CELTIC’S CASH WINDFALL AS MICHAEL O’HALLORAN DROPS INTO LOWER LEAGUE
CELTIC are due to receive up to £10,000 from the transfer fee that St Johnstone will get from the new Ibrox club after today selling the ex-Celtic youth player Michael O’Halloran. Celtic, while being kept informed, decided against pursuing any interest in the player.
This situation mirrored the Danny Wilson move to the new club in the summer. The player was desperate to sign for the Scottish Champions, who he supported as a boy, but Celtic decided against moving for the former Hearts and Liverpool player and off he went to the lower leagues. Wilson has not had an impressive season in the second tier, where he also played last season with the Tynecastle club.
In the case of Scott Allan, while several bids were made by the 3 year old Ibrox club for the player and intense media pressure was put on Hibs to ‘do the right thing’ and sell to the Govan side, Celtic were always in possession of the ace card. Ronny Deila decided to move and the player ‘walked away’ from the club that replaced his boyhood heroes, to sign for the 4 in a row Champions. Allan was been hampered by injuries but has looked impressive when introduced to the play.
It is unclear when Celtic will receive the payment for developing the former St Johnstone forward, who also supported Celtic as a boy.
