CELTIC’S £9.5million flops Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas could be heading out of Parkhead before Monday night’s transfer deadline.

The Swiss striker and the Greek keeper arrived at the club in the summer of 2020 as Neil Lennon prepared for the historic quest of the side’s tenth successive title.

Ajeti cost £5million from West Ham to shore of the Hoops’ attack while Barkas agreed a four-year deal when he joined from AEK Athens for £4.5million, the team’s most expensive shotstopper.

Unfortunately, both players failed to live up to their transfer fees in a season to forget with the frontman netting a meagre nine goals in one-and-a-half years and the 27-year-old netminder unconvincing in his debut campaign. He has made only two first-team appearances since Ange Postecoglou took charge in June.

DOWN AND OUT…Albian Ajeti is grounded after a miss against Dundee United at Parkhead in September.

DOWN AND OUT…Vasilis Barkas is crestfallen as another shot euldes him.

Ajeti, 24, is attracting interest from former club FC Basel and there could be a quickfire move to remove him from the club’s pay list, according to a report in the Daily Record.

The misfiring marksman has scored three goals – including a double against Ross County in September – in 17 appearances this term, but has failed to impress the Greek-Australian.

The Parkhead outfit are keen to offload the Swiss international misfit on either a permanent or temporary deal.

Basel are weighing up an approach for Ajeti as a replacement for top scorer Arthur Cabral who is set to leave the club with Arsenal, Spurs and Serie A Fiorentina monitoring the hitman.

Barkas, who came close to joining Sheffield United earlier this week until the switch broke down due to financial problems, has attracted intrest from Sweden.
