  1. RC,

We have not seen our new Japanese boy in a meaningful game yet.I thought Idah was good today, bit off better fortune, couple of goals.Playing the way he did today,he will score goals this season.Early days, but we desperately need width.

  2. According to the BBC match stats and based upon the 90 minutes of active play:

Celtic were defending and/or trying to win back possession for 21½ minutes and had 10 fouls awarded against them… 1 every 2 minutes 9 seconds

Saints were defending and/or trying to win back possession for 68½ minutes and had 6 fouls awarded against them… 1 every 11½ish minutes.

  3. (Do the Celtic players need lessons on how to tackle legally? Or is there another explanation?)

we need to be able to scream louder ,that seems to work a treat for the opposition or just commit obstruction and then fall down also appears to work.

  4. The Board,(sigh).A blight on our club ever since I can remember. My Father and all his mates, hated the Kellys with a vengeance.I just listened. When Fergus took over,I became a bit ambivalent towards them. They were there, but I paid no notice.Don’t ever remember sitting in the boozers discussing them with any of my mates.I am angry at the moment, because I see, tight fisted,or bloody minded, behaviour by them maybe sabotaging our CL hopes.Gambling with our qualification. We might well win through, but it will never take away the fact, that for whatever reason, they gambled, ignoring all the fans hopes and dreams.

    Unforgivable.

  5. Idah was poor imo. Someone needs to draw him a pic describing the off side rule.

he`´ll be ok once he learns to avoid stumbling over his own feet.

  6. Imo, Idah’s ball control has got worse. The general feeling around me was that he has lost confidence.

I thought too that the ref gave us NOTHING, while every time a St Mirren fell over (or, like the goalie, feigning injury to waste time) he pandered to them.

  7. This was our first competitive game today and we got 3 points. Target achieved.

We could and should have scored more. Nobody to blame for that but ourselves.

    Certainly not the referee.

  8. Idah does not merit being Celtic’s first choice striker. I really don’t understand how people can argue otherwise. The season before last he hit a purple patch in the last few games of the season that secured us the league and the cup. Thanks to that spell, we took an enormous punt on him which has failed to pay off.

If Jota was fit, Maeda would be through the middle and Adam would be on the bench. If we sign a clinical striker, Adam will probaly be gone in the next transfer window.

We have tens of millions in the bank, why are some fans settling for a player who is levels below what we need?

Is it because he’s a nice guy? He tries hard? He’s relatively young? Does the fact that he’s scored a few important goals give him absolution for all the games he underperforms in?

if were gonna moan about the refs (and there are always chances to moan about robertson) get up to speed with the rules.

if the ball hits your arm before you go on to score – its no goal – accidental, deliberate, unlucky or otherwise – this one is not up for debate – thats the rules

if the ball hits your arm as a defender, at close range and at speed then usually its no penalty – gogics arm was already high when his own player hit the ball off of him – for me – no penalty

  10. Travelled to the game by train today from Westerton with two mates. As we were leaving from Central Station there was a wave of excitement swept through the carriage. It seemed from the buzz going round that there was a celebrity on board. We all stood up, craned our necks to see who it was. Then we heard mention of ‘The Bunnet’ being on board. And do it turned out to be. The Bold Fergus McCann accompanied by his wife. An orderly queue formed to deliver messages of thanks and gratitude for his saving our beloved Celtic and of course for selfies. They alighted at Bridgeton and walked to the Stadium. TOSB and pals alighted at Dalmarnock and as we reached the Celtic Way we merged with Fergus and his wife playing the role of Pied Piper to an adoring band of followers in hot pursuit. It was a lovely way to start off our Flag Day celebrations by being on such elevated company.

    God bless Fergus McCann!

    Job done.

    3 points.

Reminded me of 0-0 at home to St Johnstone in August 2023.

Played ok but didn’t quite click.

    Onwards. Season is long.

If Idah had cost £2m instead of £9m he would probably have been shipped out along with the other punts of around that price mark . Nothing personal against the big chap but there will be no magical transformation that I can see . It’s a face saving excersise to pretend otherwise .

Fantastic. Love it. Is Fergus still married?

