Celtic: We don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers

235

I may have slightly embellished our chief exec with my headline but that’s about the measure of Peter Lawwell’s message this afternoon.  He told the BBC, “We don’t rely on any other club. We are in a decent position, we’re very strong.

“We have a stand-alone strategy, a stand-alone financial plan and a robustness hopefully that will take us through that.

“Times are pretty tough. I don’t think it’s appropriate for us to talk about any individual club, these things are hypothetical at the moment.

“I think we’ve a view, a very strong view on certain circumstances but we’ll only share that at the right time.”

He said, contemplating a plate of ice cream and jelly after lunch.  He really should order 60,000 small tubs of both for our last home game.

Thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated in the CQN Music Quiz in aid of the Vanessa Riddle Appeal on Saturday night.  The room was packed, not for the first time at a CQN Quiz, extra seats had to be commandeered from elsewhere, and a great night was had by all.

£492.53 was raised on the night on top of £800 from the purchase of online tickets and donations.  Special thanks to Frank O’Hagan – new album available here – who provided musical entertainment at the end of the quiz.  Thanks also to the Stornoway Celts, who provided prizes, as well as Celticrollercoaster and Tony Warrington, for selling badges and CQN Magazines respectively to aid funds.

The night would not have happened without the enormous preparation and work by Taggsybhoy, aided on the night by Mrs Taggsybhoy and young Joe – thank you.  This evening Taggsybhoy will put a signed Celtic top donated by Penfold onto eBay to bring the week’s efforts to a close.  I’ll let you know when it’s live.

There is easier ways of doing it – by saying nothing.

Our club has stated their position in public while indicating there will be further statements when the time is right.

I think your suggestion is key…are fans of other teams having similar (if less intense) debate? They should be and they should be angry..they should letting their Club Directors know…

I think you are on the money there..

  4. Apologies if it’s been posted!

Rangers have lodged an intention to go into administration with the Court of Session.

The Ibrox club lodged the notice in Edinburgh at Monday lunchtime.

They now have five days in which to formally declare administrators have taken over the running of the club.

Solicitors lodged the papers with the Court of Session on behalf of the club’s directors on Monday.

Rangers FC are currently awaiting the result of a £49m tax case with HM Revenue and Customs in relation to the club’s use of the Employee Benefits Trust to pay players and staff.

The Court of Session confirmed to STV that papers confirming the intention to appoint administrators had been received.

Agree with every word of your excellent post.

Mindboggling that in a short space of time the self-interest groups have managed to

narrow the post apocalypse debate into focussing on getting NewCo back on track pronto.

What amuses me though is the spectre of more than one “business consortium”

battling each other to attract the new hun pound.

I would pay to see this.

    It will get ugly.

    It will be funny.

In fairness we have romped the balance sheet title race over this time and this season promises to be Stellar in terms of silverware but this is an ‘open goal’ season by any measure…

    ++++++

It is indeed an ‘open goal’ season by any measure.

Now what if we’d spent £30m in the space of 18 months 4 years ago like thems and couldn’t afford to recruit let alone afford to retain the likes of Hooper, Kayal, Izzaguire etc? Murderwell could be eyeing two open goals perhaps?

And yes, I understand that we did not have to spend £30m like they did and that by ‘underspend’ you mean we could have spent another two or three million, but whenever I hear of our board ‘underspending’ the context it is given is always within an SPL competition where our nearest (only) competitor did actually spend £30m in 18 months. It’s not the case that we underspent, we spent exactly what was required to win titles, we spent perfectly well, we spent no more and no less than what we should have spent.

It is however, truly the case that they overspent. They overspent massively. They continue to overspend on wages and sundry costs. And they are hopefully about to reap the reward their overspend from all those years richly deserve.

All that besides, ask yourself this (and bear in mind the various other items to consider: EBT case, missing PAYE, small tax case):

Would you rather Martin Bain was in charge?

Anyone know much about Edinho we may be signing?

    +++++

    First name Edon Júnior

    Last name Viegas Amaral

    Nationality Portuguese/Brazilian

Date of birth 7 March 1994

    Age 17

    Country of birth Portugal

    Place of birth Faro

    Position Attacker

    Height 180 cm

    Weight 75 kg

He is currently with Portuguese side Olhanense but has impressed Parkhead scouts and could agree a deal now to move in the summer.

The Portuguese say they have thrashed out a fee with the Hoops for the youngster who has already impressed Celtic during an initial trial.

They expect the transfer to be concluded this week for a player who has previously attracted interest from Spanish side Granada and English Championship club Brighton.

Well… you didn’t wake up this morning,

’cause you didn’t go to bed.

You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red.

The calendar on your wall is ticking the days off.

You’ve been reading some old letters.

You smile and think how much you’ve changed.

All the money in the world couldn’t buy back those days.

You pull back the curtains, and the sun burns into your eyes.

You watch a plane flying across a clear blue sky.

This is the day your life will surely change.

This is the day when things fall into place.

You could’ve done anything, if you’d wanted.

And all your friends and family think that you’re lucky.

But the side of you they’ll never see

Is when you’re left alone with the memories

That hold your life together like — GLUE

This is not the time to be squabbling about the CEO. The most important issue we have right now is ensuring Rangers are not given a free pass back to the SPL. I trust the CEO on this issue, despite my view being completely misrepresented by some on here.

There will be a correct time to discuss a growth strategy, and to discuss what we pay our executives, but that time is not now

We need to speak with one voice and present a united position. The CEO has a good track record of defending our interests , which is why we need to support and trust him on the Newco issue.

As I posted earlier “Worryingly , i was told today that the Celtic board are now beginning to think that it might not be viable to keep Rangers newco out of the SPL

That is a 360 on what i was told previously”

Viability is not only a financial issue, viability is whether you can achieve your aims and goals. If every other club votes to accept Ranges Newco into the SPL, then Celtics goals and aims are not viable. Celtic will be defeated.

There is a concern that other clubs will capitulate and vote Rangers back. That concern has increased since I first posted very vigorously that Celtic were anti Newco in the SPL.

  12. Wow.

    Like, superwow.

    Is it ?

C’mon, we’ve been waiting a loooooong time for this.

Now what flavours do we have here ?

And we need them, don’t you know? We will suffer if they go under.

    AYE RIGHT!

  19. One poster on FF thinks this is a tactic from Whyte to force a favourable result in the tax case and that they don’t actually intend to go into admin.

That is the level of delusion amongst them
