Uefa Champions League financial distribution changes significantly this season from the previous model, in line with changes to the tournament itself. The old TV Pool no longer exists, replaced by a Value Distribution payment, which is majority based on the value of your TV market, with a factor determined by how well you have performed in the previous 10 years compared to other participants.
Celtic’s European performance over the last decade has not been great, but this year’s Champions League has so much fresh blood that we are now guaranteed to be in Pot 3. Aston Villa, Bologna, Girona, Stade Brestois and Stuttgart have replated more familiar names from the Big Five leagues. Our distribution will therefore be higher than it would if Chelsea, Roma and Lyon etc. qualified.
I know you would have been as upset as the TV panel at last night’s result from Hampden, but there are reasons to cheer up. Celtic being Scotland’s only Champions League participant, instead of sharing the Value Distribution pot, is likely to earn us an extra £4m.
Also, do not underestimate the value of our Coefficient Monkeys being in the Europa League, where they consistently earn Scotland a high number of points, compared to their only venture in the Champions League, where they were the group stage’s worst ever entrant. So every cloud….
The night was not so good for everyone in Scottish football. The Kyiv result cost Newco a play-off round bonus and a home gate, which together would earn £5m. That’s a lot of money for a club with dreams of one day returning home. The season is already taking on a familiar look.

Is Brendan in Norwich …?
Will they travel back together …?
I, unlike some, have no hatred of Philippe Clement, or, indeed any of the Ibrox players. They are contracted to do a job and are well paid for it. I get the impression that the manager and players when interviewed are ‘tap-dancing’ and ‘shadow-boxing’ when questioned simply to protect their own position and to try to stay onside with the supporters, simply saying the ‘right’ thing but with no conviction. I also must say that I thought the sending-off last night to be very harsh. I am sure most Celtic supporters would concur if we had been on the end of such a decision.
It is obvious that there is a wedge between the fans and the Govan club and things like being shut out of Ibrox – going to Hampden – and having a manager who is now revealing the stark truth of the financial consequences as they affect the strengthening and rebuilding of the squad, are driving it deeper.
Clement has a slightly worse record of success than his predecessor Beale – 65% as opposed to 72% – the League Cup win is all that is keeping him respectable at the moment. The new contract was in my opinion merely an act of bravado by the Ibrox hierarchy in an effort to con the fans into believing that the decision to appoint him was the right one – they know what they’re doing, – everything is on course, and he is here for the long-haul. I don’t think he is and a few more defeats in the league and Europa League could see him bale-out before the turn of the year. He does not strike me as a captain willing to go down with the ship.
We have our own distinct problems as all football clubs do, however because of the way the club has been run since the turn of the century our financial base is solid and we are masters of our own destiny. The Ibrox club, on the other hand, is the author of its own misfortune and seems incapable of learning from missteps and mistakes.
Let’s hope that we can make our advantage count this season – i.e. win everything in Scotland and give a good account of ourselves in the new format Champions League.
I know I shouldn’t but I so laughed at BBC Scotland coverage last night. I started on Radio Scotland with Billy Dodds and sundry Hun pundits then switched to BBC Scotland channel with Thompson, McGregor and Hutton. The fact that BBC had packed their coverage with ex Hun players worked out brilliantly. They really had expected a Sevco triumph and the actual defeat was even more depressing than I expected.
Now, I am always complaining about packing coverage at BBC with ex Hun players but no more as it was a treat to see the grief and stupidity served in equal measures. No more complaints from me. BBC Scotland Radio and TV can pack the ex EBTS to the rafters as I expect more nights like last night when Sevco let the fans down and the despondent Huns blame everything but themselves for their downfall.
I am not worried that the optimism wont be back as they continually talk up the prospects due to their belief of their superiority. They will be back bumming up the mighty Sevco within a few days.
St Johnstone to win are 12/1 currently. It wont last long
Don’t know if this is accurate, but I read that they only sold 26,000 tickets for last night and the break even figure wa 31,000 tickets sold so they lost money on staging the game.
Anyone got any suggestions as to how one might while away a couple of hours just after 6 pm? :)

I thought I read somewhere that they had 39K at the game – Celtic end only being 20% full as some re-assigned to this end are “bhoycotting” it. Reminds me of the hun I used to work with who would take his own car at his own expense to meetings rather than Car Share as per company cost saving policy as the boss’ VW was green. Hehehe.

Are rangers playing this weekend?
wot no rangers
B78 – Cheers.
Fair point and, genuinely, I considered the costs before posting the fag packet arithmetic earlier.
I’m always slightly suspicious of the premise that it costs huge amounts to financially resource a two-legged European tie.
I know there are costs we just don’t see … but I also think there is an element of the bean counters everywhere wanting uninformed types like us to stop salivating over the gross.
“Hold on, person in the street. It’s complicated !!!”
Spiv accounting below. Shout out anyone if I err.
For the home game?
Police are probably the most expensive element. Wouldn’t surprise me if it cost £60-70 an hour per officer for a six hour shift for 100 police officers … plus 25% on top for meat wagons and Dobbin – c. £50k ?
A hundred stewards doing 5-hours at living wage?
40 to 50 stadium management types plus two dozen of your own staff to wear suits and coordinate stuff
Lots of people selling grub but they’ll pay their way on the night.
As for an away trip to Salzburg?
BA run a lovely wee Embraer 190 to Salzburg in the summer months.
£8,000 an hour for a charter for 8 hours in total there and back comprising prep, flying time and demob?
Hotel : 2 nights for 60 people @ £250 a night plus a couple of coaches (the driving kind)
The whole trip could be done for £100k ?
hahahahaa, this tickled me some,

Hampden is the problem. I know of two folk who have no intention of going to the place. It’s too difficult to get to from their home
Lovely day for a cycle along the river Clyde.
One could stop outside Pacific Quay building and watch the faces of people coming and going.