No matter, his female companion looked very Hollywood glamorous with a beautiful statement hat.

Can just imagine them walking through Brigton X

    Thanks for sharing

Why did McGregor try to cheat like a Hun would have done, and claim that the ball hit his shoulder?

Insincere FC since Fergus McCann shafted the Rebel Consortium in 1994.

Check out Callum’s fake happy face when he does the wave to the fans lap of honour ordeal after full-time at Parkhead.

All seating has allowed 3 decades of pretentiousness to fly past with nobody calling it out, as the Jungle consciousness was smashed into thousands of pieces and thrown to the winds of time.

Remember the scam that Fergus pulled in 1998 when he was being a wee fly man against WIM Jansen behind the scenes?

During the 10 in a row season, before the end of March 1998 I think it was, when Fergus casually announced that the NEXT seasons tickets must be paid for before the end of April.

    Sounds like nothing, right?

Well, look at it this way, what would season book sales have looked like, for 1998/99 season, if the Huns had actually won their 10 in a row, AND, it all came out that Fergus and Jock Brown were threatening to sack Wim Jansen and Murdo MacLeod from before the New Year, when Fergus and Jock tried to get Wim to take a cheaper, “project midfielder”, instead of Champions League winner, Paul Lambert?

Apparently WJ told FM & JB, that if anyone but PL was recruited then he would not be played by WJ, and WJ would go public on it, as an example of the Celtic executive, attempted interference in team recruitment and selections, that WIM thought fans need to be told about.

And we thought freedom was gained in 1994? lol

No Jungle = No Freedom CSC

  15. Idah was excellent today and can only get better. The ignorant can’t see it, that’s only natural.

Anyone that’s played/coached the game at a professional level has an eye for detail on such intricacies.

More over, when September 01st comes, the bedwetters partners’ can breathe a sigh of relief, til next pre season.

    God rest Oldtim67 🙏

  17. Celtic got there in the end, but as others have pointed out some of the Celtic players NEED to get their finger OOT….and QUICK !

YANG is the new Invisible Man…..

HATATE gave the Ball away on several occasions….I KNOW that hes better than that.

MAEDA seems to have gone back to his old ways at times.

Sorry but ADAM IDAH does ma nut in…..I don’t think hes any where near good enough to be Celtics main striker, or even second choice Striker.

    POOR First touch….POOR second touch…

Usually on his heels when low crosses come in.

    POOR Heading ability.

    NO Positional sense.

Gets caught OFFSIDE far too often.

NO COMPOSURE in front of Goal.

FAILS to hold the ball up with his back to Goal.

    NEED I say more ?

NO Doubt he will score a few Goals like last season, but even a very MEDIOCRE Striker would score Goals playing in a Celtic team most days, given the chances that we usually create.

Its the ” LAW of AVERAGES”.

On the other hand, at least DIAZEN MAEDA can be a REAL THREAT when played thru the middle most days.

I was VERY disappointed that Brendan didnt bring on SHIN YAMADA, however given that the game was 0 – 0 til near the end and Celtic NOT at their best, it would maybe have been a bit UNFAIR on SHIN to bring him on in those circumstances ?

MAN of the MATCH….CLEARLY that man was LIAM SCALES….Who won everything that came his way. LIAM was SUPERB yesterday.

Well done LUKE for scoring that Goal.

    Yer having a laugh…aren’t you ?

  19. So wee FERGUS and his Missus were on a Train to Celtic Park yesterday….

Is Fergus down in his luck these days…..did he NOT have the Money for a Taxi ?

    LOL

  20. Big Jimmy. I’m with you 100% on Idah. He seems to miss so many of the basics. At one point in the second half yesterday he took three touches to get the ball under control and then hit it out the park. Just not good enough.

  21. Big Jimmy, you are spot on regarding team performance; especially on Idah. Never Celtic class and never will be. We were sold an over priced pig in a poke there.

  22. I heard yesterday that Fergus was playing golf in Largs on Saturday. Great to think he can still play and fly over to watch Celtic.

We owe him a debt that we can never repay.

    …………..

