  1. Was at the Celtic Ghirls’ game today with my grand daughter – agree with most of the comments made about the game itself and the truly exciting (and devastating for the Huns) finale.

What no-one has mentioned is the display of the Moron in Blue in the middle of the park. He penalised our players EVERY time he could, gave phanton fouls, ignored clear fouls and made no attempt to get the Hibs goalie to ‘play the game’. Eventually in the second half he spoke to her about time-wasting and at that point I forecast that he would book her around 85 minutes, ust to show he was in charge. I was two minutes out (83 minutes it was), but immediately after she went up to collect a cross, collapsed with no-one near her and needed attention. Another break in play.

His was an absolutely typical example of hun game-management against us from start to finish and I was sooo pleased that he was scunnered at the end. It’s in the DNA with these fuds.

Anyway, great day for the Ghirls, great weekend for the club and lots to look forward to next weekend.

I watched the game on Celtic TV and it was clear the referee was doing all he could to prevent a Celtic win. Rather naively I had hoped that such bias would be absent in the women’s game Instead, it was worse, so much so that I concluded that the referee didn’t realise that the game was being televised.

Celtic should make a formal complaint because he could have cost our ladies the league.

I have some sympathy that it was a hot day, against a tough team and a truly bent official, with our lasses under a ton of pressure.

But…….. they produced one of their worst ever displays of careless passing, blind alley running, failure to communicate between midfield passes and forward run made, and every free kick and cross sailed safely and easily into their keeper’s hand.

I’d excuse the back 3 (`Hayes, Craig & Clark) plus the DM Shen Mengu and the keeper Kelsey Daugherty who made a great fingertip save to keep the score 0:0. But big players like Tash Flint was off her game and Amy Gallagher was anonymous until she had one moment of brilliance 3 minutes from time.

It really was a poor poor game and a missed opportunity to advance the game. All that can be put aside for the pleasure and sheer joy of seeing the girls celebrate a season’s worth of talent and effort and set aside the great regret they were facing before they scored.

But I think Celtic let us down too. Around 10-15 thousand fans, mostly young kids, were crammed into the north stand and exposed to the hot sun all day while around 500 dignitaries in the Shaded Main Stand were unaccompanied with 80% of that Stand’s seats unused. But guess where the Presentation Stand was sited and the Medals and Trophy handed out. With their backs to 90% + of the paying crowd, all the fanfare took place.

If they want to grow the game, they need to consider the paying public. I am glad that I was there to see a historic title won but, I will seriously consider future attendance unless they handle things better

It was a pretty poor advert for the game but t

  10. Regarding the Celtic Ladies today, first things first, congratulations to Elena Sadiku and the Ghirls on their historic first league title win. Well done Ghirls, you were so unlucky last season to lose out on the final day.

I think the fact that they were playing at Celtic Park (huge pitch) rather than Airdrie’s stadium where they normally play, made it more difficult for them especially on such a hot day.

With regard to Natasha Flint, they were speculating on Alba that she was playing with an injury which was restricting her movement. I think they felt the same way about Amy Gallacher.

For me the outstanding player on the field was Shen Mengyu. She was absolutely faultless and showed that she was a very intelligent player. Brilliant performance.

Anyway I’m not going to pick holes in any performances I was jumping about in front of the telly when Amy did her double shimmy and put the ball in the pokey. Kudos to our little Chinese winger who put in an excellent cross which led to the goal.

Well done Ghirls. Enjoy your celebrations. Well deserved. 🍀🍀🍀

SFTB about the staging of the Ladies’ game, could not agree more. Huge potential, but a missed opportunity today, and not for the first time. If we’re going to do it, let’s do it right.

  12. I think if Celtic are really serious about promoting the Ladies team then they need to look for a venue closer to home than Airdrie. I think plenty of fans would travel into Glasgow to support the Ladies team but won’t travel out to Airdrie.

