    1st half magic

    calmac especially

with wee bit of care looking along the lines we’d have been out of sight

2nd half – first time i’ve seen a european team just lump the ball so much

We stood firm enough and Kasper helped too

How big were their players !!! a handful for CCV and Trusty at first, but then they had them in their pockets.

fans were great – both sets

Ref was shocking – allowing them to foul with impunity

Taylor was patchy at best in first half – “honking” in second – a typical euro performance – pish defender

Hes no Haaland but how many big moments has Idah given us ?

Lovely to hear BR talk about “development”. Can’t wait to read some more p1sh tomorrow.

All just my opinion mind you…

  5. An Historic Day To Be A Tim….

    Good Morning Celts…

Whatca game, we were warned we would have to deal with YB’s “physicality” and so it proved, we could have done with a tougher ref.

Still we battled through and prevailed – awesome team effort, pleased for Adam who forced the winner.

Tough to pick three but winging it’s way to SENCELPOTY@GMAIL.COM is…

    1. Calmac

  6. Noticed there were “fholk” setting up Brendan’s team for a fall…

    Shame on you…

Glad the good ghuys of CQN were taking them to task but I’ve got a point to make…

    BURNLEY78 on 20TH JANUARY 2025 9:52 AM,

    ”Huge game on Wednesday.

I know it is only to reach the last 24 and not the last 16 as WGS twice and Neil did on much lower budgets but it is something we should be able to do.

We may never have a better chance to do this than this season.

We have a team which has won 3 successive leagues and been augmented by expensive signings to fit our managers needs.

We have a far bigger budget than many of the rivals we are vying with to be in the top 24.

We have had a far easier draw than many of our competitors with many of the teams in our path having below par seasons.

We are against a team desperately struggling in their domestic league who are coming into their second competitive game in over a month.

Our opponents drew with the second bottom team in the Swiss league on Saturday and have the worst record of all teams in the CL this season.

We will have 59000 supporters roaring the team onto succeed and desperate to see us reach the next stage.

If we cannot come through this game and set ourselves up potentially for a top 16 place then it really will be a huge disappointment.

Yes it was a huge game, the players that started…

Celtic: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Taylor, Engels, McGregor, Hatate, Kuhn, Kyogo, Maeda.

Now, in 2023, Ange’s team, that’s the Ange that spent far more money on players than Brendan Rodgers has done thus far, put out a team at Hampden to face R2ngers in the Scottish Cup semi~final.

CELTIC: Hart, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Taylor, McGregor, Hatate, O’Riley, Jota, Kyogo, Maeda.

Arguably it was Ange’s greatest challenge before he left.

The difference between the teams last night and the end of April 2023 was this

    Hart – Schmeichel

    Starfelt – Trusty

    Jota – Kuhn

    O’Riley – Engels

Now, are you telling me that there Is a huge significant difference in those teams?

‘Cause all I see, is a very good Ange Celtic team with replacements of a similar calibre.

No massive investment in that team.

In fact, due to player sales and retirement, we had high wage earners off our book.

We got 60 mn in Transfer fees, from that team alone.

Far more than we paid out for their replacements.

Yes,We have a team which has won 3 successive leagues and been augmented by expensive signings to fit our managers needs.

    Absolutely, as it should be.

Yet, the signings that have augmented Ange’s team, were necessary to keep us on an even keel.

Something we have failed to do for the last twenty years.

Of course it’s easier said than done, Neil (eye for a player) Lennon backed by Peter Lawwell spent more money to augment BR Mk1’s team.

    They failed abjectly.

It is easier said than done, to bring in the quality players Celtic need.

But let’s steer away from the b.s. please.

Celtic are running a recruitment strategy, the PLC have run for the last dozen years.

We have just honed it to a much better level for implementation and results.

Let’s hope we can now freshen up that team and move on from Ange 2023, to a team able to qualify and compete in UCL 2025/26 ’cause that’s where we belong.