I know we shouldn’t gloat but…….
Can you imagine if that was us last night , this place would be red hot .
I know we are a bit slow getting players in but would rather that than bring in a load of washed up dross like thems.
They seem to go from one disaster to another, including the ongoing drama with their works to the stand.
Think we need to get real and look at what we have got , it ain’t too bad is it 🏆😎☘️
Good luck this year bhoys ….oh…and ghirls…
Enjoy the moment , Sort of glad we made it up wi Santa bye the way…..might have been a bit difficult come December.. …. Even Santa loves us anawnoo..😄🎅

Funnily enough, I was going to ask – perception aside what evidence is there that Clement is better than Beale?
Both are inferior to GVB in my opinion.

Is Brendan in Norwich …?
Is that the Quiz of the Week?
geebee1978 on 14th August 2024 2:56 pm
Agree with you 100% 🎯🎯 moreover I find the characters of the last two odious tbh
Quad bhoy
😂
That story is typical of them. You never see them wear anything that is green either.
I would bet even the eco minded among them would probably refuse to vote for the Green Party.

Love is a stronger emotion than hate in my book.
My love for Celtic in unmeasurable and far outweighs my hate for the scum. But I do really hate them and all their cronies in Scotland.
Best to you

Adam isn’t the sale of the century …😜
Yes hate is a strange thing, remember saying to one hertz supporter that the problem I have with him, is that he hates celtic more than hibs. That conversation didn’t last too long…..
Back to Basics
The hire of the stadium would be a big cost I reckon.
It looks like Atalanta might still be serious about signing Matt O’Riley and have the funds to up the stakes.!?
Football-Italia
“According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus and Atalanta have already reached an agreement for Teun Koopmeiners’ move to Turin, but La Dea must sign a replacement before giving the green light.
Dutch midfielder Koopmeiners is on the verge of joining Juventus in a €55m deal.
The Atalanta midfielder won’t be involved in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup clash between La Dea and Real Madrid and is pushing to join the Old Lady.
“It’s disappointing for Koopmeiners, who was denied the opportunity to play in this game,” Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia on Tuesday.
“He is the real victim of this situation. I am sad that I was unable to convince him to keep out of certain transfer market issues. He remains a very nice guy, we are very fond of him and he helped us to get here.”
Gazzetta: Juventus and Atalanta have Koopmeiners agreement
According to the latest report of La Gazzetta dello Sport, it’s just a matter of time before the 26-year-old fulfils his dream.
The pink paper, in fact, claims that Juventus and Atalanta have already reached an agreement over a €55m transfer, but the Nerazzurri are currently working to sign a replacement before sending their star midfield to Turin.
Gasperini’s side are close to signing Marco Brescianini from Frosinone, but Celtic’s talent Matt O’Riley has been identified as the ideal replacement for Koop.
Once and if the Danish midfielder moves to Bergamo, Koopmeiners will be allowed to join Juventus.

This video is from a very dear friend, who has massive problems with his health following a severe stroke in his late 40’s. He is an Arsenal fan big time, but after his Dad died in his early 30’s became close to me and he’s a huge Celtic fan as well. Lives in Kent and has a blog called Warren’s Team Talk.

Why are you so good?
Why are we,at this stage of the window” Monitoring” players.Another word” Tracking”.According to reports,BR wants O Shea, and no wonder. While we track the player,Brentford have been knocked back. Now is the time to strike. Will we?.Seems that’s up to Brendan.Force the issue.
Engels, looks like,if MOR goes,he is the replacement.Koopmeiners is off to Juve,MOR seemed keen on Atalanta,so why not get the ball rolling.
Engels might not be around forever.
Of course, maybe its all in hand.D,ya think?.
Good article by James Forrest today,on the disgraceful Shortie coverage on the game last night
In fact,all 3 articles,very good.
So it turns out Butland is an above average journeyman after all, despite the best efforts of SMSM.
On a more serious note though…
Has anyone from Celtic contacted Rangers to thank them for the £5m or so payment we will receive following their exploits last night?
😂😂😂
Afternoon, all.
Can’t help breaking into a smile every time I think of the deid team’s result last night.
Aw Clementaefuq @B.A.D on SC :-))

What would it be worth, financially I mean, to Celtic if they beat a pot 1or pot 2 team? Or to finish 24th or better in the new Champions League set up?
How much would it cost to do that?
I’m surmising this is how the Celtic Board look at European football.
T
TB- careful there, you will be getting called a Bedwetter soon……
Last night’s result was even more satisfying after watching the first leg and noticing how utterly mince Kiev were . I was fully expecting a huns victory and the ensuing tsunami of slabbering hero worship from their media chums.
Instead we get a tsunami of hun tears and the BBC’s hun placemen making absolute sphincters of themselves !
