Jahmai Simpson-Pusey (19), joined on a season-long loan from Manchester City yesterday, following a tradition of City central defenders after Jason Denayer and Dedryck Boyata took the same route.
We have a settled first-choice on the right of central defence with Cameron Carter-Vickers, while on the left we vacillate between Liam Scales and Auston Trusty. Jahmai is right-footed, so it would be a surprise to see him dislodge Liam and Auston, he is more likely to deputise for Cameron – who needs a reliable backup.
With Liam, Auston and Hayato Inamura available for the left position, right side is covered by Cameron, Jahmai, Stephen Welsh (25). and Dane Murray (22). Seven is at least one central defender too many. Dane is in the last year of his contract and Brendan Rodgers is likely to spend the remainder of the month making a final decision on whether to allow him or Stephen (who has two years on his contract) to leave the club this month.
Playing our League Cup game against Falkirk on the Friday gives us extra recovery time before the first qualifier, five days later. In deciding to play Livingston at home, three days before the return leg, instead of exercising the option to postpone that game, Brendan clearly feels his squad will need gametime. Given that Sloven and Almaty will both have played twice as many competitive games as Celtic at that stage, it feels a good call.
Regular reminder: there are 13 days to add to our Champions League playoff squad and 25 days to add to our season squad. Getting it done right is more important than getting it done early. Fretting about our Coefficient Monkeys is not a good look. We spent £27m between 6 Aug 2024 and the end of that month. Try to remember how successful sides work.

Suffice to say that CQN was very well represented on Monday both at the memorial service then later at the Leapark Hotel. And that is very much appreciated, and valued. Didn’t manage to say hello to all who attended, yourself included but did manage to meet up with Ritchie bhoy, who I know, and One Malloy, who as it turns out is in fact an old friend of mine, and who also participated at the graveside yesterday afternoon.
Once again thanks to you and others for making the effort on a stormy day, Davie left in good company……

2nd goal must have got chopped off.
Livescore csc
VAR was really unsatisfactory for Almaty’s 2nd. They obviously couldn’t decide. The ref brought both captains over and explained the decision. I presume they went with the onfield decision. Very close. Weiss got a red after he had been substituted!
Paul 67,
Jahmai Pusey (19 ) has joined us on a year long loan with no option to buy.
He will not be deputising for anyone. He will be played regularly.
Exact same scinerio as Alex Valle, only Jahmai Pusey is rated in the £20m bracket. Even man City’s ‘website states ” he has gone to Celtic to gain first team regular appearances”
We will develop him at the expense of our own youngsters, we will give him a taste of European football and he will be offski.
Back to Man City to enhance the value of their surplus fringe players.
What model is that ?
HH.
We shall thrash either team and the hun shall be thrashed anaw. Easy peasy. 👍
Kiarat Almaty 1 Slovan Bratislava 0. First leg but not a good result for Celtic. Need a reversal next week!

Well written 100% agree

Test
if Pusey is better than any of our other players who could play the same position and so gets played regularly then i dont really have much of a problem with that – albeit it maybe does show the wrong kind of model.
i dont want to see our youngsters getting developed in a CL qualifier or a cup final etc by being given a starting position if Pusey is a better player than said youngsters.
but if Pusey comes here and spends most of his time on the bench then it would seem a pointless loan.
to me its a different discussion about what folk think of that model, compared to what we think the starting XI should be on the day of a major game when you just want your best players playing regardless of how they ended up in the first team squad
Time to sell Maeda unfortunately. The way he was chased down and blocked by the St Mirren guy was reminiscent of the Jack Hendry moment.

mind the Brats were down to 10 men for the last half hour when it was still goalless, and only lost to a 90th minute penalty.
im sure we will be playing Bratislava, if they can keep 11 men on the pitch
lets all do the huddle on 6th August 2025 6:37 pm
Aye, on tonight’s showing, Slovan will be favourites at home.

