After the delights of the League Cup Final, attention in Scottish football returns to league action this weekend, with the champions having a Sunday noon kick-off at Dundee United. This is the first time we have played United since January 2023, when goals from Jota and an Aaron Mooy penalty were enough to take the points back to Glasgow.
United are back to a more accustomed 4th placed in the Premiership table. They had an epic encounter of their own last weekend, losing 4-3 at Motherwell, in a match they dominated. It would be a mistake, however, to assume they are porous at the back.
Since a 2-2 draw on the opening game of the season, they have only lost more than one goal in five games this season across all competitions. Three of those games were against Motherwell. They manage to stop most opponents from creating too many good chances.
Aberdeen are on a five game losing streak which has seen their title aspirations replaced with hopes of a top three finish. They face Hibs tomorrow, no doubt still suffering PTSD from conceding two added-time equalisers at Easter Road a month ago. Jimmy Thelin is having his credentials examined.
After their second 3-3 victory over Celtic in 2024, Newco have spent the week reflecting on how improved they are. That was a perilous condition for them in April, we’ll see if have changed their internal narrative this time.

Leaving aside this latest kerfuffle at Ibrox and the desperate pleadings that the new man Patrick do something about it. What must it be like to have every Tom, Dick & Harry coming in and out your club – people with no affinity, or, previous attachment?
We are the polar opposite and how we should be glad.
Contrast what happens/is happening down Ibrox way with these words from Brendan’s press meeting yesterday:
“There’s always that great level of intelligence on our board with expertise and experience. That’s what we try to use to the best of our advantage. So for us, it’s always about planning. It’s always looking forward.” HH
“ Oor Baw – Alex “
We can read about him, in Sir Alex’s book, where he gives an insight into the mind of the linesman. The standside referee’s assistant last Sunday was surely a descendant of Oor Baw. Somebody’s gonna get hurt if Rainjurz don’t get a penalty sometime soon, Philippe’s gone from zero to hero, the victim who’ll never recover even though he’s a tactical genius, masterclassing all along. The poor man’s even caught Rangersitis and is speaking the same pigeon English,- it’s a blue doo right enough.
SMSM have attempted to controversialise a Celtic Cup win in a ‘penalty’ ’debate that actually began when they went eleven points behind in the big prize. Monday morning was a realisation that the wee League Cup was a ‘ let’s have a look at what you could have won.’ moment. A penalty debate, when they marched into Merchant City straight past Celtic bars without even looking – didn’t they?. In the aftermath SMSM led with same old ‘ old firm ‘ what are they like stories ‘ by Monday evening, having whipped themselves into frenzy, they were on the penalty trail.
Celtic supporters labouring under the misapprehension that VAR would be a good leveller, need only have short term memory loss, or just missed Yang’s life threatening‘ high boot ‘ at Tynecastle or Fabio Silva’s Polaris penalty at IBrokes, good deeds, and all Hamdump’s work. Ironically, in its very first outing VAR patched a Celtic stonewaller at Tynecastle?
We don’t require any ‘outside the box thinking’ teething troubles’ don’t last for years, it just seems that way to us, by midweek it was corruption, and officials who need to ‘ confess ’. Maybe it would be safer if we just gifted the three points for January 2nd we can afford it, Did they ever carry out the safety work measures that allows away supporters, I hope not.
‘ Boots on the ground ‘ in Merchant City, but the real enemy up for £100M soft loaning to get to a VAR injustice, that’s as non existent as,……… Schh you know.
Butland injured in warm up😁
Sevco TV underneath the scoreline it says ‘ Live from the best stadium in the world ‘……😀…….has this taken over the tagline proclaiming the world’s most successful club?
Darwin, sorry,I am not one of these people who cares what Hun media spouts about us,but when an ex player from them,a fekin celebrity in the broadcasting world, comes out with totally unfounded accusations against us,alleged cheating, and in his own slimy way, tries to defame Celtic, and the people who run us,yes,I would hope we seek a public apology. All that shit about dignity, leave that to the least dignified club in the world.
Too long we had played the wimps. This attack was beyoñd the pale.
Feel free to wimp out,but don’t include me.

I completely understand your anger – however we have a great spokesperson/champion in Chris Sutton and I’m happy to let him rubbish all the claptrap in his own inimitable way. His latest piece ‘wipes the floor’ with McCoist et all. Hail Hail.
BBC continuing their Hun love-in with their text commentary…🙄😂😂😂
Wow. Ianis Hagi scorches one from distance and it skims the top of the crossbar.
That would have been an absolute beauty from the Rangers forward.
And
That would have been a stunning team goal from Rangers had James Tavernier not completely sclaffed his finish.
Hagi, Vaclav Cerny, and Danilo combined beautifully to tee up the captain, who should have done better.
Still 0-0 though bawbags! 😂👍
!!bada bing!!
Duly noted!
And more…
Rangers are cranking up the heat now.
Vaclav Cerny turns Finlay Robertson inside out and drives a low shot across goal, but Trevor Carson springs low to push it away.
It’s 37 mins into a home game ffs! 😂😂😂
Dons second place now’s collapsing like their Liquidation appeal.

😂 I’ll got for earlier than that to settle the fans down and I’ll plump with 49th minute.
If it happens, we should kick up big time over it.

I’ve never met Auldheid. Despite that I’m sad to learn of his illness. He is one of several contributors who consistently make this blog not just interesting but a real pleasure to read. If ever I spotted the monikers, SFTB or Auldheid those were the first to be read.

Hibs were on an improvement track when the met us and their second bottom position suggesting they were an easy meet meant anything but. It recent form that matters more.
Auld heid
Good to see you on.
I hope you are on the road to recovery.
Back home from Vale – it’s football Jim but not as we know it – dreadful display against bottom of the league.
Folks many thanks to everyone for all your good wishes .
The prognosis is positive but recovery after chemoradiation is slow and challenging in readiness for possible surgery.
However what I have found ever since I was diagnosed in July is that commenting on blogs was itself a form of therapy – blogotherapy I call it – and it helps take the mind of the uncertainty that ill health introduces in our lives.
I gave myself a licence to be lets say “less diplomatic” in some of my replies (more on SC than here) since July to posts because that helped too believe it or not, just that wee bit in me that says sods this for a game of sojers I’m going to give my feelings of feeling uncertain just a wee bit more free rein, so hope I haven’t upset anyone.
Thanks again for all your good wishes and Parkhead Cum Salford I hope sometime as I improve along with the weather to visit you and the good ladies who served me tea and scones last time we met.
