  1. Tontine Tim,

I have been watching Celtic since 1954, I think. The only player you mention that I can’t recall seeing is Sean Fallon. I watched Alex Byrne mainly playing for the reserves. Class. Charlie Callagher, as I’ve said more than once is my all time favourite player. Great shot on him, could take a corner (2 of the most important in our history) and could pass a ball. Thanks for the memories.

Not sure if you meant in the stadium or on here re the sad pathetic ‘haters’ who wear green and white but live for the day they can tell you they told you so that we were shite all along.

In force in the North Stand at full time 90 mins for sure. Booing your team in a cup semi final going into extra time. A new low.

  3. Keep Iheanacho fit we will win this League, said a few weeks ago wee Jamesie was worth a starting jersey

  5. As for the levels of bitterness from some on here …..

Well it makes them feel better about themselves I guess.

Perhaps a manager who bankrupts his club and whose legacy is it dropping it down 2 leagues on his departure is more what they are suited for.

Entitled and siting at home commenting on a football game lol.

*I moved up to the bonnie banks in 1954 so I reckon it was about 1952 that I went up on the VoL CSC bus, what I do recall was the SC Final of 1953 and my mum listening to it on the wireless while doing her ironing, as she told me that my da was in the crowd that was roaring, I remember years later both my da and FIL telling me that only Sean Fallon could have scored that winning goal, he was played at centre for that game, another of Bob Kelly’s “master strokes”, and seemingly Willie Fernie took on the whole defence dribbling past them until he got to the byline where he rifled the ball across, now any other player would have struggled to get on the end of such a hard hit cross bur Sean actually ran the ball intae te net.

  8. Oh Hampden In the Sun

Thanks to The Blogger for that unique angle, captured not only the goals, but the celebrations of the players and the supporters too. Not often Celtic score six @ Hampden, 1969, 1972 and 1974 in finals, cannot remember offhand about semi-finals. Who is to say we will not do it again in the Final?

Iv’e said it before on here, every SPL team can play a bit, and the Saints are no exception, well coached, and well marshalled by Gogic @ the back they got themselves back in the game by putting us on the back foot.

And then we got back on the front foot. Was thinking how many players have won both the FA & the Scottish Cup, Kellechi will join that gallant band next month if we prevail against an historic rival the Pars.

Lou Macari done it, Kenny Dalglish done it, possibly Brain McClair, and maybe others I cannot bring to mind.

I said yesterday that it only takes one game to change a team’s outlook, today’s win may well be that game.

    Yip.

    Watched game on TV.

Heard a chunk of booing at 90 minutes full time whistle among the cheers of, presumably, St Mirren fans.

    Thought I had misheard.

    Rewound and replayed to check.

    There it was.

    Really poor.

Jamesie Forrest shows the wide players what wide players are supposed to do.

Iheanacho shows the rest of them how to score goals.

    Quality players doing actual attacking.

It really needs to catch on.

    ++++++++++++++++++

There should always be a place for auld heids says I.

If Health and Safety are doing their job they should insist that some defibulators are kept in and behind Sinsalo’s goal.

KT, whilst not at his best, provided a goal scoring chance for Yang and got in a timely and great headed clearance after being grounded a few seconds before by a Saint’s player.

With a pretty useless Tounetki on the day to pass to I’m not surprised KT did not go forward much.

At least the Sir/Lord Haughey grifters bluff would be called!

Yang is a John Hewitt style striker rather than a winger.

Why were we pish until CalMac Caravan/Towing/Anchor man who slows everything down by telling the GK to build moves from the back?

Sooner CalMac disappears to the one horse league in Arabia with his jilted boyfriend, the better.

  18. A fantastic first half of ET seen us through in some style. I hope we learn the lessons of yesterday and stop trying to see out one goal leads.

The last ten minutes of normal time was everything bad about Celtic this season. Iheanacho has later got his goals but his contribution to their equaliser was just pathetic. He should have controlled the ball and bought a free kick but instead he does a Luis Palma and gives the ball straight to the opponent in the dying seconds of a cup game.

