Champions League clarity for Celtic

889

Celtic have received some clarity concerning their first Champions League qualifying round opponents after this week’s first leg results in qualifying round two.  The five matches that could provide an opponent for Celtic all produced hot favourites to progress.

Sheriff Tiraspol, who won away in Armenia, are 22 games into their league campaign and top the Moldovan table.  HJK Helsinki, who won 7-0 on Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifier, are joint top in Finland after 17 games.

All other expected opponents won 3-0 at home in the first leg.  Neftchi Baku are top of the Azerbaijan league after 16 games.  Molde are two points off the pace in Norway after 15 games.  AEL Limassol are Celtic’s only potential opponents who have yet to start their campaign.

If Celtic are to progress to the group stage they will have to overcome stiffer opposition than any of these teams in the final qualifying round, so we should look forward to a stiff test.

Loved the We are Celtic Supporters video from Celtic TV (below).  Great quotes from Jimmy McGrory, Tommy Burns, Billy McNeill, Paul McStay, Jock Stein and the original “<insert name> is more than a football club” from Sir Robert Kelly, a few decades before it was picked up in Catelonia.

  1. if there is a problem we should look to fix it, if we see a problem and dont change it, then you deserve everything coming our way.

  2. If we want him we better move quickly.

    Sky Sports understands Derby

County are leading the race to sign

    Leeds defender Aidy White, although

the Whites are refusing to give up on

    keeping him.

The Rams have held talks with White,

who is out of contract at Elland Road,

about a switch to Pride Park.

Derby boss Nigel Clough is a big

admirer of the youngster and he is keen

    to bring him on board.

Leeds would be due a compensation

fee should he leave, but Neil Warnock is

set to hold further talks with the player

    about signing a new deal.

White has so far been unable to agree a

new deal with Leeds and a host of clubs

have been keeping tabs on his situation.

The 20-year-old is weighing up the offer

from Derby with Leeds expected to

make a last-ditch bid to try and keep

Would/Should we take Faddy? Looks as though the 29 year old is ready to come home (to play) after mixed success and injury issues.

If we didn’t have to pay crazy money (<20K) for him (there is no fee to pay) and he can stay fit… Sounds good to me.

This is a player with great individual skill and an eye for goal… He grabs me as someone who is up for the big games too.

I think you are right, the author of that article is obviously very anti Celtic. For whatever reason that may be one can only guess…….but what has it to do with NUFC at all????

However, if he is that concerned about Scottish football I look forward to reading another article from him about how unjust it is when the illegally won trophies are eventually stripped from OldCo.

This any good to you – from FF:

    “Ethnically cleansing scottish football

At every step of the way there is evidence of the bheasts involvement in the plot to bring down our club

The freedoms our forefathers fought and died for are being abused on a daily basis.

For years we heard all about the great masonic conspiracy. Usually on the back of a controversial refereeing decision. The decision would be splashed all over the mhedia including a daily helping of paranoia on the so called phone ins. The decision would be extrapolated into making the country believe it was symptomatic of an anti irish, anti catholic conspiracy blah blah. Of course it was nothing of the sort, but served to strengthen the cult mentality and its collective paranoia

From Gordon Smith to Hugh Dallas to Mike McCurry to Dougie McDonald, they were all removed because of perceived allegiance to Rangers and the protestant community.

We have lost our songs, not because they were sectarian but because they were on the money. Not only were we kicking their arse on the pitch,we were ripping the utter piss out them in the stands and terraces. Our discredited mhedia played a key role in providing evidence to UEFA in order to ensure sanctions were applied for the same songs.

Our terrific run to Manchester was derided daily in the mhedia. All we heard was anti football blah blah. The bheasts and their mhedia whores whipped up such a storm we were left hamstrung at the end of a season when we needed support from the rest of the football community. I personally will never forget this or the celtic family’s exploitation of two young mens sadly untimely deaths. The mantra is anything goes as long as it serves the aim of the cult

We now know the current hierarchy of scottish football was recruited by those within the celtic family. Incest certainly dies hard with this lot but if it serves the greater good of the cult, then its a price worth paying. Lets just add in the small detail of the celtics family lawyers arranging to remove our titles and trophies. Unbelievable I hear you say. Actually its reality in Scotland in 2012.

I am far from a conspiracy theorist. I was brought up the live and let live. My joy was and is following Rangers. I was encouraged to think for myself and not to hate(something I struggle with on a daily basis now). Watching and listening to the bheasts made me realise how lucky I was, that disdain is now turning into a far more darker view of the other side.

I don’t know where all this will end,but the aim of the cult is to ethnically cleanse Rangers from the scottish game.

The question is how do we stop it happening??”

Correct football is a winter sport .. Was originally devised to give cricket teams something go do in Winter..

We need better infrastructure- covered stadia , wider use of G4 artificial grass et to make sure games go ahead despite weather.

  18. stephbhoy,

I was talking about professional football. Not too many five year olds playing that – although I suppose Sevco might get that desperate.

If we start too early some players will be coming straight from international finals. And then the leagues will end with internationals still to come.

    Jungle Jim

Agree re Ledley more of an oversight on my part as I really like him..he keeps Mulgrew out of midfield.. That’s how good he is.

Our midfield is excellent.. With lots of combinations. I suspect this season we will be taking the game to most teams most of the time. So Kayal to hold… And Sammi, forest and Commons to press. Sammi is so good that he can drop to cover and push forward, it’s a pity he is still viewed as a striker as it leads him to judged against false criteria.

Ki and McCourt will do well wherever they go but they are not for Celtic IMO…Ki should be cashed in ASAP .

If Vic goes and we don’t get a CB.. I’d try Sammi ( a la Sutton) with Mulgrew. Folk might laugh but I think the big man could do it. He is good in the air and none too shoddy pace and superb striker of the ball. Most importantly he has football brain.. Rivalled only by Commons as far as football intelligence goes.

Scott Brown needs to consolidate last season’s late performances or he’s out at Xmas …He is captain but struggling to fit in to midfield behind Kayal, Vic, Ledley, Commons, Sammi, Forest, etc
