My dad is 89. His all time favourite was Malcolm McDonald.
He loved Jinky and Bobby Murdoch but he thought Jimmy Delaney was better than Jinky and Willie Fernie was better than Bobby.
He never liked Bobby Evans due to him getting so many Scotland caps when we had, in his mind, better Scottish players playing for us, who rarely got capped.
My top five in particular order,
Danny
Henrik
The Maestro
Lubo
Tommy
Five I was too young to appreciate
Davie Hay
George Connolly
Bobby Murdoch
Stevie Murray
Harry Hood ( mainly as the Harry Hood had the best song the fans sung for a player)

When he was playing as sweeper he was magnificent.
I can remember being at the front of the Jungle as we attacked the Celtic end – wee Jinky was at outside right and time after time George could pick him out with passes from 30-40 yards away that would arrive perfectly for Jinky to move forward. All the time making it look so easy – that’s why he was the guy that I wanted to be. I was at the 1973 Cup Final where we were robbed by the ref( like that’s never happened before!) George equalised at 2-2 with a penalty- Greig stopped a Dixie effort on the line – no sending off in those days BTW- usual delaying tactics from the Huns – but George just waited – ice cool as ever and sent the keeper the wrong way! Then he picked out wee Jinky who I swear chipped a Hun and went on to score – only to be given Offside!!!!

To think that any other player could have been in the Lisbon team is a practical impossibility, obviously.
Therefore, there is no other player worthy of displacing those twelve men who represented us on that day.

100% correct. You, sir, are an empiricist and scientist practitioner of the highest order.
Of course, the corollary holds just as well too. There is NO EVIDENCE to suggest Celtic will do badly in the Europa League…Absolutely none…”

My first SC final/ Deidco game. . . Jinky was never offside, I could see that from 100 yards behind him through a slight gap in the shoulders in front of me. I’ll never forget Kenny’s cracking opening goal, or Jaws’ incredible attempt at missing from 18 inches.
Didn’t Big Caesar hold up 8 fingers defiantly when picking up his medal at the end? Or did I imagine that?

Lubo, Hendrik, and if I had had the pleasure of watching him James McGrory would be the main man.

Not many players who conjure up an instant image of a passage of play in one particular game when their name is mentioned, but say McStay, and I see that pass inside the Deidco full-back to Chris Morris.
Anybody got a similar image when Stevie Chalmers’ name is mentioned??

Think that you are correct!
It was a special anniversary cup final – 100 year since the first had been held but not the 100th due to the wars. Some minor royal turn up and since it was also 100 years of the Huns – the deck was definitely stacked against us!
Crap horrible day – weather wise – remember almost continual warfare all the way back in to the city centre!
Old school Tims didn’t take losing lying down!
Days like that made them dying in 2012 so much sweeter!

Croppybhoy, the UNICEF game against Benfica at Celtic Park in December 1974.
George played passes, as you described, to Jimmy at least three times, perfect for jimmy, in the above game.
George along with Brian McLauglin , would and should have been , two of our greatest players.
I was at the game with my dadagainst Clyde when that big runt, Willie McVey, caught Brian with what would be a straight red card tackle.
Two trolls in the room at the same time.
