achievement!!

to some of the comments earlier:

if Brown could shoot he would be a top player? He should be scoring double figures per season, not the most gifted but he inspires those around him. He is what he is.

Eminike is a terrific player, could we afford him?

That’s wonderful. Every SPL team gets 500,000 – and guess who don’t cause they’re no’ there?

Very refreshing to read very little complaint about the officiating.

Malaga are not a bad side. PSG? Even though they have Ibrahimovich up front, he’s be a handful, and i’m sure i would be dead before the 90mins because of Ambrose’s antics

TBH matey i would take any one in the last 16 never thought we would do it, and no before you ask i don’t work for ITV :)

  13. I vowed last night never to read this site again, having read the despicapable, racist diatribe from the abhorrent Kojo.

I promised that I would never get myself worked up by apologists like the last saloon.

I post now to say congratulations to the Hoops. Thanks to S.F.T.B. and Cultsbhoy; John Irving would be proud.

But for now, scrolling through is just not worth it, if I have to subject myself to such B.N.P. bollocks.

    Bye.

  14. During the summer I was on holiday in Andaluzia. Went to Malaga several times, lovely town, done the stadium tour, told the guide i’d see him again in CL. Told my sons as we sat having a few refreshments and tapas in a small bar on the corner of alameda principal and calle marquis de larios that we’d return for tapas should we meet Malaga in CL. Was thinking qualifiers, or at best group stage, never thought for a second we could be there in knock out stage.

So- Embdy else want a shot? Or are you finished now that the hun you’re defending has buggered off?

watch you don’t trip over your lip on the way out! ;)))

  17. Just in from the game. Let me just say……………

    YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

Spartak were excellent first half, thought we were really lucky to go in front and the big man up top for them gave Ambrose a torrid time all night. Much better second half though I really thought we weren’t going to do it.

Then sure enough we get a pen and Commons does his best to miss it lol. Fair crapped myself when I saw it hit the bar! Thank god it went in!

London calling at full time was epic lol!

    Brilliant, absolutely brilliant celtic!!

  18. On such a fantastic night for Celtic, I’m flabbergasted that one or two posters are showing such a lack of class and trying their best to divert the blog. Very troll-like in my opinion.

Just enjoy the night for goodness sake.

It’s the truth. Qualifying from the easiest group in Champions League history is no achievement. You know it and I know it.

    ============

    Hurtin huns

    ++++

Only Chelsea (as title holders) were seeded higher than Barca. Only Valencia higher than Benfica in pot 2. 4 clubs higher than Spartak in pot 3. And none higher than Celtic in pot 4.

Using Chelsea’s top seeding as place one and FC Nordsjaelland as 32, here is the totals for each group’s ranking of teams in it this season, followed by the totals of the top three pot teams (depicts how hard it is for 4th seed to qualify). Note: lower is more difficult

    Group A: 7+16+22+28= 73     45

    Group B: 6+13+17+31= 67     36

    Group C: 8+12+19+30= 69     39

    Group D: 5+14+18+26= 63     37

    Group E: 1+11+20+32= 64     32

    Group F: 4+9+23+27= 63     36

    Group G: 2+10+21+25= 58     33

    Group H: 3+15+24+29= 71     42

Statistically, Celtic’s group was the hardest group of this year’s competition overall and second hardest for the 4th seed to qualify from.

Barca, Benfica and Spartak only being bettered by Chelsea, Juve and Shakhtar because I used the Title holder seeding and not the Uefa Rankings, which would have had Barca as top team and Chelsea 3rd.

I’ve looked through other seasons and it’s rare to find essentially the highest (coeff) ranking teams from two pots, the second highest and a mid-placed one in the same group.

Statistically speaking, and only based on the placements of the pot seedings, Celtic were really in one of the hardest groups in the Champions League over the last ten years. Using the actual team rankings (the one where Celtic started the season in 63rd place and a pretty decent barometer to measure how good teams actually are), our group looks even harder…

    124 places (Barca 1st + Benfica 14th + Spartak 46th + Celtic 63rd)

compared to the next best in the pot seedings…

    233 places (Chelsea 3rd + Shakhtar 16th + Juve 43rd + FC Nordsjælland 171st)

compared to group A (seeded easiest)…

    170 places (Porto 9th + Kiev 31st + PSG 48th + Zagreb 82nd)

compared to Group D (Man Citeh’s group of fail and judged truly difficult)…

    133 places (Madrid 5th + Citeh 28th + Ajax 35th + Dortmund 65th)

By whichever objective measure, Celtic were most certainly in one of, if not the hardest group this season.

  20. Far East commodities markets are preparing for a run on biscuit tins, after Peter Lawell read the projected revenue / prize money being discussed on CQN.

  21. Izzy,

You said something silly & offensive.

That is not a hanging offence. Most posters have had bad nights.

However, you have now been told by people who have read Edward’s post for years. They have assured you that the guy is a thoroughly decent football man.

He has been asked all those questions that you are asking & has answered them openly & honestly.

Do yourself a favour & forget about it.

    Good luck.
