Champions League day is here!

264

Champions League day is here!!  Our season has never before started in a stadium in Reykjavik which holds less than 3,000 people but, on paper, it is the perfect venue.  Should Celtic qualify for the group stages, there will be greater challenges, and when they come, we will be grateful for these competitive games.

Cameras will focus on Ronny Deila before kick-off.  I am beside myself with anticipation to see how his team plays, but it will be a while before we get a true picture of that.  Tonight we’ll see Neil Lennon’s team, inspired by little more than encouragement from Ronny and John Collins.

A win and a clean sheet, please, Celtic.

He didnt handle the bitch thatchers slagging with good grace and humour did he ?

I believe TDS was his alter ego until he flounced off, and what would be the point of an alter ego if its the same ?

I noted quite a few similarities in patter and outlook including identical political views.

I did put in a caveat!

TBH,I thought the reaction to her death was over the top.

For me,it was thirty-odd years too late, but the fact that she had become a peripheral figure-dead politically-for years was good enough for me.

She became an irrelevance and that must have really hurt. I enjoyed that.

I didn’t enjoy her death. Nor did I celebrate it. The bitch even deprived me of that, but in the end she was suffering from an illness I don’t wish on anyone.

Sorry but it’s Champions League Qualifier day,we are possibly six games away from the actual Champions League.

And Rony if you didn’t know by now,we may share an Island with what is regarded as an elite European footballing nation, but Celtic now play in what is regarded as a European footballing backwater and hence the reason for three qualifying rounds

Past glories don’t and shouldn’t guarantee you an automatic qualification for the group stages

  11. GuyFawkesaforeverhero on

Celtic’s current first team squad have earned the right to take part in the world’s top club tournament, again.

77 teams from 53 European Associations lined up at the draw. 3 were knocked out last week. By Wednesday next week, 17 more will be gone.

Our first target is to be one of the remaining 57 varieties still standing at the 3rd qualifying round.

On the positive note(you should try it sometime), a few years ago we only had to play two rounds but were guaranteed a strong side from one of the so called ‘big’ leagues in the play-off round eg. Arsenal.

Given the choice of the two unenviable qualification routes, I’d take the one we have now. By a long shot.

While I agree with you that this route is easier on paper,I think we faced Arsenal because neither of us were champions that year.

The main reason we are in the place we are is because the rest of the Scottish teams add very little to our coefficient. As a result, our points are diluted by a factor of five, the number of teams admitted to European football.

    That is surely wrong.

Good point – you are right.

Yes, I think it is ridiculuous the way ourselves, and other similiar sized clubs in smaller markets, are hamstrung. Something has to change to ensure a more level playing field or there will be no sport left.

Good deed done for the day, just gave away a guitar to one of the local Algerians i work with. A wee bit of sadness but it was left with me by an expat that used to work here

    ………………………….

    Really well done with that.

Is it a case of Play it Forward… :o)

I got so fed up retuning my guitars after grandchildren visits that I bought them all their own very used acoustics that they can use when they come round. Only allowed to use ie detune their own guitar that has their name on the label. $40 each – an Alvarez, a Yamaha and a Fender

In Greece so been offline for few days. First, very sorry to read of Braw and Weefra’s losses. God always seems to give strength to those who need it most at these times and our faith helps. God rest their souls and give them peace. Lost my dad 30 yrs ago and still sore. I couldn’t face visiting his grave for 20 yrs. heart

attack. Lost mum to Altzeimer’s horrible slow death. Loved the no of folk on here (all so v different) who took the time to feel for the pain and sorrow their Celtic friends’ were going through these past few days.

    Anyway to the hoops.

This site can make me laugh out loud. Yet I wonder sometimes if some posters are at the wind up on here. Someone (Kev67 I think?) saying Celtic should have a one club boycott and resign from all football – FFS what would that achieve – apart from finish Celtic- or Sydney Tim saying lack of Board spending caused us not to beat Morton or Aberdeen last season – sorry but that’s just nonsense – was at both games and (1) Morton got v lucky we frankly pummelled them and (2) Aberdeen result was entirely down to NL as we played the wrong midfield (compounded by his not correcting his error by not bringing on Biton when the whole ground saw that the team were crying out for him – much as Hamilton Tim said earlier.

Some of us want to see Celtic Board leading a revolution through the streets to overthrow the SFA, Scottish Police Sc Govt, oh and Uefa and FIFA too while we’re at it. I mean really?? Celtic’s strategy in my view is long game and under radar – for example despite getting pelters here and elsewhere – none of us knew Celtic had already written to SFA re Res 12 as far back as 2012?? cause Celtic’s priority was not currying favour with the fans with sound bites or playing to the gallery, but actually really putting a marker down. Therefore in my view Celtic are far cleverer than many of us give them credit for – ergo PL is an exec member of elite Euro Cmtee -at the absolute top table in Europe and exec member of SFA – i.e. change from within – don’t know how some of us don’t see the long game that Celtic have been playing. Do you really think that we sit and hand wring waiting in Sevco to save us – not for a minute – Celtic have been up against it for decades deadco was the establishment and that runs v deep – it won’t change overnight so why do some of us keep thinking it can?

As for tonight and the season ahead I’m really excited and hope we will get more attacking and quicker pace of football and some of the youngsters are given a chance.

    Tonight – 2-0 hoops HH

  23. Kojo,

I did not see your post which Paul67 has deleted, so I can’t comment on the allegations. I have generally appreciated your posts, they are full of candor and I can laugh along with you. Hope you stick around. Where’s that wee ‘dug’ these days?

I abhor any kind of racism or bigotry, but I crave rivalry between teams (especially Glasgow ones, those Harry Rags are scoundrels, so they are. lol).

At CP I think(1st leg) it was a late own goal and a penalty that killed us, over the 2 games I thought we were unlucky and it was closer than the 5-1 agg score suggested,

    Thanks RWE,

It’s the second guitar I’ve given away here. I gave away a cheap un-named acoustic to a local lad years ago he’s an accommodation supervisor. I now have 2 guitars here and won’t take them both away with me. The accommodation supervisor knew I had 2 guitars in my room. He also knows that I should be moving to a new job soon.

I started getting extra chocolate in my room at nights and he would stop me in the camp and tell me how nice my guitars are……this has gone on for the last few months. Finally 2 weeks ago he asked me if he could have my guitar. I said no because I would probably take them to my next job……that put an end to my extra chocolate.

The reason I said no was he has never learnt guitar and I think he sold the first one on. I think he would do the same if I gave him another one.

Anyway today I gave away an acoustic electro Fender Telecaster to the guy that works in our permit office. He’s a great guy and will definitely use it. The other guitar I have here is a cheap Epiphone SG copy.

Yes, thats an uphill struggle to get into the CL.

What we have now is not – 6 ties in 8 weeks sounds a lot but we are seeded and would be favourites in each round. Get through this round, build some momentum and before we know it it’ll be close.
