CELTIC’S PREMIERSHIP KICK-OFF

CELTIC will kick off the new Premiership season on the weekend of August 3/4 after the SPFL announced some key dates for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Hoops will be aiming for nine in a row in fourth months’ time, a feat last achieved by Jock Stein’s legendary side in the mid-sixties and early seventies.

If results go their way this weekend, the eighth crown could be claimed against Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday.

The Scottish football bosses also confirmed the retention of the winter break for the teams in the top flight.

All four divisions will kick off on the first weekend of August with the Premiership shutting down from Monday, December 30 until Friday, January 17.

The season will begin with the group stage of the Betfred Cup in mid-July and the last 16 will again be played on a weekend to avoid clashing with UEFA competition dates.

The top division is scheduled to end on the weekend of May 16/17, 2020.