After IDAH missed a chance yesterday it was mentioned in the commentary that HE had missed so many chances last season, that HE was only ONE missed chance behind the Hun DESSERS in the numbers of MISSED CHANCES last season.

I will assume that the above is TRUE ( for the moment ?), but IF it is FACT…then we can ONLY HOPE that ADAM IDAH ” somehow” IMPROVES his game…PRONTO ?

If he doesnt, maybe Brendan will have alternative choices to make as to ” WHO” should lead the Celtic attack ?

It gives me NO PLEASURE whatsoever to criticize any Celtic player, but when a Celtic Striker is being COMPARED to the likes of DESSERS….then we are in trouble.

(Do the Celtic players need lessons on how to tackle legally? Or is there another explanation?)

    —————————-

These statistics would apply to many games so it is not just one referee.

Firstly, most of the fouls are soft which answers accusations from rival fans why we get fewer yellow cards per foul committed than other teams.

Also a lot of them are high up the pitch as we challenge to stop a breakaway well before it is a goal scoring opportunity which also reduces yellow of red cards. Our high press leads to 2-3 players surrounding an opponent trying to nick the ball back and likely there could be a small trip or barge; a technical foul.

Opponents are often happy to stop for a foul 30 yards out from their goal to break up play especially if they don’t have man forward whereas we are often happy to play on as we have a move developing and want the advantage which some referees are good at allowing.

The dubius parts to me are how small are the fouls as so many seem just like normal contact which wins the ball back for us and how many more robust challenges we suffer which are not called as fouls for us. Maybe that is partly due to the lower physicality of our team against several opponents like St. Mirren who have strong players.

    I have discussed.

  25. Weebobbycollins on

If we are to make our mark in the CL we urgently need a striker who scores half-chances. To persevere with Idah is a risk. The boy is definitely short of confidence at this time and we have a lot more money than time at our disposal…

    Good morning CQN.

    Windy out there. Stay safe.

Champions League Play Off draw today will finally bring certainty.

Then over to the tactical team to do their work and come up with a package.

Interesting exercise reflecting on the game the day after.

A wise CQNer (nah, can’t remember) previously stated you see it through a different lens than that you viewed through during the game.

I think that person was on to something.

    Warm day. Emotional day.

    Untidy moments.

Give and go moves missed the mark quite a few times.

Speed of thought, pass and legs not quite there.

And yet, we dominated possession, made chances, had some nearly moments where the final pass was a yard off, hit woodwork four times, had a goal chalked off ….

… and, most importantly, won the match

    Bring it on.

  27. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

IMHO, if everyone stays …. two wingers is all we need.

    We get these?

Our total striker capacity is fine.

Our total striker capability is probably more subjective.

In my head the pecking order (when things settle) is

    1. Daizen

    2. Adam

    3. Shin

    4= Callum / Johnny

Absence of winger capacity is keeping our top striker away from the role and putting more onus on #2 to lead the line.

I thought Daizen looked a wee bit off it yesterday, and has done since the baby was born.

Trying not to read anything else into it.

Adam was a genuine mixed bag.

Thought he did the physical and pressuring bit well enough.

Three truly awful touches in 75 minutes probably in the minds of most …

As (maybe) were a few moments in the box where the crowd could have been thinking

“If that was Kyogo or Daizen there …..”

  28. Idah. Why the witch hunt?Guy scored 20 goals from mostly off the bench last season.3 C

L goals, and as good as scored the winner against YBs,that got us through.Becoming a bit of a Hun skelper. So what if he is not first pick?.We need a massive squad if we get to the CL.A repeat of last seasons goal tally will do for me.So many mentioning the price tag.Daily Record pish.

  29. At this point in time, Stephen Kenny is our back up striker. Yamada has come to us mid-season so should be at his peak fitness, he’s behind Kenny right now, which is very concerning.

Liam Scales is our back up left back. He had a good game yesterday but relying on him to fill in for KT is far from ideal.

Yang, just won’t do. He’s simply not good enough. It’s unthinkable to play him in a CL play off, yet alone Pittodrie and Ibrox.

We’ve plenty of work to do in strengthening the squad.
