Change underway at SFA, Irish Voice launch

650

Some of the reaction to Peter Lawwell’s promotion to the top table of the bowling club yesterday was thoroughly entertaining, including some from our own side.  As a rule, I’m happy to germinate nonsense which distracts potential opponents from applying logical analysis to their world, so now THE EVIDENCE is all there!!

The SFA badly need higher calibre board members and, despite some generous assessments (from all sides), Celtic’s influence over the Association has been akin to pushing water up a marble staircase.  The only genuine solutions to Scottish football’s problems will be to the benefit of all clubs, not just the main income generator.  This is the challenge Peter Lawwell should set himself.  By delivering well-funded, competitive football for all, he will best look after the interests of Celtic.  Big changes all round are required.

I was accustomed today by a suggestion that Celtic were about to announce debts of over £30m after investing in some underperforming bonds!  Fortunately the story teller is listening to the wrong people and this is complete fantasy.  At least this nonsense keeps people from reading the accounts and asking by our board blow so much cash on amortisation each year instead of buying players.

Shout out to the newly launched Irish Voice newspaper, issue one of which is now out.  Focussed on “Bringing you all the news from the Irish in Scotland” it’s a really impressive read – and it’s free!  Check it out online here and look out for the paper copy.

Get over what? You’re suggestion is that we build a new stadium for a competition for youths that is happening for the first time this year, and only teams who have qualified for the Champions League gain entry for their youth teams. So, if Celtic do not qualify in future, we would be paying for a new 6000-seater stadium in the East End of Glasgow that will be unused? That’s your suggestion for a “growth agenda”?

And Peter Lawell is an idiot for not doing this?

OK. I guess I’m over it.

“Think the whole point here is that her reply is falling into the same pit of paranoia that FF are currently sinking in.

I’d rather stay out of it.”

You may think whatever you wish as to what the main point is. However, you were given full context of the twitter conversation and two reasons as to why it could not be the innocent explanation you were so quick to promote.

You ignore all that and the questions put to you re the source of your info and then call Jeanette Findlay, and by inference, me, paranoid, without advancing any support evidence or rationale yourself.

And now you want out?? Without a withdrawal or apology??

I will assume that someone at the SNP wanted this nipped in the bud and cobbled together a specious explanation which you ferried on here. The Offensive Behaviour Bill came about because of similar knee jerk thinking.

    How’s that for paranoid?

Blin and Mini have no shares, have invested nothing in the club and yet we can consider appointing them directors!

Is there nobody at Ibrox with a backbone. Spineless b******* if the current board roll over and allow this to happen.

The club have an U17 team, an U19 team, they have an U20/21/Reserve team.

We play these games at a variety of locations across Central Scotland.

Why — because the small crowds that do turn up look lost in CP.

With our youth programme there is little engagement with the players.

That is outside family and friends and “favourite son” connections.

I know one player in our U17/19 set up because of where he comes from / who his father is.

My thoughts are this all has to change.

Consequently a growth agenda would try and give the whole youth set up a higher profile.

A dedicated stadium would be part of this and also support the Ladies team.

This would allow more people a chance to access the games.

It would provide a platform for the youth teams to perform in their own stage.

The lower ticket prices — adults @ £10 / accompanied children free? — would help.

There is a disconnect between the youth teams and the first team.

We need to make the most of the opportunities available.

And close the gap — bigging up the EUFA Youth League should be the start.

How many of the U19 team can you name?

Don’t ask me as I would struggle.

We are not making the most of what we have got.

OK. Now that you have explained what you mean I get your point. I agree that we should maximise every opportunity. I’m not sure we can afford to run a stadium the size of New Douglas Park to accommodate youth and ladies teams and break ever. But I understand where you’re coming from. I could maybe name a couple of the under 19s. But even if there were a stadium there, I would not be able to attend U17, U19 and ladies games as well as the first team. I can’t afford it and don’t have the time. I imagine many who follow the first team are in similar circumstances to me, so that implies (to me) that we’d have to attract a new audience to those youth/ladies games. Which may be possible but seems a big ask. I agree on the disconnect between the youth and first teams – you can see that from the few players who make it through.

  20. Kids football, it’s quality here, going to see an under 19s game the morra, locals against another village, round about div 3588, and I can say with my hand on my heart, they would destroy most of what scotland has to offer given fair referees, and I include all of scotland.

The cream will always rise to the top, sadly, the quality here are wasted.
