Celtic with points to prove

248

Back in the 80s, when Billy McNeill was in charge, you could relay in Celtic responding after a defeat by giving the next poor team to face them a pasting.  They played with urgency from the start, which they often only deployed in the closing minutes of games when they were chasing a winner.

Football then got a whole lot more methodical, especially since Martin O’Neill arrived and instilled a discipline unseen in my time watching Celtic.  Under O’Neill and Gordon Strachan, Celtic would open the next game on-plan, without giving the impression they had something to prove.  It might be different tonight.  Neil Lennon has made it clear that the 11 who take the field against St Johnstone have something to prove to him, as well as to the support.  I’m expecting a big result.

Blogging on the go today so not really got time to deal with Our Pal Charlie but I’ll catch up tomorrow.

Think I’d be inclined to go with that line-up myself – given the injury problems/players not available for selection at the current time.

Looking forward to the time when Lassad and Sammi will be given licence to roam – in tandem with Hoops! Mouth-watering stuff!!!!!

  3. Spiers must’ve had the message from the Govan Fatwah brigade; slurping at Chunkle’s ankles now.

  4. How do people like Britnae look at themselves in the mirror? Ach, it’s all just hunky dory to be a flipfloppin’ cretin for cash in 2012.

  6. Amazing. Spiers finally admits what we knew all along. Rangers dead and a new club is playing down the leagues. I think the whole internet will go down soon. Stay safe!

I actually thought his closing comments today were quite shocking, where he seemed to be suggesting the rest of Scotland is somehow at fault for leaving behind the backward, sectarian “culture” of some of its resident halfwits.

Their entire 17th century mentality, and the detritus of bigotry that goes with it, should have been washed away years ago.

Now we have this clown telling us it’s bad that we’ve left them wallowing in their cesspit?

    I think not.

Chick just called him “Walter Green” – so unused to using his surname I suppose. He’s turned down some jobs apparently – Barcelona maybe?

  10. Around this time last week the tension and excitement was building to a crescendo as tip-off was fast approaching in Nou Camp. I watched the match in a hotel in Co. Leitrim while I tried to enjoy a fine roast beef dinner. Dinner was even more enjoyable watching Celtic compete brilliantly with mighty Barcelona and I thought we had the game won when three Celtic players had the goal at their mercy as that corner floated over in the final minutes – one of them surely had to sweep that ball into the net. Despite losing on Saturday the universal goodwill and praise for the team is still there. So let’s continue the good work with a win to-night.

Good to hear Scott Brown is fit and could have played on Saturday but was wisely rested. Interesting article in one of the Sunday Papers about the increase in hip injuries suffered by the modern sportsman which were previously unheard of, a problem which did not manifest until you hit your fifties or older. Doing massive weight training from a young age is now being regarded as the chief cause of damage to the hip joint.

Having an MRI scan to check that the players hip allignment and also to see if he is genetically pre-disposed to problems if he does star to lift really heavy weights – so that techniques can be adjusted or programmes altered is the way forward for many of to-days sportsmen.

  11. Speirs is a two-faced sleekit sod don’t buy any of his crap.

Tough game tonight but if we play like we can and get that early goal then we could be in for a good night.

Hmmm – Jabba came out with that one the other week – after all his months of relegation/punishment bleating. What is the agenda? Is it to try to take the heat off newclub when the tax case goes against them?

Twice I got “Buzzbomb’s” autograph, and twice I lost it.

In 2008 I was in Houston, Texas for a business trip and I called the local CFC bar from Celticbars.com to confirm they had the Villareal game on. When I got there I was gob-smacked to see the one and only Bobby Lennox sitting with his missus to watch the game!

There were only about a dozen folk there (it was 2pm local time) and I had a great chat with them at half-time and when the game was over. Turns out the local CSC is the Bobby Lennox CSC and they fly him and his wife over every year at Christmas time.

Carrying the signed, framed photo montage of the great man back on the flights was a challenge!

Over the period of the whole saga, you may find that he has said anything and everything and so, no matter what happens, he will be able to declare that was what he predicted/expected/said.
