  1. I haven`t read a sufficient number of posts to award Post of the Day to the estimable JG but this post used excellent humour to sum up my feelings about the referee`s performance today.

If StJ had had a man sent off, they’d have been down to 11″

I have rarely been so angry at the performance of an Official. Was it in anyway connected to Sevco looking likely to gainithree points? As a good guy in front of me said. We can expect an `awful` lot more of this stuff if the Huns keep winning.

  2. TET,

I dont think its too much to ask that we put out a stronger team

than we did today, plenty people said even before the game started that

7 changes seemed too many to be making, unfortunately they were proved right,

Of course we could pick up injuries but that can happen in any game,at any time,

indeed it can often happen in training,so do we wrap players up in cotton wool til Thursday.

My priority this year is the league,a decent run in the Europa is a bonus,

3 points today was more important to me than a result on Thursday

  3. In your wildest dreams. Mother from Donegal gets son to fill in ESTA . Doesn’t check form for status until tonight. Travel denied. Bus booked to Dublin at midnight to pick up early morning flight tomorrow,New York then onward to Boston.

Dozy son filled in form stating that she had alcohol and drug problems.

Panic then more panic. Finally resolved from the US and Ireland and she can now travel.

Still: All’s well that ends well. Thank f@ck he’s not a Celtic supporter.

  4. TET

    Agreed.

My 1st game was in 1965 just before the Cup final and I never knew anything other than great success for 10 years at home and in Europe. The late 70s and 89s were ok domestically but disappointing in Europe and the 90s were a nightmare. We have regained domestic dominance since 2000 despite the cheating from Ibrox and Hampden. Brendan is trying to regain a measure of success in Europe and if that means dropping some league points to the likes of St Johnstone, so be it.

  5. GFTB

    Aye, it’s always the same.

Funny thing is, many bitch when we don’t blood the weans, others moan when we play our best team and they get injured in a game that they could be rested in, others want us to compete at the highest level yet when we drop a few players for an up coming euro game and we drop points they squeal it’s not good enough.

I find today’s supporter or fan a very different breed to the ones I remember from my younger days, I used to travel down on the Aberdeen bus every week home and away for years, when the bus didn’t run I even thumbed a lift to games and I can honestly say that when we didn’t win, there was none of the we deserve better pish that I read about today, maybes if we had had the internet it would have been different, who knows.

But as has been said, everyone has a right to voice their opinion, as I am to mine and if I am of the opinion that they are entitled, so be it.

Oh, and I don’t hold with the I am a season book holder so I have any more right bollix, if I lived in sectarianland I would have one, I also, even tho I have threatened to withdraw funds from the club, contribute a few bob to the club each year, even if I didn’t, I would still have the right to my opinion.

In a few games BR has put out a wholesale changed team and blown the oppo away, he has imo the right to think that todays team would do that.

The fact you think todays game is more important than thursdays is I would very much doubt a thought in BR’s mind, if we were struggling in the league I would agree with you, we are NINE, that would be 9 points ahead, and if teams take points off each other they way that they have been doing, we will win the league if we win four-five games, that would be the league wrapped up with 6-7 games to spare, even if we win on goal difference, that would do for me, as long as we win, and we will, some folks really need to get a grip, aye you included :-)

Why did these changes only ` seem` too many?

How do you know `they ` were proved right?

Is dropping points in a game proof that `they` were right?

IF we go on to win another Treble , will `they ` still have been `right` ?

    Goodnight all.

  11. mmmm

5 games in 13 days – 2 euro and 3 league. According to some we should be playing today’s team on Thursday and playing our top players today and next Sunday. Really?

Some think we should play our top players in all 5… Wonder if they might be knackered at some point?

Our nearest challenger scored nil points on Saturday. Would that have been on manager’s mind?

Today, at home is the best option to play under strength. St J form the poorest.

So, who should play against Aberdeen next Sunday?

Beaton was magnificent in bending the rules today. A masterclass for any ref looking to influence but maintaining a margin of doubt.

I was there today. I have no complaints about my team, manager or players…

  12. Attending three or four games a season with kids costs as much as having a season book. That’s just the money that goes direct to the club in tickets and merchandise etc

    Supporter/ fan?

It’s a touch patronising to the many folks who support from a distance to be honest.

    No apology for butting in.

