After the delights of the League Cup Final, attention in Scottish football returns to league action this weekend, with the champions having a Sunday noon kick-off at Dundee United. This is the first time we have played United since January 2023, when goals from Jota and an Aaron Mooy penalty were enough to take the points back to Glasgow.
United are back to a more accustomed 4th placed in the Premiership table. They had an epic encounter of their own last weekend, losing 4-3 at Motherwell, in a match they dominated. It would be a mistake, however, to assume they are porous at the back.
Since a 2-2 draw on the opening game of the season, they have only lost more than one goal in five games this season across all competitions. Three of those games were against Motherwell. They manage to stop most opponents from creating too many good chances.
Aberdeen are on a five game losing streak which has seen their title aspirations replaced with hopes of a top three finish. They face Hibs tomorrow, no doubt still suffering PTSD from conceding two added-time equalisers at Easter Road a month ago. Jimmy Thelin is having his credentials examined.
After their second 3-3 victory over Celtic in 2024, Newco have spent the week reflecting on how improved they are. That was a perilous condition for them in April, we’ll see if have changed their internal narrative this time.

Chris Sutton not having it! Just read the ‘Unbelievably Harsh’ article posted on the sidebar here. He wants the 2003 League cup final replayed, if we’re replaying last Sundays! Sutton doesn’t miss with his comments. Well said big man.

Get the feeling after last nights refereeing decisions…didn’t see it myself…
They are now shit scared to make the wrong decision……of course this will ultimately help only one club !!
In regards to Brendan’s press conferences, my god , are theses people actually journalists….he must love going out there and repeating himself time after time after time !!🥱😴💤
Deniabhoy, TURKEYBHOY…
Interesting on Jota…
As someone who likes to talk about value rather than cost, the Jota deal was hugely Interesting and unique.
We had him on loan, presumably with a fee
We bought him, lots of haggling as his wages soared because of a great season at Paradise
We sold him for an exceptional €25 mn
Yet with what we already paid, the sell on clause etc al… Benfica made € 15 mn out of the Jota deal.
Still, if he comes “home” and does a job for us, I’m the last one to complain.
Here’s a name in the mix, so.eone well known to Kasper that could give us another dimension – Chritian Eriksen!?
Hail Hail
Might have been posted but loved Big Sutton’s comments ….
I’d be all for it. In fact, perhaps I should dig out my boots and we can have another go at the 2003 Celtic v Rangers League Cup Final.
“Remember John Hartson’s goal that was ruled out for offside when he was about 25 yards onside and Rangers went on to win the trophy? Let’s do that again.
“In fact, if we are going to replay finals for refereeing mistakes, we might as well have another bash at just about every Final in history.
“That’s how daft an idea it is. Rangers won’t take much comfort from Willie Collum coming out and admitting the VAR officials made a mess of the controversial penalty call.
“But what they can’t do is use this incident as some sort of deflection tactic from yet another defeat to Celtic – and yet another trophy that has escaped their grasp.
“It might have been a penalty, but it could have been missed and Celtic might have come back again. It’s all ifs, buts and maybes.
ERATIC 11:46 AM,
Not getting your point really – thought it was a milestone presser…

Unless your point is; the SMSM not the greatest sports reporting in the known universe.
Which of course apart from stating the obvious, it is a pity,
We had such great journalists, reporters, commentators in Scotland that pale shadow remains.

ERATIC @ 11:59 AM,
Great comment by Big Chris….

I see James Forrest has an article out about what I was saying yesterday about Me Coist.Celtic should take him to task for his insinuations and innuendo, demand he grovel out a full apology.

Celtic don’t stoop to that level, never have; even during the crash and burn days of 2012. It was right then, is now….and forever.
‘Sticks and stones’ matter little from people who hate you.
You know some say the opposite of love is hate – it’s really not, it’s apathy.
We carry on winning on the pitch and being ultra-successful off it – no time for irrelevancies. HH
Chairbhoy
I remember I was traveling when that final was being played , phoned my mate for final score when we landed….
Still remember his first comments on being gutted about the referees performance and how we had been robbed… again !,
Man City Goalie having a fabulous game, three great saves – two minutes gone!!

ERATIC @ 12:33 PM,
Yes, endemic cheating, ebts, Scottish Bank loans….
We might say we stretched ourselves financially but what on earth were we up against.
Great that big Chris doesn’t have a short memory.
Charlie Nic knows too…

We have got a game and a half in five weeks time.

On a fantastic pitch by the look of it
A wee non-football related request:
Could posters wait until the New Year has actually arrived before wishing people a Happy one?

Fair play to Charlie Nic. Not his biggest fan, but didn’t hold back there. Didn’t realise that clip existed.
Also, well said big Sutty. He doesn’t take their shoite.
😂👏👏👏👏

That’s something I only experienced when I came to Scotland. I’m not sure about the rest of the world but, in Ireland, it’s perfectly acceptable to wish anyone a happy new year before the event. It appears to be some sort of superstitious thing in Scotland?
Not a penalty to Rangers
Headtheball on 21st December 2024 1:39 pm
I thought it was more a `modern` thing than a Scottish one but I certainly was more aware of it when I lived in England.
I feel that when we say it IN the New Year, as we are shaking hands, we mean it more.
For instance, I was at the gym this morning and one of the Gym Workers said it about half a dozen times without any real interest .
Not a big deal , I know . Just a wee pet hate I have.

Not a fan of early salutations but can I be the first to wish you a happy and holy Easter
Superb goal by Villa
I was curious about the odds of a penalty in Sevco`s game today and found this:
Penalty Awarded?
Yes 2.00
Does that mean 2/1 ?

Re Maxwell from the other day. I considered that answer but couldn`t see why?

Too late !
Good afternoon all.
A god friend of mine, from Dublin is going to be spending over Christmas in Glasgow visiting his daughter who lives in that dear green place. Can anyone recommend any Celtic or “Celtic” bars or pubs that they could visit together. Music, football, drama, poetry etc related if possible. Maybe a venue to watch the Celtic – Motherwell game on St Stephens Day evening? Is the Clutha still open?
All ideas and suggestions welcome!
MELVIN UDALL @ 1:35 PM,
Yes, on “X” that Zeshankenzo comes out with some real classics.
I nicked that one from big Gordon64 on SC
Interesting how embarrassed the taker of the sooop was.
On the hogmanay thing – bad luck to wish someone a happy New Year before the “bells”.

Regardless of who you support, Clemente’s interview claiming “all of Europe is watching,” is the most embaressing, cringeworthy piece of sporting tv you are likely to see. Pathetic little man.

Thanks. Yes , I saw that but I still couldn`t fit it in with the whole clue ( which I have now forgotten !!).
Celtic Mac- Malones in the city centre maybe
Nothing surer than a Sevco penalty today, the compliant incompetent McDermid to oblige
good game spoiled by mccoist rabbiting on.
Has Man City stopped believing in Pep, or, vice versa?
The fall is gathering momentum – where/when will it stop? -perplexing – but to quote Brendan “ players(managers) are not machines”,although Man City have given a good impression of one for the last few years. HH
Brill meet at the Shipbank yesterday …we unrepentant Tim’s really are a special bunch indeed ..as was the moretti, brandy and a rather splendid buffet 💚🍀
