Celtic will win despite the First Minister

302

Let’s be clear on the rules, football has been granted special status and operate within different Covid guidelines to the rest of us.  This is why players could travel to and from the UK for international duty this month without having to isolate.   Players were permitted into Scotland this week who in the last two weeks have been to countries where they would normally have to isolate on landing here.

Nicola Sturgeon made a personal intervention into Celtic’s season when Boli Bolingoli broke isolation rules.  Celtic were not allowed to play for two weeks after this event.  I was so angry at Bolingoli I did not complain.  Rules were changed on the hoof to punish Celtic but there was culpability, so fair enough.

Ryan Christie is healthy.  He has been told to isolate at the whim of the same First Minister.  Kieran Tierney, who is also healthy, is also subject to political whim.  But not by a government that has kettled Arsenal fans in the manner this government kettled Celtic fans.

I grew out of political fantasies years ago.  Politicians are not your friend, they are not even good friends to those they share a rosette with.  My colours are green and white only, and we will win tomorrow despite the whim of the First Minister.

  1. Might be some truth to Welsh playing. If I was the manager I would give a young player as much notice as possible to get him focused. We will know soon enough I suppose .

    TONTINE TIM,

Fr O’Rourke is back staying in St Michael’s in his retirement. On his 60th anniversary of Ordination, Celtic presented him with a picture of himself with Jinky in the background. He gave a copy of it to my Dad, whom he had known since he was a young curate.

I remember Fr O’rourke when he came to St Michaels as a young priest, and met him about thirty years later when he came back as the parish Priest, thanks for that info H H

  3. Welsh will be fine.

We need to set the Tempo today, win the Toss take centre and hit the ball down near their corner flag. Get them on the back foot from the off.

  4. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

Vasilis Barkas is set to start in goals with a back three in front of him comprising Shane Duffy, Kris Ajer and youngster Stephen Welsh. The youngster hasn’t started a league game since February; however, with Christopher Jullien rumoured to be injured, the youngster will need to deputise after Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed were ruled out after testing positive for COVID-19 while on International duty with Israel.

In midfield, Diego Laxalt is said to make his Celtic debut at left wingback with Jeremie Frimpong on the right. In the middle, captain Scott Brown starts with Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham.

In attack, Albian Ajeti has passed fit and he will start with Patryk Klimala if the rumoured team is to be believed.

‘Today of all days with this game coming up,we still have posters being aggrieved that the FM uttered the words Rangers v Celtic game.’

    ###

I’m not sure aggrieved is the right word.

It’s more a case of wondering how a Celtic fan can square her doing that with thinking that the SNP are somehow on the side of Celtic FC or the fans.

The fact that she may know or care nothing about football is irrelevant. it’s about her subconcious views about the natural order of things in Scotland.

If you knew or cared anything about the history of the SNP you might appreciate the concern.

  6. The Battered Bunnet on

On Thursday Paul’s favourite politician referred to the “Rangers v Celtic” match, and “the Old Firm”.

On Friday she referred to the “Celtic v Rangers” match and “The Glasgow Derby”.

She had clearly been briefed in the interim, which is quite instructive.

    Hail Hail

Hardly instructive to anyone who has being paying attention for the last couple of decades surely?

What does it tell us? That the SNP have more faces than the town hall clock? That since Salmond was able to get O’brien onside (seems they had some attitudes in common) the SNP need to retain votes from Celtic supporters? That someone born and bred in Scotland has the default position of assuming the huns should have precedence over us?

  11. Doesn’t feel like our strongest XI to me but we definitely have match winners on the bench if the game needs chasing.

Rogic is a reassuring presence to have in reserve.

  15. Tombola selection for big game again. Hope he is right this time.

Tight in midfield and balls over the top first half?

Assume Julienne is not match fit

  16. As ernie & others have said, I would not normally be worried were the worst to happen and we lose the opening fixture at our place.

But in a year where the league could be shortened (I still hope that a minimum of 22 games has to be achieved for fairness) it becomes a bit more influential rather than decisive.

Lat year, they were a squad that were ompetitive for the first half , and it took the hard slog of January and February wins to knock them out of it.

They are a direct attacking team and I reckon will attempt to impose their dominance in the opening 20 minutes. If we have not conceded by then, my confidence will grow.

Neil has made an interesting selection, to ue Elyounoussi as the support striker. While this weakens us u front, it adds a bit more to the midfield to perhaps survive the opening period. With a possible back 3 in play, unless Welsh is right back, and 3 defensive debutants in this fixture (Duffy, Laxalt & Welsh), this might be a wise move to draw their sting.

I will not be fully confident of winning until that sting is drawn and Neil is ready to unleash a front 2. I can see Kilimala running himself into the ground and being replaced by Ajeti and the Griff, around the hour mark.

Final caveat is that Duffy and Laxalt give the ref nothing to flourish the red card. We are not good enough to win comfortably with 10. Let Morelos, Jack or Arfield get the first red- that I would laugh at.

Isn’t it great to be above ground on days like this?

  17. Ernie

Celtic fans have never, and never will be unionist.

the union is your only route to power.

    union above socialism

you dont care as long as your lot get power

you know it is not going to happen.
