Champions League day is here!

264

Champions League day is here!!  Our season has never before started in a stadium in Reykjavik which holds less than 3,000 people but, on paper, it is the perfect venue.  Should Celtic qualify for the group stages, there will be greater challenges, and when they come, we will be grateful for these competitive games.

Cameras will focus on Ronny Deila before kick-off.  I am beside myself with anticipation to see how his team plays, but it will be a while before we get a true picture of that.  Tonight we’ll see Neil Lennon’s team, inspired by little more than encouragement from Ronny and John Collins.

A win and a clean sheet, please, Celtic.

Good deed done for the day, just gave away a guitar to one of the local Algerians i work with. A wee bit of sadness but it was left with me by an expat that used to work here.

The good news is, i guess i don’t have the hoarding gene!

I expect at least 2-0 Celtic. This mob’s European record is atrocious. No excuses.

Why don’t you get the train from Arbroath to Edinburgh, get of at the Haymarket,10 min walk to Murrayfield, after the game just go into reverse back to the Haymarket and on to Arbroath.

I’d like to order a bottle of your fizzy water once you label it.

I saw some discussion on here at the weekend about the causes of the First World War.

If you buy the following three paperbacks from Amazon:

    The Sleepwalkers by Christopher Clark;

    July 1914 by Sean McMeekin

The War That Ended Peace by Margaret MacMillan

the price for all three is £19.67 – honest.

  5. Paul,

I logged to see what, if any action you had taken against Kojo.

    Well done.

I hope that is his final yellow card.

On to football, my boy flew from Canada to Iceland for tonight’s game. His dad is jealous….

Then he is off to Murrayfield. Kids these days…..

The Good Lady Celtica’s face when I told her our match was on the telly was both hilarious and terrifying at the same time. :-)

There are obvious trolls on here. The only way to get rid of them is to ignore. I suggest any complaints are made directly to Paul without even acknowledging the initial post.

  8. Having only seen the goals of our pre season games, can anyone confirm if Ronny used the same system in each game?

Reports suggest he prefers a 4-3-3, yet many on here are predicting a 4-2-3-1 line up.

  9. it’s been a great day for me so far……I wish The Bhoys and Big Ron an’ JC all the best tonight.

scoddland wants us to fail, and the new manager to fall short.

I hope we have an enjoyable, stress-free game with a positive result at the end of it.

    Let’s disappoint the pooh-pooh brigade.

While I’m not in the business of defending KOJO,he has,to be fair, stuck to the fitba’ since his infamous miscegeny comment.

Last night was an aberration by recent standards. He may have been correct in his statement about the new racial make-up of LA-which is a worldwide phenomenon-but clearly wrong in his way of describing it.

IMO,he made the big mistake of allowing himself to be led by the nose by his wannabe disciple. KOJO is rarely on the same side as I am-on anything- but he at least has the saving grace of never trying to prove his ‘superiority’ to others on here.

The real culprit here is TSD. Still dreaming of the master race and livid that Germany beat him to the caption and the politics that go with it.

  12. As someone who lives in Edinburgh I think it’s worth pointing out how easy it will be to get to Murrayfield on the tram. There is only one tram line so it’s easy to follow. As you come into Edinburgh from the west you could park at the Ingliston park and ride near the airport jump on a tram and get off at the stadium. If you are going by public transport there are tram stops in Princes street and most easily Haymarket. The trams cost less than £2 and stop at the door.

  13. Sir Paul,

    Ach..

  14. Kevin mckenna’s piece in the observer on sunday on the O.Order involvement in the referendum debate has opened my eyes somewhat.

I live in the 6 counties. I was beginning to think that things were better here than in Scotland in terms of sectarian division. In reality it really isn’t. The OO here still have mainstream approval and support. Many politicians are open members.

Scotland is not perfect and in certain areas and over certain issues there is an element of the orange card being played (ruglen town hall, fitba criminalisation etc) but the north has a long ways to go until we get rid of full on mainstream orange influence and just have to deal with the usual vested interest of lousy politicos looking after lousy business interedts and other old pals.

  16. BMCUW, I think that is a fair enough assessment of the situation. Kojo is OK when he sticks to the fitbaw. Obviously his style of writing is weird but its easy to scroll by if you are not in the mood for deciphering it. I also believe that Kojo has a genuine love for the Hoops. I don’t believe TSD and Kojo are one and the same, I don’t believe TSD is a Celtic fan and I concur with your opinion that TSD is the real culprit.

I’d just posted a near-defence of you as well. Heyho, that’s just my good nature.

  18. antipodean red on

For what it’s worth, I watched the last two pre-season games, if truth be told, the young group were more impressive against an admittedly weaker Linz team than the established group were against an ordinary Dukla Prague outfit. If you look at the Icelandic team in last years qualifying, they won home and away in this round and only lost 0-1 on aggregate in the third qualifying round against the Austrian Champions, we should tread very carefully in this tie but with the players we have there should be no excuses for not winning it over the two legs.

  23. I think it’s important to get bodies behind the ball for the first 15 minutes or so and make sure we feel our way into the game. Yes we should be much better than them but lose a goal and suddenly we’re chasing things against a team in full flow.

    Defensive 4-3-3/ 4-5-1 for me…

    Forster

    Lustig VVD Ambrose Izzy

    Kayal Mulgrew Johansen

    Pukki Griffiths Stokes

Controversial leaving Commons out but would go for the more solid midfield 3 for this one. At least to start.

  24. Is anyone able to advise if any of the television channels in the UK will be showing tonight’s game, or am I on t’internet looking for sausage?

I think its important to be 5 nil up in the first half hour and start blooding young players
