Celtic work remains below-radar

898

I like the below-radar way Celtic have operated this transfer window.  Mikael Lustig arrived early without much of a murmur and Rabiu Ibrahim’s trial and signing went through with casual understatement, while Jaroslaw Fojut completed a pre-contract agreement before many of us had even reached his Wikipedia page.

Most of the headlines surrounding Celtic have been in connection with English clubs wanting our players, closely followed by public declarations of ‘I’m going nowhere’ from the players in question.

Compare and contrast with the situation over the city.  Almost daily Nikica Jelavic has to deal with a completely different scenario his club have placed him in, today telling STV, “The manager appreciates me and likes me, but I know the club are in a difficult financial situation and if they decided they needed to sell me, I would accept it.”

If you bump into Nikica tell him he’s talking rubbish.  His club were recently bought by a billionaire, they have no financial difficulties and they are reliably informed they are going to win their tax case.  Rangers players telling the media that their club are in a “difficult financial situation” are miles off-message.

One last thought, why would a club that needs to sell Jellybean to raise money to see them through to Easter and avoid administration knock back a bid?

Anyone would think the owner wanted the club… Oh! wait a minute…

    Hail! Hail!

  2. Mwd. If we win the treble I want us to win it because we have been the best team

My point about Larson was not cost , but The fact that Spl defended are not any better today

As vhman says we need a striker to make sure we win the league

You can joke and Laff ad much a you want

But winning the title Is the target and our club must do everything it can do to achieve this, statrting with our strike force

  3. I find it quite amusing that some people go on about the need for us to sign a 30 goal a season striker.

Since 1998, we’ve spent vast sums of money on forwards, twice £6m, twice around £3.5m and various other sums totalling another £10m or so.

Sutton, Hartson, Viduka, McDonald, Zurawski, M*ss*r, Keane, Longest Name in Football, Kamara, etc.

Guess how many managed to hit 30 goals in a season?

the bid came in too early it`ll be acceptable on the last day of the window

    and

jings they`ll not have enough time to get in a replacement

Was listening to Talksport this morning and they had the Scottish guy who is there Spanish football pundit in (his name escapes me).

He was referring to Real Madrid as a club with dignity and honour who have always played in a spirit of fairness. It struck me how similar it was to the way the LL talk about the huns.

  9. Jimmyquin. We have lost about 20 to30 m income by not having a regular goalscorer

Don’t you think we could have spent about 6 to 8mand recieved back titles and Europe income to repay it

    Invest to accumulate

We have put zero debt 1st and trophies 2nd

5m paid towards our debt last year proved that

Brilliant thank you, too many just trotting out the *0 goals mantra etc etc, we have goals from all over the pitch at the moment, like every modern football team should have…

Graeme something …always struck me as a hun

there are many similarities between RM and the huns

self appointed dignity when they have none etc

  14. Gary hooper scores goals against the Huns and in Europe. Why the need to run him down by saying he doesn’t score in the big games, the Huns at ibrox and away to udinese in the Europa, it doesn’t get that much bigger surely

Why the need to run down our best players?

    ST,

thing is, and you know it, there are no guarantees. 6 to 8 mill would buy an average striker these days.

Its galls me, goin back 40 years, no matter how bad we were, we were always able to dig out a striker – formerly they were home grown, latterly foreigners, but none of them were big buys. The only stick outs, in real terms at the time, were Sutton and Hartson. Worth every penny, but who would you have bought in the last 3 years for 6 mill that you’re certain would have won us the league, and I’m giving you the benefit of hindsight.

  17. CultsBhoy loves being 1st on

We should aim to hold on to Stokes & Hooper for as long as we can. I feel Hooper will go at some point and he’ll deserve his chance when it comes – He’s not the best player in the world but he’s a helluva striker with that wee burst of pace that probably gives him chances Stokes won’t get. I love them both but if i were to build a future round one of them it would be Stokes. Stokes is great but I think he’s reached his level. I think Hoops has another step up in him…

As I say keep both for as long as we can. My money still on Stokes to score more goals and if he doesn’t – I reckon his goal to minutes played will be better..?
