Job done against tough physical opponents. 3 points welcome & deserved. However I would like to see a few more shots rather than try to walk the ball into the net, deflections are useful against a tight well organised defence with an excellent goalkeeper.
I thought Nygren looked the part, his movement is intelligent and he clearly has a rasping shot – I fancy he will quickly build his goal scoring tally.
Idah put in a shift but …
I hope Tierney was subbed as part of a planned change rather than some injury niggle.
Hard first game of the season playing against the Harlem Globetrotters, without any of the ball skills, and an extremely poor referee; fouls against no problem but for the Bhoys, nothing to see here.
I admit that I saw it through green tinted glasses but didn’t the ball strike O’Hara’s arm before Callum’s.

Well deserved victory – fantastic fans packed out Parkhead for old and new heroes, in an emotional opening ceremony of Celtic summer sweet sad joy, it was so good there was a nearly an anti climax when the football started.
Celtic leaving it late to break free from a typical Steven Robinson stranglehold discipline, the Irishman’s variation of the parking of the bus. Celtic looked very samey, and were, despite the inclusion of Kieran Tierney and Benny Nygren both of whom looked good early on, and Kieran as in pre season continued to find a ‘floated ball’ that’s been missing for years, from his position albeit on Adam Idah’s head, it be.
Nygren had a decent debut, probing with some neat passes and would have scored but for a great save from his close in dig, that came off the bar. Goal threat in other games signalled for the season. Hatate, and McGregor ruled the midfield as you would have expected, St.Mirren don’t really have one, in the true sense.
Trusty Scales was preferred to Auston Trusty who can multi position and was kept handy at the expense of Ianmura, to come on for tiring Tierney. Man managed and gagging to get on, in the 16 a side game that Brendan Rodgers has perfected, Saints finally succumbed. Luke McCowan filled the hole where the ball kept appearing, and fired through legs, ironically into the corner of the net his captain pointed the way too minutes before.
Evergreen Forrest transformed the right flank linking better with Johnston, and young Arne Engels showed the grit, that we’ll need in what is going to be another long hard season, where familiar gaps need filling before the window closes, and complacency gets filed in the bin.

Celtic 2025/26 Squad Cost
Celtic FC’s 2025/26 playing squad had a total market value of €126.15m.
The club’s total wage bill for 2025 was £19,345,976 per year, which equates to £372,038 per week.
vs
St Mirren 2025-26 Squad
St Mirren FC’s 2025/26 playing squad consists of 24 players, with an average age of 26.3 years and a total market value of €6.48 million.
The squad includes players from various positions, such as goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, with a mix of experienced and younger players.
The club has also made several signings, including Malik Dijksteel, who joined the team ahead of the new season.
Hmmmm.
PS, Why do Rodgers and all of his players walk around the pitch at the end waving and clapping at, straight at, the fans in a straight line view, from between 5 to 10 yards away from the seats, which is admirable. BUT, when they reach the Green Brigade area, they turn away 20 – 30 yards away from GB area, but this time they don’t look at the GB fans, they look up at the empty top tier and smile and clap, and pretend to wave to fans who aren’t there, rather than even look at the GB, or they look at anywhere except the GB area, smiling through gritted teeth, and clapping?

not long in from the game , thoughts
Idah tried hard to impress but failed , he has no positional sense , for someone over 6ft tall his heading attempts at goal are awful , very clumsy in possession and lacks ball control, he is very slow in getting back on side , apologies for going on and on but never a £9m player.
Somebody needs to tell Yang that he can go outside as well as inside.
Our captain was very unlucky to have his goal disallowed by greg Aitken , his arm is not in a unnatural position and he did not try to control the ball with his elbow it accidentally hit him , very harsh.
Liam was my mom for his defensive duties today but he was completely lost when he went into the opposition half when he went to LB , KT was absolutely knackered and shouted to the dug out not long into the second half that he needed to come off.
delighted with the 3 points but we badly need 2 wingers and a centre forward.

What I would like to know is why was the ball being hit onto the arm of a defender at close range NOT am offence (no penalty given), but the ball hit against McGregor at close range (ricocheting onto his arm) WAS deemed an offence and the goal chalked off?
Surely both scenarios were sufficiently similar to warrant a similar decision. i.e. Both an offence or both NOT an offence. So if it’s not a penalty it IS a valid goal, or if it’s NOT a goal then it IS a penalty… 🤔
Thought Celtic played reasonably well against a very disciplined defence. The referee resumed where he left off at last season’s Cup Final. If anything, his bias became even more evident after Luke’s goal. Then he awarded St Mirren a foul for every Celtic challenge. He seemed fixated on getting the ball into our penalty box hoping for a late, lucky scrambled strike. No luck, Don.
