CELTIC’S CIFTCI BID REJECTED

CELTIC have had a bid – reported to be £900,000 – rejected by Dundee United for striker Nadir Ciftci while Middlesbrough prepare to double the offer.
Ciftci’s agent, former Hoops star Pierre van Hooijdonk, admitted the Turkish frontman is happy to remain at the club this summer, but would listen to any interesting offers.
Van Hooijdonk said: “The situation hasn’t changed. The player will go to training tomorrow.
“We just have to wait and see what happens. I found out [about Celtic’s bid]from Dundee United.”
Ciftci’s contract at Tannadice expires next summer and he has already told United that he will not sign an extension. That has fuelled speculation that the club will cash in on the player this year and Middlesbrough could rival Celtic for the player’s signature.
Van Hooijdonk added: “I have been contacted by another agent regarding Middlesbrough. No offer has been made as yet but we’ll wait and see what happens there.
”If something comes along that’s of interest to player and club then he would listen to that – nothing more or less than that.”
Ciftci could miss the start of next season if he is found guilty of biting an opponent in the final Dundee derby of the season.
The player has been called to a disciplinary hearing by the Scottish FA where he will defend himself against allegations of biting Jim McAllister. The judicial panel will sit on July 20 and if the charge is proven a lengthy ban is possible.
The 23-year-old has been at United for two season and has scored 33 goals.
