CELTS MAY FACE ‘RETIRED’ KEEPER

CELTIC could face a Hibs keeper a week tonight who has not played for over TWO YEARS!

The Easter Road side face a goalkeeping crisis ahead of their Premiership trip to Parkhead after Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton recalled Dillon Barnes from his loan spell in Edinburgh.

With Ofir Marciano struggling with a hamstring problem, that may mean 36-year-old coach Craig Samson, the former St Mirren and Kilmarnock last line of defence, being forced to face the champions in the rearranged fixture.

Barnes, 24, took over as Jack Ross’ No.1 following an injury to first-choice Marciano in the win over St Mirren just before Christmas.

The Englishman was the netminder as the Leith outfit suffered successive losses against Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side, Ross County and Livingston.

However, with QPR No 1 Seny Dieng reportedly attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, former Govan gaffer Warburton has decided he needs Barnes back in London.

Unless a new keeper is signed in an emergency deal it will mean a recall to action for Samson, who has been on the bench for the last three games. The last time he made a first-team appearance was November 2018.
