Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

  1. I thought it was a good transfer window. I have no idea about Ambrose but he has been mentioned for months so he has obviously been targeted and scouted well. Miku sounds decent and maybe get on a few of the crosses that sail over Hooper. I expect the main part of the wages and money saved from the Ki transfer has been reinvested in keeping Wanyama, Matthews, and Hooper. This is probably a better investment than Del Piero???

For us the differential between UCL/Europa is so huge with our lack of TV money and domestic competition that this window was always going to be a strange one. We were always going to have two days to do deals. As it turned out everyone is happy and wants to stay for the UCL – and there are precious few dead certs we could have bought.

Helder Barbosa was an interestign case in point – i think he seems the sort of quality sticky footed ball retainer we could use and must have scouted. But it always sounded unlikely that he would move from one CL team to another when he was already a 1st team pick.

Its been said that January is the worst time to buy players- but perhaps given our summer qulaifyign uncertainties this is not true. I expect in January we will know how Twardzik, Mcgeouch and Watt are doing. They look really decent and Im really hoping at least one of them makes it to be a 1st team regular.

If not then we will make moves for 2 or 3 young players we have never heard of. This makes sense to me – though I think in the last couple of years we have been lucky – there will probably be more Banguras than Kayals each year we just have to accept that and not get on the scouts backs.

  2. It’s was at 1.00am just before sercos cloak and dagger transfer of templeton … It’ll be on the SFA website when ogilvie decides to put the plug back in

Thanks guys – is there any chance the Expat Shield will affect my existing work VPN? I am using my company laptop so I dont want to screw anything up! ;-)

  5. To be clear:

There is a club in Glasgow founded in 1972. This club is in administration,

awaiting liquidation. They won or were awarded various trophies.

There is another club in Glasgow founded in 2012 who bought

assets from the previous club; the ground, parking lot and training pitch.

Both clubs exist at the present moment.

The first club has the history, the second club has the support.

The support has moved from the first club to the second club.

But both clubs are still in existence.

    I believe this is correct.

You will see a little shield down in the system tray, when you connect it turns green, when you finish with it, disconnect and it turns red.

    PL strategy:

    1. Check Rangers position

    2. Check bonus potential

    3. Do minimum in terms of driving club forward

I continue to be amazed at the hatred directed towards PL.

Honestly, if ever there was to be a season where we played the youngsters and saved our cash – it is this season.

Watt, Twardjik and McGeouch could become real first team players (or get found out) by getting 15 to 20 games.

I am really forward to today’s game (and this season). There could be lots of open, free flowing games in which we see our Bhoys develop.

    Let’s support the club.

I have never rated PL – but I always give him a chance – he always disappoints imo.

Given we are in CL with a chance of 2nd ..I thought it was worth a calculated and responsible risk on a ‘game changer’…

I’ve had a few discussions with people on here about listening to SSB and SportSound, and I’ve always made the point that we know the way those shows are gonna go, so why listen? I accept that it does give you some team news before the match (so does twitter and CQN btw) but I genuinely prefer sitting in silence before and after a match to listening to the rubbish that gets broadcast for the benefit of the huns. Even the Celtic men that they do get into their studios are chosen because their faces (or more pertinently their views and intelligence levels) fit.

I say just switch it off the radio and practice reciting the Lisbon Lions team, or the 50 States of America, or something.

Of course you do what you enjoy though, I’m just thinking of yer blood pressure.