Are there any Grounds in Glasgow which hold about 5-6k fans. What about Glasgow Warriors even?

I may be giving the SFA more credit than they deserve, but I wonder if they actually have a cunning plan.

I suspect that their thinking is that with all the claims

of cheating, the malign influence of freemasonry and sectarianism among the refereeing fraternity they will point to Collum and say “well we have appointed a high profile RC as head of refereeing, how can we be accused of bias”.

B78- totally agree with initial points ,continual defence of Lawwell is embarrassing, ,despite the money accumulated in last 15 years,we have stood still as a Club, ,we really need younger, progressive people to run the club. If you look at big businesses, the CEO and the likes, have typically a 5 year shelf life,we have been stagnating for a long long time IMO, it’s time for a big change.

Our wee Pontiff just recently confirmed a ban on Catholics becoming Freemasons saying:

“Active membership in Freemasonry by a member of the faithful is prohibited, because of the irreconcilability between Catholic doctrine and Freemasonry.

This was in relation to a letter on Freemasons which cited a 1983 declaration, signed by the late Pope Benedict XVI, at the time the Vatican’s doctrine chief, stating that Catholics “in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.”

As far as I am aware they are NOT excommunicated but as stated above cannot receive the sacraments, so if anyone sees wee wullie at Holy Mass check out if he goes tae Holy Communion and there’s your answer if he’s a trooser lifter or no.

Good point on where the stage faces.

I felt that yesterday that the stage could easily be motorised and circular, rotating so each part of the stadium can at some point get a full picture of the team celebrating their championship win.Having viewed recent years from North stand 106 i felt the same, smiled at the temp stage in front of north stand, yesterday i was in 117,half the pitch to look at and the team tired at the end of their lap of honour.it was a long time from when BR and Calum where interviewed and they were looking forward to meeting partners kids and friends by that time.

One complaint blip was the gumsy female lead steward, shouting ‘get these folk out of here’,to young folk taking pics of their heroes down at bottom of 117.as by that time it was only them me and kano kids left in stadium, shoddy stewarding by her,and her only, the stewards she was head of were doing their job fine but obviously not up to that head stewards shouty standards.

Only blip on an otherwise top day and night

Shen Mengyu is the most under-rated player in that team.

Not to be confused with Shen Menglu, the tricky winner sub who provided the cross for Amy Gallagher’s winner.

    ……………………

Agreed, like many others on here I watch the women’s team when I can and definitely think she is underrated. However, she gave a masterclass today in midfield and never put a foot wrong. I know both the Chinese Ghirls have very similar names and sometimes confuse them. Shen Menglu’s cross was very good and it did give Amy the chance to score.

Only a club like Celtic could have the great granddaughter of Peerless Patsy Gallacher, the Mighty Atom, and perhaps Celtic’s greatest ever player, score the goal that gave Celtic Women their first ever league title. Truly a club like no other.

I’m absolutely delighted for all of them. Celtic, however, need to start taking them seriously and invest more in the team. They are punching above their weight at the moment.

‘Dish out cash to execs’- their wages are published in accounts. What they are/arenot can be argued over but do remember you do not have to look far into recent history to see the eternal ignomony of a club shatoot due to exec mishandling of a clubs affairs.

We have recent history of being within 15 minutes becoming 3rd Lanark in 1994,the Bunnet stepped in and got the paperwork to Bank of Scotland and his own accountants at PKF.The momentum of that and a refurbished stadia has spurred us onto unknown domestic dominance,it leaves a strong syche ladth, never to be near that place again. We pay professionals to do a professional job on behalf of defacto owner, the 2 i know of,CmcK and PL i know are Celtic fans, they know the short, med and long term plans of our club and with CL group stages ahead. You and i can argue over direction of travel we have no weight if a decision is catastrophic, that responsibility is on our exec.its a pressure job ladth.

We operate by the monies made from our fans,we choose what level we invest in as Celtic fan.no one questions emotional support but that can only come from profit