  13. Hot Smoked,

You are correct ,no one knows if a full strength team would have won today,

to me,and i said before the game 7 changes seemed too many to make,

not sure if you disagree with my use of the word seem, maybe i should express myself better,

would you not agree that putting out a stronger team would have increased our chances of winning the game?

    Just read your post

My Celtic very rarely won, when we did it was magic bit when we didn’t I didn’t ever feel much different, being s Celtic fan was about Celtic not winning or losing ??? Maybe am getting older an no wider I still think best night was when Raith Rovers ? Beat us at Ibrox whit a night in Scruffy Murphys and then at Easter road on the Tuesday “you will never walk alone Paul” that’s my Celtic :-)

    Entitled.

I’ve seen that word bandied about tonight. In a pejorative context by Tims who frankly I’d expect more of.

    We are entitled.

    We are all entitled.

To 10IAR which will serve as justice and reparations for all the cheated and stolen titles rhatcwent to make up the FOD’s equalling of Celtic’s (should have been) peerless achievement.

We have a unique opportunity to do so. Our advantages on and off the field are unprecedented. To not take this unique opportunity would be tragic.

  16. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Evening All.

We were way off the mark today, and while St Johnstone fought well, at times they were down right ridiculous with their pulling and shoving much of which was totally ignored by Mr Beaton. Even with what was almost a third string we should have been good enough to carve better openings than we did, and we should have seen them off.

Anyway, of far greater importance was taking in the game with Malorbhoy and even more importantly Megan, El Diego Bhoy’s younger daughter.

I recall a very heartfelt and tearful discussion with Jim while sitting in the north stand. It was not long after his beloved wife had died and he was absolutely heartbroken. I tried to gee him up with stories about some mad nights in Akram’s Hot Spot in Dumbarton as I knew he had gone there in his youth, only to find that it was there he met the future Mrs EDB – and of course that would send him off into a tearful story or two.

As I got to know JIm I found him very open and very considerate and caring. He didn’t mince his words and wasn’t shy in coming forward with an opinion and when he learned that my own marriage had ended several years before he made it plain that he found that very sad. He was full of questions after that: Did I have a knew partner? Why did I not have a new partner?

He was very firm in the view that everyone should have someone to love and be loved by, and for God knows how long he would keep asking me “Any sign of a love life?” lol. Some would have found his line intrusive, I fet it was just Jim. He was a very caring man and a very good man.

It was great to see Megan looking well, being very funny and having no respect whatsoever for her elders when it came to taking the mickey – and that is how it should be.

I miss her dad though on days like today though I can hear him shouting “Oh for goodness sake!” and “That’s just ridiculous Celtic!”

Rest Easy EDB — though your spirit is never far away and I still hear you giving me advice, whether I wanted it or not! lol

If anyone is interested in the One Night in Lisbon Dinner on Friday 25th May 2018 at the Kerrydale Suite just give me a shout.

  17. TET,

Given our last 2 performances we look as likely as others to drop points,

i too will be happy to win the league by goal difference if it comes to it,

just think we are making it harder than it should be

  18. GB64

For sure, we are not flying like we all hope we would be, the game on thursday was wonderful, as I said earlier, BR would have thought that the team he put out today was good enough to win, had we had an honest referee, I reckon we would have.

A couple of months ago, in amongst my inane ramblings on this site, I made a post about Celtic FC and its fans being a social movement.

It got a few reactions at the time and that wise old owl Auldheid told me to keep a note of the post as I may want to refer to it one day.

Of course, I am a young whippersnapper and so I paid the Auldheid absolutely no heed whatsoever!

So, it is with absolutely no shame whatsoever I ask if anyone else can remember the post and did anyone keep a copy of it, or mark it or is there some way to trace it – because strangely enough I might want to refer to it.

And when I grow up I will know now not be so foolish in the future and that I should listen to wise old men when they make a point and act upon their wisdom?

Nobody in their right mind would forsake our league title for a decent run or even a win in that Europa league thing.

Possibly so, if we weren’t on the way to the 10, but not this season.

    Champions League?

    100%.

Different story altogether, but hypothetical as we have long since been eliminated from said competition.

If we had won today and went eleven clear at the top of the table, I wouldn’t be posting this.

The league and cup should be our main focus.

Double Treble, 10IAR and what not.
