Celtic’s fitness deficit

189

With a little over two weeks until the league campaign is underway and, more importantly, five weeks until Champions League qualification starts, Celtic’s three games in France in the coming week take on an importance beyond results.

Many of the teams we could face in the early qualification rounds have been back playing football for a month and will be at peak fitness for the European qualifiers.  Celtic normally face this fitness deficit in the qualifiers only against Scandinavian opposition but there is a high probability we will face teams five weeks ahead of Celtic in match fitness.

This autumn, European football will split into the haves and the have nots.  Celtic could be a team in the Champions League, picking up talent at a price not seen for a decade, or we could lose more money than at any time in our history.  Champions League qualification is up there alongside winning the league as the most important objective for the club, even this season, when 10 is on the horizon.

All about opinions but I think you’re unduly worrying. We have a core set of winning professionals who are likely to be with us still next season such as Scott Bain, Callum, Jamesey, Ryan, Tom R, Leigh Griff, Mikey, Greg Taylor, hopefully FF…..emerging talent for succession planning such as Dembele, Okoflex, O’Connor, Welsh, Henderson and others who’ll be a year older.

Folk to emerg such as Soro and Klimala..

We will have a budget to kick off a cycle and I’d expect cross border young uns to feature again this summer.

Chill. We are a professionally run club. I’d hope we get Scott on as player : coach soon.

    ___

That’s a lot of players who still need to prove their worth. It can happen. But will it?

Like I say, a lot of work to be done. A lot of players have to make an impact.

    ……….

Cheers mate, but I am hoping to do some shopping for new clothes Tomorrow ( Wednesday)…and then get myself into my Local…if its reopened…IF its not then I may head up to Merchant City Pubs anyway ?

Apart from the 5 recent days in hospital from June 26th…I have been self isolating since March 18th…which is 118 Days ago ?

I will be okay, as I can usually drink more Beer in one session that most Guys…and many of Pals and Landlords have taken “Notice” of that over the years.

“Weee bit harsh, he obviously feels Celtic could be doing better, as do I…”

As do I- I said so expliitly in the post to which you are replying. We do not differ in our ambitions for Celtic, only in our tendency to attribute blame when those ambitions are not achieved. I can recognise the limitations that we operate under. Glass 2/3 full blames others within Celtic for failing to make his ambitions for Celtic come true.

BTW- I do not call it ambition when you ask or demand that someone else to achieve things for you. If it was a personal ambition to make Celtic better, using his blueprint, he should be out there working his way up through lowly roles in the game, showing that his blueprint works until he atttracts the eye of Celtic, who give him a chance to apply it to our club.

But then, I do not consider an “intention” to buy better players and never buy bad ones as a blueprint at all. It is just wish making. Unless you can operationalise your plan, test it out and see if it works, then it is just carping from the side lines, it’s being a back bar revolutionary- you know what needs to happen- if only others would just see that and start doing it.

I’m not at all sure why fholk with ambitions are regarded as pessimists and doom and gloom merchants… the opposite I’d have thought.”

I’m not sure either- that was not an assertion made by me. My point is that you have to implement your own ambition. It is the opposite of ambition to just ask someone else to do it for you.

If you are an optimistic ambitious person AND you have a system that works better than the current one AND can prove it, you will be welcomed with open arms at any club, including Celtic.

If , on the other hand, you have an untested plan, which no-one has ever tried to implement and, therefore has no record of achievement or success, it should come as no surprise that people will be dubious, sceptical or downright dismissive.

    It`s OK. I found this:

`…the governing body have notified the clubs that they have allegedly breached ‘Disciplinary Rule 78’ which states: “No member or Associated Person shall take a dispute which is referable to arbitration in terms of Article 99 to a court of law except as expressly permitted by the terms of Article 99”. `

  14. HOT SMOKED on 14TH JULY 2020 4:59 PM

They are both charged by the SFA of breaking clear rules ( Number 99 ?) of taking Court action BEFORE matters being looked at by an Independent Panel…or so I believe ?

they could be find a Million Quid and/or have their SFA Membership taken from them, and kicked out of Scottish Fitba ?

  15. If you dinnae stop Luke around once in a while….. you might Miss it.

Here we to 10 in a row… sebo nono.

  16. Big Jimmy

Hearts & Partick Thistle have tried it on & have both received a kick in the teeth

for their exploits that will teach them a lesson in future they should just accept

the fine they will probably get & try to up their performance level this up &

    coming Season

After all the Season just past performance wise they have both been poor

  17. I agree with SS kick Hearts and Thistle into touch. Lay down a marker.

What about sevco and all their pish statements about Dungcaster and McGlennan is that not bringing the game into disrepute? In my eyes it was and they to should have been fined.

    D :)

    ==========================

The two clubs have responded with a joint statement as follows:

We are incredulous to have received a Notice of Complaint from the SFA in the circumstances.

It is oppressive of them to require submissions from both clubs by 20 July when we are, in terms of their own articles of association, actively engaged in arbitration.

As our focus must be squarely on that, we have already requested the SFA to review the timing to allow us to be properly prepared and represented. That is the very least we should expect from the process.

Anyway Folks I bid you all a pleasant Evening go on the Bhoys get it in there & COYBIG

    Enjoy :-) :-)

  22. Forget all other competitions Cups etc but the achieving the ten titles on the trot would be massive and the main goal. We just cannot forget those big European nights so European football regardless of Champions League or Europa cannot be ignored, i want it though played in a half full stadium would be strange indeed.

Celtic usually pick a few handy games for pre-season but are in at the deep end straight off with this French tournament. I don’t fancy another debacle against PSG, but best of luck anyway to the Hoops.

  23. DAVID66

LENNYBHOY Remember. Allan McGraw Morton? He was quick and a decent player.

*I remember him but not fondly, He was a very good goalscorer when playing for the Morton where he finished as their top goalscorer in five consecutive seasons and in one of them he set a Scottish record for most goals scored in a season and while still in the 2nd Division led them to an appearance in the LC Final where after reaching half time 0-0 they collapsed in the 2nd half losing 0-5.

Allegedly we were in for him, the club were happy tae take the money but he turned us down possibly hoping for his local side tae come for him, unfortunately they had a lot of better strikers on their books then one of whom scored 4 second half goals in the aforementioned final, his cousin scoring the other.

We signed Paddy Turner instead, it’s a bit similar tae the Big Mhan wanting peter cormack who seemingly widnae play in the hoops and its rumoured we then moved on tae Wispy.

Another example was Drew Jarvie who would have joined us but the broomfield club widnae let him instead he later joined the sheep while we signed Dixie.

We won a watch with both signings.

mcgraw would later move tae Easter Road so like cormack it wasn’t the green and white he was hostile to, just the hoops.

I saw him playing at wing half against us where he ran from the left side of the park diagonally tae humph the wee mhan right in front of the Jungle, nae warning either as he arrogantly trotted away, however from the resultant free kick wee ten thirty slipped the ball tae chopper who rifled it home.

After 3 years in Leith he left for linfield, if he couldnae play in his preferred bigot home this must have been just as good or probably better, where after a season he jacked it in.

He took a number of pain killing injections in order to play while injured, this ruined his knees, causing great pain and necessitating the use of walking sticks for the rest of his life and that’s what I call karma, the effin dob.