Now let’s ALL get behind the team, we have a “battle of Britain” against Villa, then the draw, a Cup to compete in and the small matter of a league to win.

    COYBIG

    Hail Hail

  7. Reflections?

    Excellent result.

Some very good performances. Chairbhoy has outlined above, agree with his top 3. Moments of slackness which allowed YB chances

We maybe lack some height and physicality

Both sets of supporters were brilliant

The ref probably wasn’t as fair as I’d first thought

  8. I hope we don’t see too many/any posts that say “it was a good win…but” – however it is probablY a vain ONE.

If there are any will they also include: “we won the League Cup…but” – “we are thirteen points ahead in the league…but” – “we are in the next round of the Scottish Cup with the treble again in our view…but”

All that mattered last night, in a truly united Celtic Park, was the final result – we won and it is now in the record books. Everyone from the top down at Celtic Park must take a bow alongside our wonderful support.

The achievement means that we have arrived once again on the European top-stage. The squad and the whole club will be bolstered by our progress and I’m sure we will build on it, starting from the current window.

The next objective after this year’s continuing journey is to be ready, willing and able to meet next season’s CL playoff with a strengthened and settled squad. We must have another go at this new league format.

Unbeaten at Celtic Park, it feels good – long may it continue. HH

  9. I havent read back…yet, however THAT was a hard fought Victory for The Hoops.

    Well done Celtic.

REO HATATE’s long swerving Pass in front of Adam Idah for our Goal was World Class, no wonder Brendan was full of praise for REO’s and THAT superb pass.

PASS OF THE WEEK ACROSS EUROPE !

KASPER certainly played his Part with a couple of very important saves, and Captain Callum drove the team onto Victory.

I was angry with the Young Boys player for rolling about after the Foul by DAIZEN late on. The Defender had at least THREE goes at fouling Daizen before the wee SOFT Kick on him by Daizen.

VAR and the REFS SHOULD have ruled that Maeda was Fouled First and award Celtic a Free Kick, and then Daizens ” wee soft kick out” becomes irrelative IF the Refs and VAR look at the FULL Picture.

HH to the Bhoys for their efforts last night.

  10. Young Boys may NOT be a Top Class outfit….but the Celtic players were under TREMENDOUS PRESSURE to WIN last night, before a Ball was kicked.

The next phase of this competition will bring a different kind of Pressure …methinks ?

    HH.

    ………….

Thank God that Brendan doesnt read these pages.

Thank God REO was NOT SUBBED….What a Superb Pass from HATATE to set up the winning Goal.

BEST Pass Ive seen all week all over Europe.

  12. Headtheball on 22nd January 2025 9:45 pm

Jeez, how many times in Europe has a blunder done us in? Now we get a bit of luck for a change. Come on now Bhoys, finish it!

    ………..

Exactly….Its about time Celtic had a bit of luck in Europe.

    MAGIC !

  13. Brilliant to win and get it over the line last night. Credit to all. ESP the fans in the last 10 mins

I agree with all of that .

Re the referee , I would lay a lot of the blame for Daizen’s red card on him . If he hadn’t ignored the repeated fouls on Daizen , it’s unlikely Daizen would have reacted . Terrible refereeing .

  15. It would so FUNNY if Man Utd beat the Huns tonight by the ” ODD GOAL”, with the Winning Goal being an OWN GOAL from some sad Hun player……

Couple that scenario with Celtics winning Goal last night being an ” Own Goal”…….the Hun support would be jumpin oot of their windaes ?

    LOL

    HH.

  16. Delighted with the victory. Many expected us to win, supporters and pundits alike. But it is always hard to win Champions League matches or e.g. to convert a better second half performance into points. We should know. We’ve been ‘champions leagued’ too many times.

I felt we lost our way for 20 minutes in the second half, and during that time were a bit hurried and were too quick to use a tactic that we knew would work and eventually did to produce a goal. Two super saves from our goalie during that period, as well. The rest of the time, we were pretty good and should have been comfortably ahead. But instead by 80th minute, they were comfortable. I wonder if our support spooked them in the last ten minutes and made the difference. The intensity seemed to multiply and suddenly we were ahead. No coincidence.

