Century of Vanity hid truth

1937

It’s not like we didn’t warn them.  Charles Green, with his ‘blame it on bigotry’ and ‘Rangersitis’ nonsense was an even more transparent charlatan than wee Craig Whyte.  Green moved in, fed them the nonsense they were oh so willing to swallow, and made off with their millions.  All carried out in broad daylight.

The financial realities were self-evident from day one of Newco’s existence.  For a while you had to wonder if any of vast number of fans, journalists and fan-journalists with computers had a spreadsheet between them.  But, a more powerful force than Rangersitis had taken hold – vanity.  The kind of vanity only those afflicted by a notion of supremacy are susceptible to.

Their club was liquidated, a newco was formed.  It adopted Rangers’ name while the original club was still an SFA member (and granting permission for their players to turn out for was for the time known as ‘Sevco Scotland’.

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment.  This isn’t an easy pill to swallow.  Around these parts people invest the kind of sentiment in their football team which goes into nationalism elsewhere, occasionally causing wars.  It’s a primitive but natural part of all of us, so perhaps we should have been more respectful of the feelings of others at the time.  Cough.

If someone was able to chart the world’s Cognitive Dissonance harvest it would have been off the chart for the last two years, brought about when a degrading reality met a supremacists vanity.  The subsequent scarcity of Armageddon (biff), Celtic’s flourishing Champions League action (bang), the new New Firm (whallop) were all late blows which none of the Jokers at Ibrox anticipated.  Even Kilmarnock managed to sort themselves out without collapsing into administration.

Without the ability to accept credit or debit cards, or with the bank’s authority to allow fans to automatically renew season tickets, the signs are written as tall as Ibrox’ Club Deck.  I can’t see more than a few thousand being prepared to throw their money into a landfill site.

Season ticket renewal deadline has been moved to a week before when next month’s wages are due.  Right now the directors have a reasonable aspiration that tens of thousands of fans will renew but on 17 May, the day after the deadline, reality should crystallise.  If there was a spread bet available, I’d put my money on administration in the days to follow.

Money talks, it don’t sing and dance and it don’t do walking away….

No I am right, in the context of the discussion re Danny playing at left back for Scotland, with the great, ( and revolutionary) Paul Breitner in the same position. I saw Danny often enough at right back to know he was a bone-fide World Class right back, but the fact is he played left back in 1974.

  3. KINGLUBO,

Went a few years back to Tiormina, for girlfriends birthday, stayed at Villa Angela (owned by Jim Kerr). Beautiful place, fantastic scenery. Nice welcome, seeing a Celtic pennant on the wall at the reception! Decided to walk down the hill, to do a bit of sightseeing, Saw a beautiful sight. It was a pub with a Guinness sign outside it. Decided to go in, (to buy the birthday girl a drink, honest) and what was on the telly? Celtic game from earlier that day! As I didn`t know the score we stayed to watch it. The Hoops duly won 4-0. Sicily, Celtic pennant, Guinness, and Hoops winning, it was one of the best birthdays I, sorry, she had ever had. They took credit cards as well!

  7. Heard a bit of the comment on Radio Scotland today ,Young at his cheerleading optimistic best, he is hoping for mccoll and he named him to come in and buy the lot, this was challenged thankfully by Tom English who told him if he Mccoll would not buy at a £ why would he buy it now, spluttered on about the bank telling Murray to sell to Whyte.Incidentally he has taken over from Traynor as a fan with a mic,Wullie Miller some months ago told him that they the pundits were empolyed to analyse not be fans, he needs to be told this more often as Rrichard Gordon gives him far to much leeway in his comments.

    Here’s a question.

If you are a football manager, who has the same budget next season as you had last season, but some of your players have wage increases built into their contracts, how do you make it all add up ?

PS the player’s don’t accept credit or debit card payments.

  11. Now, nothing would please me more, but in order for Admin to happen, an unpaid supplier would have to apply to have the company wound up for non-payment of an invoice. They have no bank to call in the Admins and I assume they’re up to date with their HMRC payments. Would be a brave company to apply to have them wound up, eh?

Spent a fortnight in Sicily 10 years ago, 1st week Taormina, 2nd Cefalu. Both great places, towns around Taormina have a coating of black ash due to Mt Etna, but some beautiful towns. Great beach at Cefalu and a lovely pedestrianised medieval town centre and Cathedral.

  13. Thanks for the replies about Ticketus.

  15. celtic mac I clarified that in a later post to sd,…………………………………………………..-topkat I don’t think they were drunk, they petitioned Tesco to build a supermarket in the town……..INSTEAD OF ASDA ffs……but bigotry in that town knows no ends, when I stayed there and my wife was expecting our 4th child they were all expecting me to follow their lead, giving my son a name with religious connotations (Michael, kevin, Stephen etc ) me being the big tim and piss taker told them they would have to come to his baptism, but credit where its due (I know) a few attended “Christians” christening oh how I still laugh at them oh and a nice green and white asda is the plook on their carbunkle

It will be good to see Lustig getting a game or 2 after that op, but at the same time…..will it be better for him to just say adjo to this season and prepare for next?

Just thought you might enjoy seeing this humongous A380 as it makes its first landing at San Francisco airport.

In case you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to land a “flying city”, here’s a look at it! What a beast………… Can’t imagine 800 folks on the same airplane!

This is an incredible video of a German Airbus landing at SFO. The approach shows wonderful and memorable views of the GG Bridge, the Presidio, the Bay Bridge , and the approach to SFO. You will enjoy this aviation video.

Big, Big Airplane ~ 800 PLUS PASSENGERS

Airbus A-380 First Landing at SFO…..NOW THIS IS REALLY WORTH WATCHING.

    Use full screen!

The pilots sit away from everything, no yoke, etc. Captain pulls up a keyboard once in a while to enter info but the plane does most of the work…..

It seems extensively automated. The air traffic controller gives them heading, altitude and speed, and they dial it in. Pretty interesting.

For best results go “full screen” on your monitor . It will seem like you are in the cockpit.

I’m intrigued by these “utterings” as I’ve got a complaint at the Forfeiture Committee right now questioning minty’s suitability for retaining his title.

    Amongst other things I’ve asked that they look into the cosy relationship between murray and the bank. If you can’t divulge online you can drop a hint to the Forfeiture Committee at;

Young was an embarrassment (yet again!) today – even trying to claim the debt under Oldco was insignificant and would have been reduced further. With no CL money that was never going to happen.

Bit harsh to accuse him of being a fan with a mic though – after all he is a St Mirren fan :-)

  29. Had a good day today, spent it in Glasgow with the other half for the anniversary. Couple of strong drinks in Barca ( to honour Tito) then spend the gift voucher for Jamies Italian. Bit of retail “therapy” was the price to be paid. However delighted to report that there was a visible lack of Orcs in town and the food and drink was excellent.

I know the boy Oliver takes a bit of stick, but his staff in the Glasgow branch deserve a big well done from me.