MoN needs to be braver imo. Leaving Hatate on the bench in 2-1 was a man trying to see out a game.

  19. Has there been a worse player for Celtic all through the years who has scored 20 goals from midfield than Nygren?

  20. ADVERTISEMENT
  21. auldheid@1.27

Well if you take a closer look at our second goal just before half-time you will see that it was in part created by (in your words) “the pretty useless” Tounetki cutting across the eighteeen yard box from the left before passing to Yang toward the rhs of the box who cut the ball back (backheeled I think) to Tony Ralston also in a forward position, who scored in style. A brilliant team goal, but one made up of individual moments, one of which is Tounetki’s. And that is sometimes what this game is all about.

    Good morning CQN

Another fine day to be a Celt.

A pleasant week’s weather lies ahead up to, and including, next game day

… if you believe the weatherman.

Good conditions for rest, recovery, and solid training.

Hopefully the players train with smiles on their faces.

We’re in another cup final. Tick

    Now 5 massive league fixtures.

Watched the game again last night.

Celtic are a rough outfit right now.

    Rough as in not smooth.

128 minutes on the pitch yesterday.

We were actually very good for c.80 of those minutes.

Still leaves a large amount of game time when we fail to perform.

    Positives yesterday for me.

Tony, Daizen, James, Kelechi and Benji.

    Yip, Benji.

    Watched him closely.

He was, literally, the only starter yesterday who routinely took the ball on the half turn …

… to give us a chance to play the next pass forward.

Should be automatic for footballers, IMHO.

Decent shifts by Arne and Yang.

    Negatives?

    Tounekti was really poor.

Needs to hit the gym big time in close season.

A courage pill and a mean pill to go with his orange juice every morning wouldn’t go amiss either.

    Goalie was sloppy.

    I’ve highlighted 9 of 16 players.

IMHO, everyone else was in that unremarkable performance space between not great and OK.

That number of unremarkable performances is a concern.

Going forward I think we’ll need 7 or 8 starters (maybe more) playing very well to keep us in it.

We’re living in those dreaded interesting times.

    Hey ho.

    Bring it on.

    Have a good day all

  23. The old 2-0 up dodgy scoreline …

Score next , game done …

Concede one , other team gets heart .

Whatever sparked that six minute burst in extra time , magic…

    Was it James ? 😜🍀💚

    BTB – “ Negatives?

    Tounekti was really poor”.

Agree. Unfortunately this is the case in most games.

I wonder if it will give pause to the linear thinkers calling for the Czech guy’s head – if Daizen plays through the middle Tounekti plays wide left. If you think Nygren is poor when Celtic are without the ball, Tounekti is on a whole different level so for me the Czech guy is the lessor of evils.

Anyway, my real hope is we can get 60 minutes from Ihenacho and 30 minutes from Osmand, which renders my point above moot.

  26. Morning all.

Firstly, well done Martin and the Bhoys yesterday.

A get together off Celtic minded folk will meet up at The Old Ship Bank in Glasgow’s Saltmarket on Friday 24th April.

If you can, get along, I guarantee you will enjoy it.

  27. We’re in the final. Hurrah

Anthony Ralston was my MOM. Hurrah

Never let the heads go down when St Mirren equalised. Hurrah.

An energised goal blitz shows us what is possible. Hurrah.

    James Forrest, Iheanacho Hurrah.

Was really impressed the way St Mirren fought back over 90 minutes. I didn’t even know who their caretaker manager was ( Craig McLeish ) prior to this game.

Our performance in the second half was worrying and certain regular players have to be looked at.

    HH. The journey continues.

  28. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

As I mentioned before we played them at Celtic Park, St Mirren have some quick, strong athletes who would be worth a fortune if they had matching technical ability.

A penny for McCormack’s thoughts – he hired the manager of a team performing poorly only to watch it be transformed by the youth coach.
