  2. 3 day week ahead, the ole Cheltenham festival is always good …

WITS, if lurking, any “certainties” running this week ?

By the way I do realise there is no such thing as a certainty :-)

    Well in horse racing 🏇

    Marvellous.

    Thanks .

  4. Good morning, friends from a fairly bright, dry East Kilbride. 6 more sleeps ;-)

2 very contrasting articles supplied by Harry Brady and CBN this morning,

As you know, I incline more towards the hard headed CBN analysis.

Harry’s is too much of an assertion that “if it wasn’t for a pesky lack of ambition we would be much better now in Europe”, without defining what standard of club with similar situations we should emulate. It is a wish list and not a strategy he outlines.

One very simple point he states i.e. that Sevco went out and bought Hagi to go straight into their first team and help them achieve a Euro win while we bought prospects in Klimala and Soro.

Unfortunately for that analysis to have traction, yoy would have to see Hagi as a better player than the other 2.

Genk were desperate to get rid and have replaced him with a Celtic player who could not make our team. It is, simply, much easier to break into the Sevco first 11 than it is to break into ours….. and Hagi is the evidence of that. As are Kamara, Katic, Halliday and Arinbo.

Much as we want to see our new bling because we are tiring of the old (successful) bling, we can only play 11 to 14 players in any match, we are going for 9iar with a restless crowd that gets nervous easily. Neil Lennon is doing an awful lot right.

Like Harry, it will hurt me to see them get to a further round than us, especially as we could and should have beaten Copenhagen. But, as TBB has oft explained, while we generally do triumph over most clubs with smaller budgets, we cannot and never will triumph over all clubs with smaller budgets. Defeats are inevitable. We have done a decent job of managing this risk domestically. I think we have done nearly as well as we could have in Europe too. Of course, we can do better but there is no small purse loosening which can bring us to a higher tier strata in Europe- the financial gap is far too big at the moment, sadly.

We will continue to tilt at those windmills but putting Harry Brady in charge of expenditure would not change our football success rate in any significant way.

It’s not a sexy message but, hey ho!

    SFTB – good stuff.

Just scanned the “The Umpteenth Avoidable Failure”.

I genuinely try to avoid scathing responses to online content from articulate, well intentioned Celts … but this is more of the same from the same production line.

A guy who has never run a professional football club or managed it’s team telling a CEO and a manager how to do their job.

    – No ¼ finals in Europe? Try living through 1981 to 2001. Post Christmas Euro action was a pipe dream.

    – Hagi? Are you serious?

    – Umpteenth failure? You want to see umpteen failures? Go either 3 miles west of Celtic Park or to Bert Kassies top 50 Euro clubs and check out the trophies won or not won.

Bayer Leverkusen in red hot form right now, can’t see how the huns will be able to live with them.

Gutted we’re not in the last 16 but could be some real entertainment served up at Ibrox twice in a matter of days!

    Another point on Hagi…

It’s easy to break into a team that’s struggling. Not so easy to break into a team that’s been winning.

Klimala & Soro haven’t had game time so it’s too early to say they are signings of the wrong caliber. Neil Lennon has opted to stick with the group that has earned his trust.

  9. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

It’ll be an up and down week for me as my confidence level will be dictated by the team selection that will only be known an hour(?) before K.O.

  10. To be honest, January windows are pretty rubbish. 90% of the players involved are completely unwanted by their club.

  11. On the 29th they were celebrating as if they had won a league title. Yesterday they laboured to a win over Ross County to keep the gap at 13 points.

The schedule has calmed down. No midweek game this week or next. 10 more domestic games before the end of the season. Possible that 3 or 4 of them won’t even matter!

The importance of Glasgow Derbies is overstated. They cannot stop the treble from happening.

  12. At the game on Saturday, the St Mirren fans had two banner; One said ” Twentyy`s Plenty” and the other something I couldn`t make out as it fluttered but it started ” Warning : Co…..” I assume the first was in reference to 20 seconds hand – washing and the second to the Coronavirus but why were they flying them? Humour , I also assume but what was the humour?

  13. The best part of the week will be the build-up.

I predict the game itself, played on an atrocious bog of a pitch subjected to constant rain and a game on Thursday, will be turgid and ugly.

    I predict a 1-1 draw and I’ll be glad when it’s over.

Is Hagi not on loan ? Just asking for a friend.

    ======

He is. And going by the scouting reports on him from fitba fans in Glasgow and beyond his ability lies somewhere in the ‘wonderkid’ to ‘pure p1sh’ range …

Personally I havent seen enough of the player to judge but if he is anyway fancied by Lenny I would be right up for putting £4m on the table for Genk and seeing that mob really explode! Or there may be a discount for leaving Kouassi with them.

Utter guff about Barisic.BBC only regurgitating the deluded nonsense from Hun sites.

Regards Billy Gilmour.I do not for one second believe any of the hype the boy has had is guff.I think he will go on to be a very, very talented player,at the highest level,if,he has the right attitude. He has a very good manager to keep him right, and is willing to give more youthful players a chance.

I think their concerns are understandable.

I find it surprising that other countries haven’t taken what has happened in Italy as a warning to act hard and fast.

    Personnel OK.

Tactics were the problem and may be again.

Loosely summing up , we were given no time on the ball .

As a result , they were knackered in the last ten minutes and opportunities were missed .

How will Lennie counter that in addition to the baying rabid masses ? ………( Small ” m ” )