  17. On reflection it was perhaps understandable that Celtic were NOT quite ” On It” in the second half last night, as the heavy Football schedule the Squad have had in the last few weeks was bound to take some Toll in the latter stages of the game ?

The Celtic players put in a great effort last night especially in the 1st half, so a lot of credit to ALL The Bhoys last night.

Also, well done to the Celtic support last night, as they appeared to be right behind the Celtic players right to the end.

    HH.

  18. It remains to be seen if Kyogo will play again for us but it looks increasingly likely that he’ll be away in the next few days.

A great signing, a shame he won’t get to that 100 goal marker but he’s leaving us with some iconic goals to look back on.

    Best of luck, Kyogo.

  19. We tired big time in that second half and i personally felt that we’d emptied our tanks, I was worried we’d be caught with the sucker punch.

Thankfully Brendan left the one player on the pitch who could both see and execute that pass to Idah.

  20. BIG JIMMY @ 9:40 AM,

Agreed, I was expecting our fitness to really kick in, in the second half, yet it was YB who looked the stronger and fitter, when you consider their run in, compared to our ten games in four and a half weeks, it’s no surprise.

Maybe waiting on confirmation before sealing the deal with the prodigal…

    Hail Hail

  21. I was thinking during the night (couldn’t really sleep: on too much of a high) not just about the amount of domestic games our players have but most also have international commitments too.

    Our goalkeeper: Denmark

    Our right back: Canada

    Our CHs: USA and Ireland

Our LBs: Scotland and Spain U21s

Our MFs: Japan, Belgium and Spain U21s. (Thank Ghod, our captain has retired)

    Our Forwards: Japan

When have they had even a midweek break, never mind a week or 2?

Imo, it is no wonder they looked tired in the 2nd half.

  22. Morning all,

Just finished reading back during my morning meetings as my voice is gone so couldn’t contribute anyway even after 3 morning cuppas. After such a joyous night it was sad to read some of the posts on here.

What a night at CP, fans more than played their part towards the end as it felt like the team were (understandably) out on their feet as the 2nd half wore on. Delighted for Idah; hopefully the assist for the goal, the team and fans reaction to him will give him the kick start he needs to just keep it simple and stop overthinking / trying too hard.

On the road home the news dropped about Kyogo. I thought initially it was the DR trying to piss on our parade and kill the joy of the night but I was surprised to find it 50-50 in the sell or keep stakes – it almost seemed to cheer some people up on the bus.

Personally, 10M + Jota I’d go with it now, otherwise I’d leave it until the summer unless BR has a replacement in the door first. If he goes and Khun and/or Maeda get injured it wouldn’t bear thinking about without a few kwalitee signings.

After last night I also hope GT finds a new club and a fresh start – moved seat again to let son and nephew sit together and the guy behind me did nothing but berate Reo and GT all game – even after GT was subbed off. I pointed this out to him and then it switched to AJ being a C U Next Tuesday for misplacing a few passes. Almost made me long to watch the games on the tele! Some players might not be top notch (if they were not flawed in some way they wouldn’t be with us) but as long as they give their all they’ll get my support when I am in the stadium. I’ll save the moaning until I am on here ;)

Engels bar the penalty miss had a game and a half. Reo – what a pass. The ref was just horrendous though – why do we always get them?! Hope we appeal the DM red card – even softer than the red card he got against AM, imo.

…and to think that not so long ago the talk was we’re not at Champions League level. Europa is more our level.

Yet here we are. In the CL with 1 game to go after 7 games and – as it stands- 18 teams below our current position…and it could have been even better. But wasn’t.

Well done to all involved at Celtic Football Club.

Can’t be prouder of my team. Regardless of what happens at Villa Park – and I still think we can bloody their nose – we have performed admirably.

Support our team. You know it makes sense.
