Celtic work remains below-radar

898

I like the below-radar way Celtic have operated this transfer window.  Mikael Lustig arrived early without much of a murmur and Rabiu Ibrahim’s trial and signing went through with casual understatement, while Jaroslaw Fojut completed a pre-contract agreement before many of us had even reached his Wikipedia page.

Most of the headlines surrounding Celtic have been in connection with English clubs wanting our players, closely followed by public declarations of ‘I’m going nowhere’ from the players in question.

Compare and contrast with the situation over the city.  Almost daily Nikica Jelavic has to deal with a completely different scenario his club have placed him in, today telling STV, “The manager appreciates me and likes me, but I know the club are in a difficult financial situation and if they decided they needed to sell me, I would accept it.”

If you bump into Nikica tell him he’s talking rubbish.  His club were recently bought by a billionaire, they have no financial difficulties and they are reliably informed they are going to win their tax case.  Rangers players telling the media that their club are in a “difficult financial situation” are miles off-message.

So if Celtic signed 2 new strikers today, bought a time machine and sent them back four years you’d be a happy Bhoy yesterday & tomorrow last year next year. Is that what your saying.

I Kina have the feeling that if we pull off the treble this year you’ll be disappointed that we didn’t win the champions league as well.

hamiltontim – valid point mate. If GH and AS both scored twenty with KC and JF chipping in another twenty between them, you would expect to win the title.

I couldn’t believe that GH didn’t surpass Kenny Misser’s total last season, especially as he left at the beginning of January. Gary had some injuries, but he should have done better.

It wasn’t the so-called dodgy defence which cost us the title last season….we didn’t score enough.

Auldheid – I dont have any faith in UEFA /FIFA getting involved in making sure there is “Fair Play” ,to use their own phrase when it comes to getting any justice here. They will happily take a backseat and watch the SFA re-habilitate the hun.

I would not depend on them either although on looking at the UEFA web site their values One, Four, Eight and Eleven (in particular) will be under threat if the SFA do not act according to those values.

Surely not me, BT thought I was 20 at our first meeting.

In Cleland that would only make a great great granda :-)

  7. Barcelona have had a couple of chances in the last few minutes. Messi was very unlucky with a great attempt.

However, Real Madrid are not out of this.

  8. Hamiltontim. Hartson and Larson scored regulary in Europe and were always threat

Hooper and stokes are not a threat to top oppositions

Are you trying to say that larsson would struggle against top Spl opposition

Remember spurs reserves 5 hertz 0. I think that show that standard of Spl defenders

  10. MWD to be serious for a wee while, we are only 4 points ahead and the MIB’s will kick in if it’s close, we need a striker this window to help us get the goals required to win the league, we seriously messed up over the last three years contributing to the Huns survival, we need to win this league no matter what happens at the orcdome.

Ach I’m blethering ye ken aw this, I’m away for a lie doon.

TBB, I don’t think Hoops is Larsson, I was just surprised that your criticism was about his pace. His aerial ability I could understand. Still I’m happy to worng ;)

BB with all respect check the Human Salmon’s (GK) positioning every time Hooper scored against them, hhe’s a clown and the fact that Levine rates him just shows what a clown he is too..

Gary Hoopers stiffs gar kenneth every day of the week…

    ST,

we can’t afford Hartsons or Suttons now, and Larsson was a one off. We’re lookin for the new Larsson, but so is everybody else, and any signin from the low end of the market is a risk

Our income simply doesn’t allow us to compete for established, or even semi-established strikers. One thing we do need to do is trim down the squad size to free up wage money, but for the foreseeable future we’re lookin at young strikers with promise, with the risk that carries. The only exception would be a proven striker who is no longer in demand – e.g. Mollina

  17. Higuaín comes off the bench to remonstrate with the ref and that paragon of sporing propriety, Pepe, hauds him back.
