Champions League opportunity for Celtic with Astana draw

704

Celtic will face Kazakhstan Champions, Astana in the Champions League play-off round later this month, with the first leg at home. The teams faced in the same qualifying competition last season, with Celtic progressing, winning the second leg 2-1 after a 1-1 draw in Kazakhstan.

Astana eliminated Legia Warsaw in the last round, securing a 3-1 victory in the first leg, before holding on for a 1-0 defeat in Warsaw after 8 minutes of added time.

Although Brendan Rodgers will know what to expect, the enormous journey, the heat and the fact that Astana are 21 games into their league season, will give him cause for concern.

On the positive side, our man in Warsaw tells me there is a new pitch at the Astana Arena, which Legia report was excellent and a near-grass experience. He also tells me Legia should have done better in this tie, were the better team home and away, but were caught by Astana’s counter-attack.

They “parked the bus” in Warsaw and showed signs of indiscipline against Legia, which Celtic may be able to exploit.

Strikers Kwumasi and Kabananga, and midfielder, Maevski, are their danger players, while their keeper is “awful”.

It’s there for you, Celtic.

DALLAS DALLAS WHERE THE HECK IS DALLAS on 5TH AUGUST 2017 8:27 AM

An innocent Earlbank Ave. boy myself.

Totally unaware of the evil in the vicinity.

Had the privilege of conversing with big Billy`s wife a few years back when they visited Oz.

She was from Whiteinch , danced with the ” White Heather Club ” and was a FP of V.D. on Queen Victoria Drive in Scotstoun.

A marvellous , interesting and engaging lady .

In spite of her hun education.

  2. On a serious note, my new Benefit will change my life in so many ways.

No more struggling with just one bag of shopping 3/4 times a week, now hopefully its one shopping trip every two weeks, and a lift home ?

A new bed would be great as would curtains etc.

Anyway, there are many other ways this change will make my life a wee bit easier.

Good luck to those who are still fighting for their rights.

You are correct….. and “VD” was as appealing as the abbreviated social condition suggests but the Tims that were in the area, mainly made up of the The Original St Pauli Expeditionary Force…….. made their presence felt.

  7. DALLAS DALLAS,

    Cheers mate.

    BLANTYRE TIM,

I was gonny suggest meeting up in BV this morning before the game, but no point really as there won’t be much time before FLAG goes up, and anyway, I need to try and get a good seat in a pub for the match.

I won over £60 on the horses yesterday online with bet365, but my winnings won’t be in my bank until Sunday/Monday, it normally takes 2 days.

Talk to you next week mate.

  8. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning All.

Just as well I am up and about early as I had my head around a 3pm kick off for today!!!

I attended a very busy funeral yesterday. The Deceased was not a Celtic Fan by any means but was the former chairman of the British Amateur Athletics Association and told many a great tale about the exploits of the amateur athletes of yesteryear.

One such tale involved an Olympic Gold Medalist and Scottish Athlete going on the sauce in Mexico City and stealing the equivalent of a corporation bus!

Not content with stealing the bus, the bold pair proceeded to drive it around the city, take on passengers and collect fares before eventually returning the bus to its rightful owners.

Given that they were Amateurs and the incident was not track and field related, what could the BAAA do?

    Answer: Nothing at all.

Anyway, after the service, I had a chat with Sir Menzies Campbell QC who used to be instructed by my office in relation to licensing matters and judicial reviews. Big Ming formally retired from practising the law a fortnight ago.

I was going to ask him for his views on judicial reviews and sporting events but we got sidetracked into talking about past acquaintances and how you can’t give away a library of old law books for free – nobody wants them and everything is now “on line”.

    Technology is a bugger!!

Right, off to Parkhead far earlier than I had anticipated!

    HH

    M’on the flag bhoys!

  9. MACJAY 1,

    Cheers mate.

My God, the days when I was ABLE to run away from angry boyfriends and husbands seem like a different life away….but yet, the memories of being able to RUN are still with me.

I have been asked many times over the years what I miss most from yesteryear ?

While I could talk about lost loved ones and old wives and girlfriends that I let slip thru my fingers……I miss the ability to RUN.

I was always a speedster, faster than Bobby Lennox ?…Probably not, but who was faster than Buzzbomb ?

I always had terrific stamina for 90 minutes, and/or cross country running despite being a smoker. It must have been the punishing training that I would put myself thru….and then smoke 3 fags in a row when it was over ?

Aye, I also used too run away from some of they big bad boys from Glasgows east end….they never once caught me !

Thats why I still have my good looks ?

Anyway…I still have great memories of the fitness, speed and stamina that I used too have, and it always makes me feel better to remember those days, rather than feeling sad and biter.

PS…There were probably a few wummin who wished I had run away ?

Enjoy the game today Bhoys and Ghirls…..and come back with 3 points !

Our opening selections for the 2017-18 season are below. Last year was a complete blank but one of these weeks it’ll come up again. This week would be nice as we’re looking at combined odds today of around 300/1.

    BMCUW – Carlisle

    Jobo Baldie – Peterhead

    Gerryfaethebrig – Hibs
