Kairat arrive in Glasgow today after a disruptive trip across the globe. Unlike Celtic when they travel in the opposite direction next week, Kairat cannot keep to their usual body clock routine. It will be midnight in Almaty when tomorrow’s game kicks off – 2am by fulltime. For professional athletes, that’s a challenge.
There are seven Champions League playoff ties this week: five in the champions section, two non-champions. I watched Bodo/Glimt eliminate Lazio from the Europa League quarterfinal in April. Ange Postecoglou (eventually) got the better of them in the semifinal, but I expect them to make the cut against Sturm Graz.
Benfica are likely to progress against Fenerbahce, while I fancy Copenhagen against Basel. Red Star should have enough to overcome Cypriots Pafos. Ferencvaros are not the side they were five years ago, they could fall to Qarabag. As for Brugge? They have traded big this summer, spent €36m and sold €82m of talent. That’s a lot of change to pull together for their trip to Ibrox tonight. The Belgians should still edge it.
With what I am assuming is mischievous ‘paper talk going round, a friend suggested if we are looking for an older striker, it’s a pity Gerd Muller passed away a few years ago. Otherwise, he would have been ideal.

Who are Celtic playing tonight? ”
Made me smile :-)

Those buses must have left Almaty two or three weeks ago…
Correct…….They left before the draw was made and simply headed West. Only found where they were heading last week.☘️🤣
BSR @ 4:39 pm,
Yes, it’s interesting to think that many who saw Brendan Rodgers as some sort of fly by night, are now seeing him as the honest broker.
He’s the one delivering, he’s the one communicating, he’s not going to be the fall guy this time that’s for sure.

C’mon the Ton. Wee Lairdy et al.
Take us to the new level🤔. The ‘board’ can’t even get us to the level we were at last year. I’m sure we’ll dominate tomorrow but 🤞for the goals. Quite ridiculous that we sell our number one striker ages ago and don’t have a new number one.
Burnley78 @ 4:05 pm,
If you look at people like yourself who vehemently defend Peter Lawwell and his Board’s record, who indicate they are posters ITK, they are also the ones with an agenda against the Manager.
Like someone posted the other day this is a concern.
If Brendan Rodgers has achieved what he has with us, and a least some of the Board are plotting against him it says much about how great the set up at Lennoxtown is and how dysfunctional our PLC are.
This feral capitalist approach is athema to the Celtic ethos – there is no place for it at our club

It’s all bout modrin fitba, the players have Bosman and also agents(more light shone on their costs) at this time of year.
I try keep in mind BR talking of raising the standard of buy from last yr engels/idah maybe another 10m+ bhoy to replace them.the bigger the price the bigger the shenanigans go in dealings
Think Jota and ccv were signed last day, same day.

This thing about players waiting for CL qualification is an absolute nonsense.
Our top targets (and their families and agents) are waiting on Aston Villa or Everton or Atalanta or Bayer Leverkeusen etc.
Waiting on these type of guys got us Jota and CCV type players.
The guys from Antwerp and Go Ahead Eagles will be signed if our top targets get a bigger move than Celtic.
I really really hope we don’t sign Vardy for a number of reasons.
Chair boy….we indeed had Larrsson and Sutton years ago but nowadays we just can’t afford these guys….we would struggle to afford Lennon, Thom, DiCanio, Thomson, Sinclair etc in 2025.
Chairbhoy on 19th August 2025 6:03 pm
It should also be equated that currently there are no managerial vacancies in the EPL.
That will change about October/ November time.
We have the best fit manager for Celtic, let’s ensure that we keep that status.
HH.
Just on the jet lag thing … evidence suggests it’s worse flying east.
But that infers one intends to align one’s body clock to local time.
Celtic aren’t – instead holding all our routines to BST.
That includes kick off.
Which is still 17:45 BST … a time we are used to starting games at.
To Paul’s point, Almaty will finish the match at Celtic Park around 2am their local time.
Relatively simple for sedentary types to stay awake longer.
Another cup of coffee usually does the trick.
Different story entirely for athletes.
Up to us to run the legs off them.
PS – will we be tired on our return from Kazakhstan?
Inevitably.
When I was working I travelled long haul a lot. I always found going east worse than going west.
The difference between going to bed early rather than fighting to stay awake.
Vardy
I’m certain Henrik is without a club right now, get him signed up please
kingLUBO
TMcL,
I never said we were playing tonight.
The squad has to be named tonight. No additions means Jamesy will start.
You were saying?.
Hot Smoked,
” Made me smile”.Did it really?.Very low bar in the way of humour for you.
I have one of those Monkeys on a stick.I will send it to you.Should keep you amused for days.
KingLubo….it’s maybe not what you meant but the one and only time Henrik joined our coaching staff for 1 week was the week thst we scored 9 (NINE) against Aberdeen at CP.
I think Stokes n Hooper got 7 between them…It always amazes me that we’ve never asked him back at least a few times every season.
Turkeybhoy…which surgeon performed your humour bypass?
Sorry but I ain’t listening to Prime. I will watch another game.
Evening all.
I did not realise there was an altitude conundrum. Pretty sure Celtics’ previous experience will have factored it in.
Nite y’all

Precisely, there was ‘the jilted lovers’ brigade which has virtually evaporated, in the last two windows and of course two league and cup doubles. ( remember them? )
I’ve probably posted this before but CQN gets attention because it’s an article led single thread Blog. In fairness, I don’t remember Paul67’s mantra to have been particularly pro any Celtic manager but equally, I’ve never known it so opposed to a manager than in the last two years. It’s his Blog and it’s open to public comment the same as most others, supporters just fill their boots, it’s almost as if some come here to post, knowing they’ll disagree with the editorial.
I’m happy with that, it’s not as if Paul67 makes things up about Brendan Rodgers.
Boardroom dissenting is a supporters generic default position, it only lies dormant for us whilst we’re in the latest G.O.D period.
Overloading a bank account with revenue gained largely by supporter input, then potentially threatening to ‘dip out’ completely of the latest ‘difficult market’ is bizarre behaviour, even for Celtic. I think the ‘no publicity oath’ though very understandable, creates a vacuum for the supporters, – it’s Brendan’s presser verse silence, and how does that communicate ambition?
So we wait for two more weeks, and wish Brendan and “ the bhoys working hard behind the scenes “ good luck.
Hail Hail

We go with Jamesy tonight as we won’t pay for a replacement .”
I read that as the game being tonight.
I am genuinely sorry that my comment offended.
I read Tom`s comment as though it was being said by a mate in the pub.
Again, sorry if my comment came over as being offensive.
anyone else think of the Larsson chip goal ? class finish almost up there with Henrik. Center back shirked responsibility and butland hesitated. The should be 3 up.
Look, if this was a new build celtic side – the manager would set realistic expectation with the fans , the celtic fans would get right behind the team to surge them on. These rangers supporters are full of hatred for the team and manager and it’s very very tough to play in that environment. They are desperate
3-0!!! 😂😂😂
