Champions League opportunity for Celtic with Astana draw

704

Celtic will face Kazakhstan Champions, Astana in the Champions League play-off round later this month, with the first leg at home. The teams faced in the same qualifying competition last season, with Celtic progressing, winning the second leg 2-1 after a 1-1 draw in Kazakhstan.

Astana eliminated Legia Warsaw in the last round, securing a 3-1 victory in the first leg, before holding on for a 1-0 defeat in Warsaw after 8 minutes of added time.

Although Brendan Rodgers will know what to expect, the enormous journey, the heat and the fact that Astana are 21 games into their league season, will give him cause for concern.

On the positive side, our man in Warsaw tells me there is a new pitch at the Astana Arena, which Legia report was excellent and a near-grass experience. He also tells me Legia should have done better in this tie, were the better team home and away, but were caught by Astana’s counter-attack.

They “parked the bus” in Warsaw and showed signs of indiscipline against Legia, which Celtic may be able to exploit.

Strikers Kwumasi and Kabananga, and midfielder, Maevski, are their danger players, while their keeper is “awful”.

It’s there for you, Celtic.

Hail hail from a soon to start raining again Khao Lak in Thailand. I have a glimmer of hope of watching the game in a bar where the guy said he might be able to stream it. However, if there is anyone out this way who would know which channel(s) do show the game…out this way, I would be grateful for any assistance so that I can make the barman’s job easier and my evening more enjoyable. Thanks in advance

That’s what happens when someone posts about a water shortage!

  10. So, Doncaster will be on the pitch as its flag day and the GB are missing from the standing section.

I wonder if these two things are related.

    Could have been awkward!

I thought sleekit Sally would get McCann’s gig on sky which I would not annoy e as I don’t have sky sports.

I enjoy BT’s coverage of Scottish football but if that sleekit so and so is on it , who knows hee haw about hee haw ,the volume will be getting turned down pre match , half time and full time . I can’t bear his bulbous coupon and his voice .

It’s an exercise in mass(!) piss-taking.

So when he appears, maybe everyone should head for a pie, a piss or a pint, and let the broadcasters try to ignore the empty stands.

Bada Bing, i miss Jobo’s weather reports in the morning as it saved me looking out to see what the weather was like each morning. Lol

  15. DALLAS DALLAS.

I would have been one of the guys late 70s /80s getting on the 64 in Scotstoun .

The bus stop right outside of the CAIRNGORM flats Dumbarton road .

Every so often i would stay at my aunts after being at the dancing Friday night.

My cousin worked in the butchers on Dumbarton road at Henrietta street .

I would get wakened at 5:30 by my uncle with a full breakfast for me and my cousin, as he started at 6 .

Getting in at 2 am it was a long day ……anyhoo you brought back some fond memories …….remember some trouble kicking off at partick ….

Zilch to do with jazz but Mrs S of T has been giving this lots of spins –

LP – Girl Ray -Earl Grey ( Moshi Moshi ) —mighty fine .

This mornings get up and outta bed choon –https://youtu.be/jxrQTkNanJghttps:

  18. Hoping to get a good look at Ntcham as we don’t normally have £4.5M players sitting around on the bench and early glimpses promise much, although our midfield is an embarrassment of riches.

Bitton should slot into his new found CB role and I hope we start with an orthodox striker i.e. Leigh.

James Forrest will carry the main wide threat in a side where competition for places has never been contested by such a group of Celtic international class, and the marathon begins with the beautiful game in our officialy now well established crooked league.

  23. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Got to say that the GB being absent to make a point with the SFA and SPFL is no a big issue for me, as up to now they have been dead set on distracting from it. I simply don’t remember an initiative from them that highlighted the corruption and when opportunities became available they became a distraction, hence my suspicion they are a board or security construction.

Today is an opportunity to voice the supports opinion on corruption. Had the GB been there I expect an IRA (god bless them their fight was righteous) or assault on the board would have been the GBs focus. I support their freedom of expression but don’t support their lack of university education, it’s like they went to the same university as Tony Donnelly, the university of too much squalking and no enough readin.

Partick always a hot spot for bother for Celtic fans.

A pal of mine used to stay in White Street off Dumbarton Road for about a year in the early nineties . He drank in the Smiddy occasionally. On two occasions he was in the Smiddy, it was under seige from those quintessentially British chaps with unsurpassed dignity after two games they beat us .

Just about to set off to our game and the sun starts breaking through the clouds. A good start.