That you – Michael 👍
The Paul Larkin articles quoted by St Stivs are very interesting as the contain a narrative not mentioned elsewhere, basically, that not Peter Lawwell nor Michael Nicolson are in charge of Recruitement and indeed not Brendan Rodgers but in fact final word is DD’s.
The suggestion is that DD has blocked 6 players from signing. Now whose advice is DD taking or his he using analytics to decide on value.
I had heard that previously Brendan had refused 12 proposals from the old Recruitment team and now his team headed by Paul Tisdale must be at risk. Now the Boot is on the other foot.
I cannot help feel that this dispute must involve Brendan and a contract extension. Maybe Brendans refusal to commit may be the result of DD’s cutting of further spending for a manager who is likely leaving. If Brendan were to agree to extend then the purse strings may be released.

That’s my point. The world has changed and we have gone with it. We have not sought to create or activate. It is good PL in at the heart of uefa though.

welcome back tony, long time no see.
There was a momenrt near end of season, when Maeda came back from Japan waiting on the birth of the kid, where i thought he looked knackered.
3 kids at home, games in asia,
it is the downside of having a japanse international
Lots of concern on here today regarding the relationship between BR and DD as well as with CEO and CFO
If BR has “lost the Board” (so to speak) we are in trouble
Also only one winner in that stand off and unfortunately it’s not BR
Are we sure there is a breakdown ?
IMHO I cannot believe that we sold Kunh with no replacement already in place
The fact that there is no replacement makes me think we could have an issue
Every other bit of business (in and out) makes sense
Those inbound mostly for development
Those outbound no real surprise (Kunh apart)
I’m not panicking on our options to bring in some decent footballers between now and the end of August
But I am nervous about the relationship between our Manager and our Board members
Imagine this
BR and the Board have a professional breakdown
The Board do not support BR in the Transfer Market
The squad today is what we have
In that scenario (far fetched – well I hope it’s far fetched)
Do we win the League ?
Now there is a thought to focus the minds that run our club

I’m trying to write but not getting posted. Nice to speak to you all again. When I get the chance.
Kairat Almaty got a late goal so will travel to Bratislava with a one goal advantage.
Soup, I’m not Michael! I’m Tony 😅
Stivs, just saying that when Hendry mashed Scott Sinclair in front of Rodgers for pace down the left hand side, we signed him. To my discredit, I don’t know the name of that St Mirren player. But he did that more than once in the game.

Ok thats a structural football issue, what about the plc having a good hard look at what it provides for the 60k at Celtic Park basic facilities like warm water at the handbasins food quality, more comfort in general for the support all could be looked at but seems to be a case of gee’s yer money and if you don’t like it lump there’s a waiting list.

I see Giakoumakis might be on the move again?
I suppose it is that time already.
When it comes to not sticking in one place for long, GG could give Lee Marvin a run for his money.

Any fan of other clubs them Hearts , fancy it against us this season, they see vulnerability, if this is the squad we go with I dont think we get into the Champions League, not enough goals or creativity, the league will be decided on consistency against 10 other teams, we can beat them at CP doubt we can even draw over there.
RB Salzburg 0 Club Bruges 1
Club Brugge were one of the best sides to visit CP last season and played us off the park the entire game.
They lacked sharpness in front of goal though, reflected by their only goal being CCVs gaff.
I was maybe busy that day but it felt to me they didn’t get the credit they deserved on here. Let’s see how they do against Huns, assuming they win or draw their home tie to RBS.
TT
Have they sold players from that team though?
Palma starts for Lech in the 10 position against Red Star 1.1 at the moment
Dessybhoy @ 8:08pm – I don’t know but I hope they bought a striker! (Hoops too, come to think of it).
TT
There is a fondness between the Bruges support and Sevco much like Hamburg and Ajax, no time for them.
Dessybhoy
To perhaps build on my point earlier :
There is no value in over investing in a team playing in Scotland. The risk reward is too great. Add to that the challenges of being the 8th or 9th market in Europe an agent might even was his client to play in and you can see the problem.
We have some strengths and appeal but a lot of drawbacks as a destination for prospective talent. Thus any negotiation starts with us having to pay at least the market price.
We have no guarantee of CL so there is immediate risk as it is not so easy to dispose of high earners in a team which is not performing. Slippery slope.
Easy for us guys with some business knowledge and no skin in the game to have an opinion on it all.
