CELTIC’S GUARD OF HONOUR RIDDLE

WILL Celtic be afforded the respect as Premiership champions when they take the field at Parkhead on Sunday for the big league kick-off?

It’s still not clear if opponents Kilmarnock will give Callum McGregor and his colleagues a guard of honour before the 4.30pm start.

Last season, James Forrest, in his testimonial year, was first out of the tunnel with the trophy before the raising of the club’s 54th championship flag.

RESPECT…Aberdeen players acclaim Celtic skipper Callum McGregor as he parades the Premiership silverware before the title kings’ 2-0 Flag Day win at Parkhead on July 31 2022.

Opening-day rivals Ross County gave the Hoops the regard they deserved after winning the silverware the previous season.

The Highlanders then made sure the Hoops, with Brendan Rodgers on the touchline in the first match of his comeback as manager, worked hard for their three points before they succumbed 4-2 with David Turnbull netting a double and Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley chipping in with the others.

The previous year, it was Aberdeen who displayed their esteem as they applauded Ange Postecoglou’s side onto the pitch before goals from Stephen Welsh and Filipe Jota gave the Hoops a 2-0 victory.

Now all eyes are on the Rugby Park outfit to see if they follow the sporting example of the Dingwall and Pittodrie clubs in acknowledging the endeavours of Celtic in the previous campaign.
